  Agreed on all fronts. I almost immediately replaced the stock EarPods with an aftermarket one based on a recommendation by one of the reviews I watched, cooling breathable and have held up amazingly. I have to lift up/down the mic probably a dozen of times a day and I always worry about it but after multiple years it's still not given up. The mic, like you said is probably one of the best I've ever used and probably beats even most sub-$100 standalone mics, I've gotten no complaints at all and it's even better when paired with a dedicated ADC/sound card. Same with the audio. Beats other "gaming" headsets many times it's price, beaten only by the top audiophile grade standalone headphones(typically sennheiser ironically enough), but my ears are not really "perfect" enough to notice. Again, paired with a nice DAC/sound card it is golden. Positionality is also pinpoint, I'm sure the VZR Model one(MK1/2) are better on paper but like I said it came with so many downsides it was not worth it for me. I'm still awaiting any other company to come out and beat it for an all in one package in a similar price range but I've yet to find anything better. Even specs wise(RTINGS doesnt have this model specifically but I tend to compare against the GSP600 and the PC38X which are both similar epos offerings on their site) nothing seems to really beat it, or if they do best one aspect it comes with major trade offs. Sadly EPOS has given up the gaming division, so at one point or another we may eventually have to find a suitable replacement but until then I'll probably stick with it.

  The correct answer is don't get a gaming headset. Get a good set of headphone and a decent microphone separately and they'll last you ages and be higher quality for (possibly) less money. MY answer is get the Drop PC38X. It was made as a gaming headset but made with Sennheiser so it's not junk. - The sound quality is great. - The mic quality is the best I've ever had. (which isn't saying a whole lot) - The build quality feels good for the price. - Very simple. Not a whole lot going on. Not a lot of fancy features. Kept it simple so it's just good and works. I was going to go the headphones and microphone route but I started to go down the research rabbit hole and decided to abort before I got too deep. So this was the most cost effective, easy, quick option I found.

  I've had my Epos (Sennheiser) H6Pro for years (at least 6) and still love it. They closed the Epos gaming division in 2023 but you can still get them on Amazon for $150.

  I'm really fond of my EPOS H6 Pro open backs. Wired 3.5mm so it has low latency. It is by far the best sounding 'gaming' headset I have owned. EPOS are a spin off from Sennheiser.

  Headphones for sensitive friend

  What you want is a headset, not headphones, headphones don't typically have mics. What your friend needs is an open backed headset, open back means they don't even physically block out sound, you can typically have both cups on and still hear your surroundings. I recommend the PC38X from Sennheiser.
