Couch Blanket recommends?
All members of my extended family love the Eddie Bauer oversized down throw. Basically everyone has eventually gotten one. Not pricey and have lasted 10 years through multiple kids/teens/YA. Easy care.

Help me find the perfect women's warm long johns
My wife is an absolute expert on this topic and owns several. She suggests that you start with the lined products sold by Shein. Not branded. The absolute ultimate are all-silk, sold by R.E.I. and other outfitters. My set from Eddie Bauer kept me warm throughout winter in Europe.

Best winter parka money can buy?
A sweater isn’t “layering”. I walk my dog for an hour everyday regardless of the weather. It’s been ~-25c with windchills down to -35c for the last couple weeks. I wear a merino base layer set, so a long sleeve shirt and long John’s. Then I put on a long sleeved tshirt and jeans. Then I wrap my scarf around my neck before adding an insulated hooded sweatshirt. Then comes my wool hat. I put up my sweatshirt hood and the put on my heavy duty Eddie Bower parka. Then come my large mitts and Baffin boots. I put up the fake fur lined hood as I excite the house. I am toasty warm for most of the walk. My legs would like me to also add some wind proof pants, and I do when we hit -40 with windchill.

Little luxuries or upgrades that you made this year that makes your everyday better?
Percale cotton sheets! Sateen sheets are too hot and made me all sweaty at night. Eddie Bauer and Laura Ashley brands have held up pretty good.

Land's End is so not BIFL
Really depends what you buy. At least for Eddie Bauer their first ascent has some good shit and some jackets for LL Bean, sweaters, and the bean boots are still very nice.

What was the best purchase you made this year?
Not a purchase per se, but putting my money in a HYSA and a CD. But if that doesn't count, bought luggage at a cheap price at a charity store and a 30 gallon packable backpack from Eddie Bauer.

I respect the non-shill tbh. I am not the OP but I really like my Massif longjohns (pants and shirts too) and have had the same 3 Eddie bauer thermal henley shirts for oh probably 14-15 years

I Recently Ordered 40 Items From EddieBauer.Com ...Here's What I Learned.
This is an ancient post at this point, but I personally love their legend wash shirts. 100% cotton, usually marked diwn to a great price, and their tall shirts fit me perfectly, unlike most other brands. If i bought 40 items there it would probably come out closer to 400 or maybe 1000 if i decided to go buy stuff i don't really need in the first place. I wouldn't spend that kind of money there though, so I'm not exactly sure what to tell you. If you want to spend 5000 somewhere Patagonia or anorth Face would be the wiser choice I think.

Wool coat for the Northeast
I like Eddie Bauer. I don't know if they have wool, but I have one of their parkas rated to -55F and I wear it when it drops below 20F. Very cosy even in extreme wind. Make sure you're getting good wool socks and waterproof boots with good grip as well.

Wool coat for the Northeast
Wool won't cut it during frigid days in Vermont or in Boston. So best to get a long down coat. Look into Eddie Bauer Superior Down Stadium Coat. It's on sale for $199 right now. You can wear it over plain Tshirt even in 0F temperature and not feel cold. https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/10112636/men's-superior-down-waterproof-hooded-stadium-coat?sp=1&color=Black But if you insist on getting a wool coat, look at Schott NYC. They have a couple heavy weight 32oz wool long overcoats. But that would cost you ~650-700$. https://www.schottnyc.com/products/mens-wool-knee-length-pea-coat.htm?catID=9

Looking for a winter coat
Canadian checking in here - I'm from rural Ontario and hubby grew up in Winnipeg. Both of our go-tos have long been Columbia. They have various warmth configurations, but I am partial to any of their "omni-heat" line. My current jacket is from that line and I have never had a lighter, thinner or warmer jacket. Outside of their brand, a lot of people in our circle rely on Eddie Bauer or North Face. Stay away from Canada Goose. There are better down jackets made by more ethical companies that will stand up just as well at a reasonable price point.

Canada goose is a great investment! Or any goose down filled coat! Eddy Bauer is a cheaper alternative but they are the original makers of down filled jackets. I've tried Moncler in person but I don't like the quality. My friend has Mackage and it looks great and is only filled with down feathers.

