Washer/Dryer which do I choose?
From my latest round of research I was finding Electrolux and LG to be more promising options. Samsung is a no go for me because I had to sue them after my dryer caught on fire internally due to design defects.

Do modern Miele, Bosch, and Huebsch/Speed Queen washing machines live up to their BIFL reputation? Or should I just get an LG instead?
Speed Queen is known for build quality and reliability washer/dryers. They make commercial units as well as laundromat machines. Their front loaders are top notch. But they are so expensive. Best warranty from my understanding. Second is Electrolux. I have two sets of the 600 series and they are solid. But I like that parts are relatively cheap and they are easy to work on.

I know there is no such thing as a BIFL appliance, but what are your thoughts on this washer? Please no speed queen recommendations, they are too expensive and don't hold enough.
Personally, I would avoid LG, and lean towards Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, Speed Queen, Kenmore, Frigidaire, Electrolux, and more. I know a few of those fall under the same parent companies, but they all specialize in appliances. If you want a Speed Queen but can't afford one now, maybe look at marketplace, nextdoor, etc for a local used one cheap and then save for a bit until you can afford the Speed Queen. I've seen washer dryer sets sell for $40 online and they'll usually run for a year or two at least and you could use that time to save and find a deal on what you actually want and something you know will last.

I need a new washing machine
I am eight years in on my second set of Electrolux from loaders. My previous set lasted almost twenty. My household is only two people, my water is softened, and I have a whole house surge protector/power filter. I got the model with the fewest bells and whistles. My last washer failed because the spider corroded, so I have started being diligent about running a cleaning cycle monthly as well as leaving the door slightly open so that the interior has a chance to dry. You might want to base your choice on how the first one broke down. Another consideration would be local service shops. Good luck.

Washing machine, I know it gets asked about a lot but…
Have you looked into water proof fitted sheet for the bed, as well as draw sheets, with plastic liner. I use this combo along with the higher absorbing tab briefs (Prefit or Fitright are great) I have some disposable pads for my father as well. Please double check/change him every couple hours. Just before I go to bed, I make sure to put my dad into the more absorbent depends at that time. I also reduce his fluid intake a couple hours before bed. All that being said, my family got eco lux washer/dryer. There is a sanitary setting and 15minute wash/dry settings as well. It's been great as I have to wash my dad's items and the rest of the family. Six people altogether.

Second the Electrolux! Switched to an Electrolux set last year and it has been solid ever since. The cycles are fast, gets everything clean, and I like that it feels much sturdier without being ridiculously expensive.

How are ventless dryers?
Heads up. You will get 2 very different opinions because some people’s experience is with the new heat pump condenser dryers and some people’s experience is with old style resistive heat condenser dryers. The old dryers were expensive to run and did not dry well. The new heat pump dryers are way more efficient. Dry well. Do it pretty damn fast. That said the new style is harder to clean out built up of fuzz (a task that was simple in the OG condensers) and because they are new, there remains some concern about longevity (not talking 2-5 years. Talking 15-20 years longevity) Keep in mind that the heat pump dryers are mostly an European product so look for Miele or Electrolux. Miele will last longer but is pricier. Source: former American living in Europe now. Currently staring at my AEG (an Electrolux brand) washer/dryer stack.

[UK] Washing machine - not going MIELE so Bosch or who else?
I'm in the UK and do casual appliance repairs. I have an LG, they still use split drums and parts availability is generally really good. Our last one died (at 10 years) because the spider broke and sadly my wife didn't mention the unusual sound until it was too late - it had a pretty hard life with us, 18 months of almost daily nappy washes etc. The only thing I can really complain about with LG is the continued use of spring washers for the counterweights - easy to fix when they loosen, but daft in this day and age to be using such an unsuitable fixing. Generally I recommend Bosch/Siemens and Electrolux/AEG/Zanussi (appreciate your experience has been negative) as they have become really good with spares recently. I've done control board replacements for reasonable money with factory replacement parts in the past few years - no special account or messing around needed

I’ve had this vac for 4+ years and it’s been wonderful for cleaning up after our dogs every few days. It’s even cheaper now than when I bought it https://a.co/d/3hkIyHx It comes with a wall mountable charging station that we fit into a cabinet and I love the convenience. Surprisingly, the company even sells it by part (last I checked) so if the motor blows out or the canister cracks I can replace them.

My nearly 40 year old tumble dryer still going strong
In the apartment i was in before I moved here, I had a "brand new" washer dryer. It took about 5 hours to dry most things, about 6 for towels. It was supposedly energy efficient but I'd argue it was probably worse than my new old one with how long they have to run comparatively so I'm happy with it haha

When it comes to fridges that last, there is one general rule: It must be white and boring. Simple no frills. And be from a reputable maker with a long heritage in the USA or Europe. Don't buy Korean or Chinese.

Also +1 for Electrolux. I have the 600 series front loader washer and dryer and they work fine. Really like the extended refresh feature which lets me start a load before I go to bed and then move it to the dryer or hang dry in the morning. The company is still owned by Swedes and the machines are made in the USA, both factors are important to me. I can afford Speed Queen but I am not convinced any consumer electronic is BIFL so I didn’t feel the need to spend extra. I doubt the Electrolux set will give me more than 10 years and I expect I’ll have to replace circuit boards, belts, and so on occasionally.

Do you mean the control board was easy to buy a new one and replace? I just bought an Electrolux washer/dryer and have been enjoying them so far. The main draw to that brand for me was the fact that both the dryer *and* washer doors could be reversed, which is not a common feature I came to find in my research, and where my appliance goes in my house this really helps with functionality.

I’m team Electrolux as well. My front loader is a model that had a known problem with the control board and it bricked itself after a couple of years, but it was cheap and easy to buy a new one and replace it. I’ll take something designed to be easily repaired any day over something you can’t get parts for.

I have heard nothing but good about Miele and Asko. But I couldn’t bring myself to pay for replacing my Electrolux with either. Since my old Electrolux lasted around fifteen years, I went with that. I am five years in with no problems. Perform regular maintenance (mostly running a monthly cleaning cycle and rinsing the soap drawer) and close the door only when washing clothes (prevents mold and mildew growth). I also have a whole house surge protector (helps reduce the chances of damage to circuit boards).
