  Epicurean - maybe not BIFL but will last a loooong while. Not heavy like a wood block but made from wood fiber and can even be put in the dishwasher. Bless up!

  Maybe not completely BIFL, but I really love my epicurean cutting board! It’s similar to a wooden one but lightweight like a plastic one. I’ve had mine for several years and it’s still going strong.

  Cutting Board Recommendations

  So I currently have 5 types. Plastic (oxo) Engrained (teakhaus) Rubber (asahi) Plastic (hasagawa) Epicurian For context .. we have multiple coins in the kitchen with multiple cutting styles and I have a bunch of high end Japanese knives that I want to protect. We use each of the cutting board for different reasons. We also layer light board on top of heavy boards to optimize cleaning needs. If you want bifl then just a chonky end grain... Take care of it. You will get everything you need. I recently switched from a small one that fits in the sink to wash to a large one that I wash like a countertop. Game changer if you are willing to adjust your workflow. If you want something as simple as your plastic cutting board but want to avoid micro plastics then look at some lightweight epicurian or even something recently I saw called Dunnboard(have not seen but heard good things)

  Been using an Epicurean cutting board for a couple years now and I honestly love it. Easy on knives, easy to clean, fairly light weight, and mine comes with rubber grips at the corners so it doesnt slide around

  I just switched to epicurean which are made out of recycled paper. They can go through the dishwasher and I really like them so far. I had plastic and wood cutting boards before and now the plastic ones are gone

  No brand marks, unfortunately - any advice on what to get as a replacement?

  I have two of the epicureans, but the easy cleans have the same mechanical action. Should be just as good, but without solid stainless handles.

  Henckels Kitchen Knives. I finally replaced my chef's knife and was very surprised in the difference.

  People get really hung up on "the only BIFL cutting board is hardwood butcher block" but my Epicurean "Kitchen Series" set has about 10 years of everyday use and is scuffed up but otherwise looks like new, and I could stack six of them in the space of the chonky maple cutting board underneath them that never gets used.

  it sure is nice to be able to throw them in the dishwasher though! Epicurean is a good option for a non-plastic dishwasher-safe cutting board. to be honest though, we're all full of plastic at this point. maybe one day, someone will invent a dialysis-style machine that can filter them out 😅

  What BIFL items would you add to your wedding registry?

  Epicurean cutting boards. I used to have to replace them every year or so, until about 10 years ago when I bought mine. They will never fail.

  Epicurean. I worked at a steakhouse and BBQ and was the head cook for dinner. We only used epicurean and they are lightweight, durable, and just all around awesome to use and store. I now have a few at home I use all the time.

  Non plastic cutting boards for meat?

  You can get an Epicurean board. It's a composite material. They are dishwasher safe and good quality. I know you said non-plastic, but this is the one I use for meat.   What to buy for upkeep of house as a 22M?

  For learning to cook, hello fresh has helped a lot. The meals are healthier than fast food, and only slightly more expensive than grocery shopping, but someone else does the menu planning and portioning for you. It's saved me hundreds of dollars on takeout. Get one or two good stainless steel pans, one or two pots/saucepans, a good chef's knife, and a cutting board (I went epicurean). You can find measuring cups, spoons, rubber spatulas, etc for cheap, and they'll last long enough. Get an electric kettle for any time you need to boil water. Flush with diluted white vinegar to get rid of mineral build up, and ideally use a Brita or refrigerator with a built in water filter to prevent that. If you drink coffee, I miss the Cuisinart coffee maker with the SS front that I used to have. I think it was like $40. You can also get a single serve. Either way, you'll save more than you spent in the first month making your own coffee at home, the markup is ridiculous. A decent clothes iron shouldn't be too expensive, but the cheap ironing boards wear out. Depending on how often you wear button downs and slacks, it may be worth it to invest in something higher end. There's a vacuum cleaner subreddit that gives better advice than I can. All I'll say is: there are some vacuums out there that are a waste of money, and some at every price point that are actually worth it. I'm personally not a fan of Swiffer. Get really any broom and dustpan that feels solid, and also a hand broom. Get a mop with replaceable machine washable heads, and even a cheap plastic bucket is better than being stuck using sinks. Get a water bottle brush, a pots and pans scrubber, and a scrub daddy. I personally don't like sponges, but that's up to you. Also stainless steel wool is useful when stuff sticks to your cookware. Never use steel wool on nonstick. Fabric softener doesn't actually soften fabric, it just coats it. Up to you if you want to use that. You can get dryer balls if you don't like the feeling dryer sheets leave on your clothes. If you sweat it have a hard time with smells in your clothes, you can add washing soda (dissolve in the hottest water you can) to your detergent, and hex or some other sanitizer instead of fabric softener. The sanitizer isn't super necessary, but I do use it for workout clothes sometimes. Get mesh garment bags for when you need to wash something delicate in the same load as blue jeans. Get a hamper or laundry bag. You spend a third of your life in bed. There's no "best bed", it varies person to person, but investing in a good night's sleep is worth it. I got high thread count sheets from Costco and they were worth every penny.

  Cutting boards keep falling apart

  My epicurean boards are ten years old and go in the dishwasher always. They are slightly discoloured but still dead flat and the surface is perfect.

  I've had my epicurean boards for over 15 years and they're still in great shape. I mostly hand wash them but they'll go through the dishwasher when I'm lazy or they're especially dirty
