  Yeah I have a freaking Emerson plasma TV from 2010 that is still working amazingly very little burn in and the picture is still super deep cause plasma rules.

  What's a purchase under $50 that has genuinely improved your daily routine?

  There are 2 electronic devices that I genuinely think will still be kicking when im on my deathbed that I own and they both were bought this year while thrifting but are way older than me that I often use one of them is the emerson 77648 fan a model of fan that was first manufactured in 1937 I bought mine thrifting for 10 dollars and I had to replace the power cord the grease and the oil in it but I sleep with it blowing in my face every night my 2nd one that I recently purchased is a sunbeam radiant control toaster mine is a 1950s model but they were manufactured long before that other than having to adjust the tension of the tray with a screw on the bottom of it it worked when I got it I'll likely replace its power cable aswell I paid 6 dollars for it at a goodwill just a few weeks ago I gotta say with this toaster no only does it eliminate the jump scares of modern toasters but it also toasts bread much faster than normal toasters pretty sure that's down to power draw

  What’s one thing you bought once and it’s still going strong years later?

  Bought this [Gerber 500 knife](https://i.imgur.com/bYcjaDk.jpeg) in the early 90s. I think I paid $16 for it. There have been some periods where I've carried other knives on a daily basis, but I keep coming back to this one. It's super light, and before they kicked up the sensitivity after 9/11, I used to be able to take it on planes without setting off the metal detectors. I also have an Emerson CQC-7 from the late 90s. I carried that every day for awhile, and it was fantastic, but I don't wear jeans ever day anymore and it's a bit heavy to have in my shorts pocket all the time.

  What's the oldest appliance you own?

  1916 ILG ventilator fan. 1926 Maytag wringer washer I saved from the crusher 9 years ago, almost 100 years old. Still on the original everything except the belt, drain hose (petrified), and motor cord (rewired). A few 1940's and 1950's Emerson fans used during the summer months. 1975 Maytag washer and dryer for the daily stuff, saved from the crusher 17 years ago. 1977 Hobart Kitchenaid dishwasher, saved from the crusher 16 years ago. 197? Hobart Kitchenaid mixer.

  FM alarm clock with low light and

  Ive had an Emerson CKS1507 SmartSet USB Alarm Clock for YEARS. Im not completely certain if it has a gradual alarm. Ill mess with it when I get home. I do know that the numbers have 3 brightness levels. The dim setting is very low. It plugs into the wall. I do know that every time I plug it in it sets itself, date and time, which I LOVE.

  great now you gotta carry a hex key around... the emerson i can take apart with a dime or a thing piece of rock you can make by smashing two rocks together and using the shards.

  and if you passed those knives down they wouldn't get past to the next generation, they will break in some way shape or form. plus if you have small hands those smaller knives work well but if you have a larger hand . or maybe you have to wear work gloves then the larger overbuilt style of the emerson really shines. put the emerson on a scale and the other knives. the emerson is most likely a lot heavier and longer. plus the wave feature makes the emerson the fastest folder knife out of your pocket opening

  I had a cqc7 Rockwell tested and it came out as 72rc. Breaking down a few boxes should dull the edge to the point it struggles to cut paracord. I understand edge geometry and metallurgy pretty well. I work with machinists EDIT: ROCKWELL WAS 72 NOT 82

  I've got a CQC-7 from 1999. All things considered, it's been a good knife. Hell, I'd get another. Sharpens easy, decent steel. If I ever lose it, I might get another. But comments here about quality control....Hmm, doesn't sit well. Currently carrying a Leatherman Skeletool.

  Going to have to agree with Pig0r I had a 2000 commander,f or the money i was disappointed the chisel grind is a joke, like buying a half finished knife. they try to sell it as being superior, but its definately not. if you want a rough and tough knife, i grab a strider if you want to try the wave feature out, get a kershaw/emerson collaboration--> made in china, but better fit and finish than my real mcCoy emerson.

  I have a CQC-15 and the things is a beast. I'm not a knife guru but know enough about the steel used in Emerson's to know that they are designed to easily sharpen in the field. That said, I love my CQC-15 and am really glad I purchased it.