Looking for a BIFL Winter Jacket (Men's)
Probably more formal than you're looking for, but I bought the Eddie Bauer Mainstay for standing on the train platform when commuting to Boston. Handles wind/rain/snow well and roomy enough for layering. I bought mine pre-pandemic, so it didn't get as much mileage over the years as expected, but still serves me well. Not sure if quality has slipped since then, as it always seems to do.

Eddie bauer, had some for years, no holes or anything, I have probably about 25 pairs. They have seen saltwater, running, and a very active lifestyle, only reason I have ever gotten rid if any is because I got bought the wrong size!

I have used this Under Armor backpack almost every day for 16 years and other than looking a little dingy and faded, it is still as sturdy and reliable as when I first got it. Not a single stitch out of place.
I had an Eddie Bauer backpack that was 30+ years old when I finally gave it up. The elasticized pockets on the side were no longer elastic but other than that, a few scuffs and the DWR wearing away, it was in fantastic shape. I had “splurged” on it when I was a teen, $80 for a backpack seemed outrageous to me at the time but I loved the design/colour. It was my highschool backpack and moved with me to university for daily class use. After graduation, my mom used it when she returned to university for a certificate program and then gave it back after her 2 years were done. It became my gym bag, hiking daypack and weekend trip bag (used 4-5 times per week). It got thrown into lockers, kicked under train/airline seats, scraped against rock faces, used as s seat cushion while on trails and tossed into the clothes washer regularly to remove grime. The padding in the straps had finally started to disintegrate so I passed it on to someone else and looked for a replacement. You can imagine my disappointment when I discovered what passes as “quality” now. I hate what capitalism has done to manufacturing. 😭

Canada Goose worth owning? If you live in cold climates?
99% of the people that buy Canada Goose do not live in a climate that need it. Vancouver is a hot spot for them and they barely get snow. That isn't even including the fact that it's not even real down anymore and owned by private equity. Just go to Eddie Bauer or Columbia

Looking for a good quality winter coat
Former NYC resident. The big thing here is that NYC winter isn’t bad but if you are new to it it might take a couple years to adjust and figure out what you want. So just get a Columbia 3-in-1 you like or an Eddie Bauer First Ascent Puffer. Either on sale is even better. Make sure it’s long enough to cover most if not all your butt. I’ve had several of each of these (in different sizes) and they work great. The latter won’t be waterproof, but snow isn’t that wet most of the time and a soft shell, raincoat or umbrella works fine. If you want to spend more, REI (RIP Houston store) or Outdoor Research will have something.

I disagree. I have been buying the same sweater for over a decade, and it’s still great. Men's rain jacket that's actually waterproof
I’ve had both an Outdoor Research and Eddie Bauer down jacket with Goretex and both have totally waterproof over years of multi day hiking/climbing/kayaking trips and daily use. I actually thrifted thr EB because the down was matted and it was torn, but was easy to revive it! IMHO it is *crucial* to wash separately with a non-scented/no softener detergent (Atsko sport wash or Nikwax). Regular detergent additives clog the pores. Washing separately with the right detergent renews the water repellant, but I give each a spray once a year with Atsko from walmart. Dry your down jackets with a few tennis balls to fluff them

what winter coat are yall using?
I bought an Eddie Bauer down parka when I first got into backpacking three summers ago. Since then I've used it in the fall, winter and spring as my daily coat as well as on any camping trip with possible temps below 60°. I carried it and wore it often while hiking nearly 1000 miles of the Appalachian Trail this spring, and used it as a pillow at night. If someone had told me the amount of use I'd get out of this jacket when I had bought it I would've gotten another in a different color. It's super lightweight and can get shoved in a small bag or backpack no problem. And it's super warm. For reference I also live in Upstate NY and walk outside quite a bit even in the bitter cold.

what winter coat are yall using?
Currently using a puffer coat from Eddie Bauer but really all you need is a windproof, waterproof (or water resistant) shell with a hood and then insulation underneath. I used to wear a gore-tex shell and then different fleeces or sweaters underneath. So look around for a shell you're reasonably happy with that is large enough to wear stuff under, and then wear whatever heat-trapping insulation layer you prefer. My husband wears a thick leather coat with hood all winter. You might need something that can withstand wetter conditions but yeah, technically you can wear any sort of jacket you like as long as it has the windproof/water resistant qualities and you can stuff insulation under it.

