  French Press for life?

  I swear by my Espro P7. That thing will outlive my great-grandchidlren. Sure it was a bit of an investment but I can't imagine it ever giving up. It is way over engineered for what it is, and I like that. I also get the joy of coffee staying warm because it is insulated. Nice little bonus.

  French Press for life?

  The glass beaker is always the weak link. One cold morning, one too‑hot pour, or one tap on the sink and it shatters. Brand barely matters if it's still a glass tube waiting to die. If you want something that actually lasts, get stainless steel. Double wall, 18/8 or 18/10. The thinner stuff dents if you look at it wrong, and once the base warps you start getting sludge and uneven plunging. The filter stack matters too. Cheap mesh stretches out and starts letting half the grounds slip through. A solid metal center post with a proper screw‑in plunger holds up a lot longer than the snap‑together plastic joints most brands use. Espro's stainless models and Secura's double wall presses usually hit the right mix of durability. Nothing fancy, they just don’t fall apart. And don't fall for the “borosilicate glass, now unbreakable” marketing. Still cracks the first time you pour hot water into a cold vessel.

  Best coffee maker? Is there anything new in 2025?

  The [Espro P7 French Press](https://espro.com/collections/french-press/products/coffee-french-press-p7) is the best coffee brewing product I’ve used. I particularly like how it isn’t glass (won’t break) and doesn’t reply on consumable filters. The double-nested filter design means it’s the cleanest french press coffee I’ve made at home. Combine that with any cheaper grinder and you’re set.

  What's a purchase under $50 that has genuinely improved your daily routine?

  I love my Espro french press. Now I make delicious coffee, hot or cold-brewed, standard or concentrate. It's perfect for my daily single 24 oz cup, or making up to 32 oz. Easy to clean, and the dual filters are great for keeping out all grit. Under $50

  Recommendations for coffee machine - single serve?

  Espro P5 French Press. Dual micro-filters, so no paper filter needed, no grit. Also superb for making cold brew. Just dump coffee/water and put in the fridge. The Espro is its own decanter/pitcher even. Cold brew has about 70% less acidity, and has more caffeine. I'm also saving $300\~ per year on coffee doing this over using instant like I was before.

  Best device to make a pot of coffee?

  It is a little more work, and there is cleaning involved, but the quality of coffee (and control in every way) from a French press, as well as the simplicity of the device, really make this the ideal way to go. Bodum is great, and have been using one for three decades, but Espro is the perfection of the thing. Better filtering to remove fine high-acid and “octane” sludge, and the coffee is suspended above the grounds to prevent oversteeping. Give yourself five more minutes in the making, and the coffee will be five more minutes better…
