Reasonably priced natural fiber clothing
Duluth Trading Co has been pretty good for me. You need to watch the material content a bit if you are looking for only natural fibers. But they’ve had some good hemp/cotton blends lately and 100 cotton. Their denim is reasonably durable. They have a decent plus size selection, and their sizes usually run large. I wear a size smaller there than most stores, which means there are more options in the low plus sized end than most. 18 fit more like 20-22.

The 21st Century Ruined Everything 😭
We recently had to switch from lands end to Duluth Trading co for jeans. Lands end made heavy duty mens jeans and this year on first wear my husband crouched down to tend a fire and they ripped groin to thigh. They were also NOT TIGHT. It was definitely unexpected. He refuses wranglers because we are genX and he is of the opinion that Wranglers are too… umm.. redneck? He always wanted Levis. I put a stop to that tho as well because Levis are now complete shit, also ripping fabric while new.

They are absolutely not buy it for life. The material is thin and they will wear out. A bit faster if you're a big guy like me with thighs that rub. If you want something that cradles your balls that will last longer go Duluth. They are probably still not really BIFL but they are significantly more sturdy and will last longer.

My husband loves my Duluth Dang Soft boyshort underwear- I wouldn’t say they’re sexy, but he definitely would! They are the ones that look like booty shorts or hot pants. They are definitely sexier than grannypants with similar coverage! They are extremely comfortable and come in fun prints. I love their bras as well – I have large breasts, but can still wear their sports bras and feel supported while being comfortable. I really don’t think I could wear anything else – they are soft, they don’t creep up, they breathe well and the band doesn’t pinch! They also lasted an exceptionally long time.

What is the warmest down coat for under $500?
As a jacket hound, owner of way too many jackets, there are 2 ways to go about this. A very heavy duty super warm jacket like you are referring to (like the north face McMurdo parka, Duluth trading Ruffer Puffer, and of course others in higher price ranges). These are very good options for very cold days - if you live in the north, they are smart to own (even to keep in your car for those bad situations of getting stranded). The warmest single layer jackets are heavy compared to high performance gear which is geared towards higher activity and need for flexibility (skiing, snowboarding, climbing, cross country skiing). Whereas the super heavy/warm single jackets are great for a football game in December in Greenbay or Chicago, standing on the ice ice fishing for hours, being at an outdoor Christmas market for hours in the cold and windy, of if you walk a mile or more to work in a cold windy city like Chicago on a frigid day). The weakness of the single layer extra warm jacket is that on many days it is too warm for the jacket. Like running errands when you are in a heated car or indoors for much of the time. That said, I have 4 ultra warm jackets - 2 Canada Goose Parkas, 1 - 800 fill Mountain Hardwear jacket 20 years old and should be replaced), 1 - Arc'teryx Rush down jacket (wearing today in the teens). I spend a LOT of time outdoors, even when it's very cold (-20 to 10 degrees out). In these Temps, these parkas cannot be replaced by layering for a combined total cost of $1,000. That said, for more active cold weather activities, the layering approach is the way to go. Then I like the following - mountain hardware Monkey Man fleece (get the square inner pattern fleece vs. a solid/smoother inner layer fleece), Patagonia for a mid weight down layer OR Arc'teryx for a synthetic down layer, and then a hard shell layer that has some sort of soft inner layer for added warmth vs. just a straight hard shell (that is really just a more rugged rain jacket). Then you also can look at soft shells vs. the hard shell as the outer layer on nice non precipitation days (even though manybsoftshells have a DWR sprayed on finish, they are not generally waterproof.

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
I mean I don't like the fit or aesthetics, but quality wise I've had great luck with old Navy and Duluth trading company, oh and Carhartt is good quality too (again not a fan of the aesthetics and they don't sell stuff with curvy fits though). Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!
Over the past 10 or so years I have slowly replaced my socks with Darn Tough. I haven't had a single pair wear through so I've never used the warranty. With that said, I'm rotating through about 15 pairs at this point. I also have some merino wool blends socks from Costco that have worked pretty well. I did the same thing with underwear. About around 2008 I started buying Ex Officio boxer briefs. When their quality went downhill I switched to Duluth Trading Company Buck Naked underwear. I also have a few pairs of merino wool underwear mixed in. I also switched my undershirts to predominantly sweat wicking synthetic or merino wool blends. At this point, I've basically eliminated cotton as underclothing. Not that I had anything against it at first, but I definitely notice the difference when I wore a pair of cotton socks a while back for the last time, and when I wear some leftover Hanes cotton tees as undershirts. I haven't worn cotton boxer briefs for years at this point. And that's more than anyone cared to know about my underclothing choices.

Where Does "Buy It for Life" Not Make Sense?
Whoa! I've had cotton undies for 20 years! And many other undies for over 10. I wonder what the scoop is. I don't buy anything particularly special... I'm still hunting for the best value/quality. Currently buying duluth when on sale, and wearlively, and pact. But undies I bought at the GAP lasted 20 years. I don't use harsh detergents in the washer and I hang dry like half of the time. Maybe that's why? (I use Dr bronners sal suds for laundry, before that I used to use arm and hammer no fragrance etcetc) And never ever ever use fabric softener

It’s not a parka but it keeps me very warm because of the layers I wear. I’m in Minnesota and it also does a fantastic job of keeping any moisture (rain or melting snow) from seeping into it because it’s truly waterproof. It also has the best hood because it’s snug/contoured enough that there’s zero chance of wind blowing it off. Recently I wore it to roll around in the snow to work on my car and any dirt it picked up easily brushed off. It’s back to looking pristine. Tldr: it’s a great jacket that’s wind and water proof. For a $150 it’s super durable too. Highly recommended to help you survive harsh Minnesota winters lol.

I got two pair at goodwill for $15 and am now a fan of the flex fire. They’re super comfortable. I won’t pay full price for them because I can’t justify an $80 tag for one pair of pants that aren’t made in USA, etc…but if I catch them at thrift, will buy again. Also their clearance sales don’t seem to have the same wow factor to me. Perhaps it’s my timing, or size needs, but I rarely buy from their online store now and used to often.

Totally different experience for me. I use them for brush pants though & not trade-labor. They are great for me & I think I’ve had them for 4ish years.

They are so damn comfortable. But they don't last, I get around 8-10 months before they get a hole. And for 80 dollar at full price pants that just isn't worth it. So I only buy them when they do the 46 dollar sale. It's nice tho cause I can get them in the 42x28 size I need...not many places have my short legs from the factory.

Thanks! Yeah I was just perusing the milsurp clothing, picked them up and read the Duluth label and was like “no way these will be my size”, lo and behold they were. I’m a 32/32 which seems to be a very common size so it’s pretty rare I find good quality clothing in good condition in my size.

Normally I’m not either but I tried them on right when I got home and they were super comfortable. I’m usually more of a “slim fit pants” kinda guy as it fits my build better than flex fit or loose fit stuff but these were a better fit than I expected.

Duluth Trading Co especially for the heirloom overalls. I lost some weight last year so mine were baggy, got 3 new pairs in a small and they fit perfectly.