My Eddie Bauer stadium down parka is crazy warm. I wear a Schott Navy peacoat as well as a different wool coat but neither is as warm as the EB.

An Eddie Bauer parka for me. The one I got goes down to about my knees (I’m 5’8”). Down filled. Very good on those cold days and nights. From one of their outlet stores. It has a removable hood, and the hood has removable faux fur trim. I kept the hood but the trim stays in our closet. I got it a few years ago, I think it was in the fall of 2020.

Have a long down coat from Eddie Bauer for when it’s super cold and a couple of Patagonia jackets that are good for different temps. And a carhartt for when I’m working outside in cold temps.

I have an Eddie Bauer down parka that I really like. It's great, but somehow the thread stitching one cuff got frayed when it was still pretty new. I don't know how but I must have done something, the other cuff and rest of the coat is fine.

Duluth trading company. Eddie Bauer. Northface. You want one that covers your butt with a hood. You need good mittens. (Recommend isotoner or carhart) you need a hat. And you have to cover your neck (scarf) and make sure your feet are warm (sorel boots)

Which is the best outdoor brand - Marmot, The North Face, Patagonia, L.L. Bean, Kuhl, Eddie Bauer, or arc'teryx?
Read about all of Eddie Bauer’s patents and inventions. I’ve had nothing but amazing luck with my EB shells, pants, ski gear, hiking, and dog walking in the rain gear. Love their fleece-lined jeans, their goose down anything, and their cozy camp collection for pure comfie. I also like that they’re fit and style is classic, with some seasonal nod to adding a trending color scheme. I also love racking up enough adventure points to get free shopping and some incredible deals.

What is your most unintentional BIFL item?
Most of my daily wears I didn’t know would just keep going. I have an Eddie Bauer spring jacket, some pairs of shoes, my backpack from college, long sleeve promotional athletic shirts from annual races my job supported that I never ran. All going on 15 years old, with signs of wear but no signs of wearing out. I do bring my shoes to the cobbler every so often. A breville electric kettle that just keeps going. All my daily use pots, pans, corelle plates. The pencil sharpeners I installed in my house on every level. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve managed to buy good things that with a little bit of care, have survived.

What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?
I bought this light Eddie Bauer puffer jacket for $70 nearly 14 years ago. The logo has long since stripped off but the jacket itself is still in great condition. It's my go to jacket for hiking or other similar outdoor activities. Light enough that it packs small and I can stuff it in a bag but still insulted enough that it keeps me cozy in the cold

What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?
Same thing with Eddie Bauer; weird fabrics and inconsistent sizing with their standard lines, but the first ascent line goes pretty hard. I think I have 4+ pairs each of their guide pro pants and shorts. Have a couple of jackets as well, that I love. Incredible value on that whole line if you can get it on sale.

Winter coats rain proof
I’m from Mi and did a stint in Minnesota for a minute (regularly -20f weather lol). Either a North Face parka (they have a very good warranty policy), an Eddie Bauer, or a Fjallraven if you have the money. Usually the company sites rate them by warmth as well. Also would recommend getting my one that goes to just above the knees.

What womens swimsuits are BIFLT (buy it for a long time)
I have 4 suits I’ve had for from 5-15 years easily. Swim in treated water. Rinse in cold water after every swim and do not machine wash or dry. Dark colors. Not faded or pilled or thinning. Two speedo’s(i do replace these about every 5 years because they are thin). Of the others one is from Eddie Bauer, knock off miracle suit, in the 00’s, and the other is a Calvin Klein bought at a department store. Speedo’s I buy on clearance at the end of season, otherwise by choice and or occasion and did not cost me over $100 in 00’s or 2010 money. Calvin Klein has always made great swimsuits at reasonable prices.

I really like my Eddie Bauer Trace boots. I get them when they're on sale, which is often, for about $150 CAD. I have them in two colours. They're comfortable and durable, a little warm and water resistant. IDK if they're BIFL but Ive had my pairs for 3-4 years and they're still going strong. https://www.eddiebauer.ca/p/92006179?size=&sizeType=&color=Espresso

Any good pants/ trousers/ jeans you know, that don't ripped off easily.
Are you also sure they fit right? If they're slim, cut, and fitted, they will wear out a lot faster. That said, I have had Eddie Bauer guide pro hiking pants for years and they have never blown out anyplace. Also, if you get denim that is 100% cotton and not some stretch blend, it will be much stronger.

