Second for Duralex glasses. great looking, and the pack with the 3 sizes has you nicely covered for all your needs, including as wine glasses and cocktails for informal gatherings. I give the set to younger family members as they get their first apartments.

Are Newly Made Duralex Picardie Glasses Still BIFL and Safe?
Who was the seller on Amazon? I've purchased directly from Duralex and the glasses I purchased were packaged properly. I did have some issues purchasing on Amazon, mine was a third party seller but Amazon hippie. I ordered le gigogne glasses from Duralex and love them!

Are Newly Made Duralex Picardie Glasses Still BIFL and Safe?
I know this is an old post, for what it's worth, I just ordered a set from Amazon. They were shipped with one this sheet of bubble wrap and no dividers in the box or any additional cushion. It's not Duralex's fault that Amazon packed them so poorly, but I was kind of amazed that for so little protection, 5 out of 6 glasses were still in perfect condition. Only one was chipped and unusable. Amazon just refunded the whole thing and thankfully did not want me to ship the glass back to them.

I love them, the company went bankrupt a few years ago so the employees bought it back, so they don't have any shareholders to pay, and the quality is still VERY high and produced in France, we are very proud of it haha

100%. It's just a PSA. Reddit will be Reddit. Duralex is a great product and is inexpensive for what it is. Any glassware should be checked before putting into service. It's better than having hot coffee in your lap.

I have the large tumblers and the cortado glasses for my morning espresso. They are superior glasses, but (to quote Jerry Rig) glass is glass, and glass scratches. Whenever I need new ones I’d be replacing them with the same brand.

Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?
Okay, but that’s French PYREX. Many French glassware companies are borosilicate including my Duralex. I’m more talking about people going to their nearest store and buying Pyrex, not taking a European vacation or importing foreign made products.

Looking for wedding registry ideas.
Go for quality pieces over sets for sure. No knife set, no cookware set. Here’s my recommendations so far. - Duralex Picardie glasses (timeless, still in production, super durable. - Corelle plates and bowls (they make strange designs, but they also have simple white rounded and squarish plates) Le Cruset maybe if you prefer the style. My grandma handed some down, so they last. -Oneida flatware if there’s a style you like from them. I think they have a lifetime warranty and my parents’ has still lasted my whole life, although I have had a couple table knives rust from the dishwasher. (Haven’t tested their warranty) - All Clad stainless 12in skillet D3 (I got the D5 because of a sale and I liked the brush metal). - All clad or Demeyere 3qt-3.5 range saucepan…something with a lip for easy pouring - Demeyere 10in saucier? (I got this massively on sale and it’s super heavy, but it kinda bridges the gap if I need a smaller skillet like surface, or a larger saucepan surface. The rounded edges make it perfect for, well…sauces lol. - Le Cruset Dutch oven (although, the saucier has a lid and can go in the oven…even fits a sourdough loaf!) - Asahi professional line cutting board. Natural color is cheaper than black. Maybe not quite for life, but it’s the closest thing besides an end grain cutting board which is much more maintenance. They’re beefy. They’re rubber with some wood in it, so avoiding the microplastics and the bacteria growth of other boards. You can fairly easily sand off a micro coating of it and haha a completely new surface as needed. - Get a quality chef knife (or Santoku or something if you prefer), paring knife, and serrated knife, and learn how to sharpen the former 2. (I’m currently learning on the Sharpal double sided sharpener…maybe practice on a cheap knife before your nice BIFL ones though lol.) - Nordicware sheet pans, bread pans, cake pans if you’re into baking. - Pyrex 3 piece measuring cup set (sorry I broke my rule about sets lol) - Kitchenaid stand mixer (if you’re into baking) - Hario V60 Pour Over Coffee Starter Set (the one with the plastic pour over piece) if you’re into coffee Might have other recommendations for rice cooker, coffee stuff, and cooking utensils, but it’s probably not as BIFL. Hope this helps! I know people love cast iron and carbon steel. Go for it if you like, but I really do prefer a stainless steel pan myself.

Stainless Steel Cups
I know you've said stainless steel but the heat conductive quality of steel makes them a bit of a pain unless they're double walled like Yeti. When you go double walled they end up very bulky for the amount of liquid in them. Have you considered something like Duralex? I haven't had one break in the 12+ years I've owned them.

Stainless Steel Cups
fwiw, I've got a kleen kanteen steel pint and I find it utilitarian, but not fun to drink from. If warm out, it condenses on the side really quickly, hand and mouthfeel isn't great. It works, and I'll bring it outside but standing in the kitchen having a drink I strongly prefer our random Duralex glass tumblers.

Are they really unbreakable?
I have been using the same set of Duralex Picardie glasses since 1992. In all that time I think I've broken two of them. No glass is totally unbreakable, but these are much sturdier than regular glass. And they are easy to replace -- Williams Sonoma used to sell them individually, but not sure they do anymore. Don't buy them from Amazon!

Are they really unbreakable?
When I was a kid in middle school we had the small rounded duralex glasses. We would play a game with it: throw the glass to the vinyl floor, it bounces back up and we had to catch it in the air. I don't remember we broke any glass. That should tell you how strong they are.

Go for stainless steel if you need unbreakable. Duralex is awesome for durable glasses though - I have a set for my kids, god knows that they’ve done to them, and so far none broken.

Are they really unbreakable?
In France, school cafeterias use Duralex glasses (smaller ones though) because 1. kids deserve nice glasses instead of plastic tumblers for babies and 2. Duralex ones are pretty durable, being used in most schools and many restaurants since I think the 50s? Sure, they'll shatter eventually after being dropped many times but won't crack randomly. When a kid breaks a glass in a French school cafeteria, the tradition is everyone bangs the metal water pitchers with their cutlery. It's rare enough that it's worth some fun lunch disruption!

I’ve got a cup right now that has a slightly chipped rim. It’s very subtle looking, not sharp, but you can definitely feel it with your mouth. I keep meaning to ditch it, but then I’d only have 5 cups of that size. I love Duralex. High recommendation.

They are breakable, but will take a lot of abuse compared to others, in France we have the lil duralex glasses (smaller than in the image) for preschoolers' meals, and they let them drop on the tile and they don't break.

Some people (my housemate among them) refuse to drink from anything but glass. Said housemate also has an extremely destructive cat who apparently considers it his mission to destroy anything fragile. I'll keep Duralex in mind next time I shop for glassware.

Are they really unbreakable?
We use Corelle plates and Duralex bowls & tumblers in multiple sizes. We've dropped the tumblers on a tile kitchen floor without issue multiple times. The only ones (twice!) we've broken were when someone smacked the lip of the granite countertop [right above the dishwasher] with the side of the glass either putting it in or taking it out of the dishwasher. They're fun to clean up when they shatter, for people who enjoy type 2 fun....

I haven't seen those marketed as unbreakable, just stronger than most. If you drop it from standing height onto a cement floor, I wouldn't expect it to survive. If you want to ensure they are original, I would recommend buying from duralex: https://www.duralexusa.com/collections/unie-tumblers/products/duralex-unie-tumbler-set-of-6?variant=7290165264443