BIFL, but also BISecondhand. What are some things that everyone should keep an eye out for, but can commonly be found for cheap when preowned.
Shit, I buy most big ticket stuff used, I'll do a quick list of the things that comes to mind: **Electronics:** * Laptop - refurb Dell Precision * Desktop - used HP Z2 G4 plus RX 5700XT * Terra master NAS and surplus HGST hard drives * Xbox controllers * Camera - Canon 5D MkII + Tamron 28-75mm f2 * Watch - Pebble Time **Household stuff:** * Kenmore laundry center * Frigidaire dehumidifier * Panasonic microwave * Swing-a-way can openers * Cuisinart food processors * KitchenAid mixers * pots and pans * bakeware * Clothes, mostly Eddie Bauer, Chacos, LL bean **Tools:** * Toro lawnmower (from the side of the road) * Used spare parts for lawnmower * Bosch jigsaw * DeWalt router * Milwaukee weedeater * Pole saw attachment * Sawzall * Impact wrench * JBC soldering station * HP oscilloscope * Tektronix power supplies * Kikusui DC loads * REED LCR meter * surplus RF cables and connectors Most of these didn't require any fixing beyond some light cleaning, and in most cases I would say that I got a good deal. Even paying the upper end of market value for the used market, you still get a much nicer product than what the same money would buy new, and you get to help keep more unnecessary stuff from being produced Its a bit intimidating to start buying expensive stuff online, but once you get a feel for how sellers in a particular niche tend to advertise and document things, you can get a very good idea of how the things will function.

That's literally every single main stream brand. Even newer Patagonia and Arc'teryx are the same way, but still expensive as shit. At least Eddie Bauer can easily be had for 60% off .. Not to mention the First Ascent line is a better bang for the buck.

What Are The Differences Between a Cheaper And More Expensive Fleece Jacket?
Zipper, pockets, grade of materials to a degree. There’s a budget level where the material and cost above it are not worth the extra price. Eddie Bauer and Columbia, for me, are that lower threshold. I don’t find much value going higher, usually. I don’t see the point of North Face and other boutique branded items.

My Dad had lots.of Eddie Bauer shirts in tall and some are from a long time ago, like easily 10-15 years. Same with sweaters. I've actually taken some and have been wearing them and they are still in great shape. I've gotten lots of old navy (in tall) ones and I find as long as I don't dry them in the dryer then they don't shrink and no pill.

In need of warm winter coat with a budget of $350-400
Everyone recommending specific jackets but not one person has mentioned fill powers. Understand what you’re looking at to buy the right thing. You’re looking for a high fill power which in laymen’s terms just means warmth per ounce. Find 650 or higher. Try to avoid lots of stitching as those compact the down and are areas of little to no insulation. If you’re looking for warmth, puffy is the way to find it, not a sleek fit. My Eddie Bauer 650 fill is ballin after 5 years and cost $200. You don’t need an expensive jacket, you need the right jacket.

I need Work Pants, None Last
Eddie Bauer Capacitor flex work pants are (were) amazing. I’ve been working construction 20 years and fell in love with these pants. I’ve been through lots of carhartts and other brands. Wearing a pair now. But for the last year I haven’t been able to find anything close to my size. 32/34 or 36. Bought a pair of Brunt’s awhile back. I really like those too but I cut the logos off before they left the house.

What clothing brands are your BIFL?
Eddie Bauer. They make some good clothes but more importantly is the replacement of worn clothes. I had a coat that was 4 years old that was falling apart and they replaced it with full value.( I bought the coat like 1/2 off) So I made money off the coat turned around and bought a much more expensive coat that was also on sale.(Basically paid $120 for $400+ coat)Had this cost for 3 years no issues. Big thing with Eddie Bauer for me is they have TALL SIZES which is a must for my tall skinny ass lol even carry some in store which is rare

Luggage for a poor college student.
Given your requirements, best bet at that price point might be a used Eddie Bauer or similar well made large wheeled duffel bag. I routinely pack 50lb or more in mine for long trips, paid $40 at EB surplus outlet IIRC. Also found a classic mid sized CalPak non-wheeled duffel on ebay for $10 that's better built than EB. Have seen similar decent luggage in thrift stores, yard sales, pawn shops & flea mkt but timing is everything for used items like this.
