  So I was a pouch or die guy for a long time but I tried exofficio give n go 2.0 sport and they’re awesome even without a true pouch/dividers. They’re both thinner and more breathable but have shown no wear over the years like saxx do.

  I wore Saxx for a few years, but actually in hot weather, the pouch material chafed my inner thighs and balls. I switched to Ex-Officio sport Give n go 2.0 (no pouch) and they are great.   I LOVE Evry underwear for comfort but I don't feel sexy in them. Anyone know some sexier equivalents?

  Another Saxx Quest bro here. I bought my first set in 2015, and must have bought near 18 total pairs between then and 2019. Still have all but 2 of them - those had the top of the elastic start fraying. I didn't know they got bought out and changed their fabrics, guess when these finally go I'll have to  take a look at Manmade and ExOfficio, 'cause I made the mistake of trying B3neath and they were horribly uncomfortable for me.

  Somehow no one has mentioned ex oficio boxer briefs. They're expensive ($30) but they're the only thing I've ever been genuinely happy with. Maybe some of the other things in here come close, I haven't tried, but ex oficio is just all around amazing. On my oldest pairs the waistband elastic is getting wrinkly, but it still works just fine. I think maybe 7-8 years will be the life span of these bad boys, maybe longer.

  HIGHLY recommend Exoficcio and Duluth. I’ve had some exoficcio pairs for over 8 years, through lots of travel in third world countries, mind you, and they haven’t frayed one bit. I’ve also had Duluth pairs for 5 years or so which have also lasted just as well, but the Exoficcio pairs are more comfortable

  I like ExOfficio, I had some where the elastic gave out. As other have said here, heat is a killer. I don’t air dry them but I do low temp in the dryer and they have held up well for close to a decade so far.

  I rotated the same 14 pairs of ExOfficio boxer briefs for a decade, including over six years of deployment through Iraq and Afghanistan. When I quit deploying in 2012, I purchased 14 new pairs and I’m still wearing them. They still look and feel great.

  I have to spend $150 at amazon this week

  \- **Bag:** Timbuk2 Classic Messenger bag. I've had mine for 6 years used as a full-time commute/computer bag, occasional range bag, then as a diaper bag for a few years, then as my fishing bag most recently. The only issue I've had is a broken buckle but that was my fault closing it in a car door. **- Multi-tool:** Leatherman multi-tools: My dad had the same one 20+ years before he died. I've been using a Free p4 model for 4ish years with no issues through a lot of both hard use and daily use type tasks, and very little care (re-tightened screws twice and apply a little oil occasionally). **- Knife:** Essee Izula 2, affordable, great lifetime warranty, small enough to EDC and for delicate tasks, tough enough to baton wood, the blade shape and size make it very versatile. Does require basic care (dry and oil) and you may not like the sheath that comes with it. **- Wool blend Socks:** My smart wools have lasted me like 5 years, my wigwams are my most comfortable, my darn toughs are also great. **- Good underwear:** My ExOfficios have lasted seemingly forever. I've been married 9 years today and I'm pretty sure a few of the sadder pairs in my dresser are almost that old. Saxx are incredibly comfy but don't last. **- Light Jacket:** I've had a Patagonia Jacket since 2009 that is one of my more used jackets, patagonia repaired the main zipper two years ago for free/cheap. Jack Wolfskin wind shirt/jacket, also had since 2009 and it's been pretty brutally treated through Military stuff, backpacking, a short stint doing heavy pipefitting, and a lot of hunting/fishing. I've literally just partially retired it in the last few weeks for a Helikon-Tex Woodsman Anorak, I'll still keep the wolfskin for a farm work layer until it completely dies. **- Wallet:** I've had a Rogue Industries front pocket wallet as my only wallet since 2015, the only reason I need to replace it after 10 years is because I got the nylon one instead of the leather, pretty sure the leather would last at least 15-20 years. **- Water bottles/thermos:** Classic Nalgene bottles are very rugged and last forever. Classic Stanley thermos, it will take a house fire to kill it. My insulated Kleen Kanteen has also taken tremendous abuse and clumsiness.

  About 7 years ago I went down the BIFL boxer brief rabbit hole. By virtue of getting a little trigger happy I managed to order 5x pairs of ExOfficio and 5x pairs of Duluth Trading Post. They've all been worn the same amount, and washed the same way, very side by each comparison. I've now thrown out two pairs of the DTP boxer briefs, one for holes in the seams, and the other for a waistband that lost all elasticity. The ExOfficio's are still going strong, no issues to report. We have a winner.

  Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!

  Over the past 10 or so years I have slowly replaced my socks with Darn Tough. I haven't had a single pair wear through so I've never used the warranty. With that said, I'm rotating through about 15 pairs at this point. I also have some merino wool blends socks from Costco that have worked pretty well. I did the same thing with underwear. About around 2008 I started buying Ex Officio boxer briefs. When their quality went downhill I switched to Duluth Trading Company Buck Naked underwear. I also have a few pairs of merino wool underwear mixed in. I also switched my undershirts to predominantly sweat wicking synthetic or merino wool blends. At this point, I've basically eliminated cotton as underclothing. Not that I had anything against it at first, but I definitely notice the difference when I wore a pair of cotton socks a while back for the last time, and when I wear some leftover Hanes cotton tees as undershirts. I haven't worn cotton boxer briefs for years at this point. And that's more than anyone cared to know about my underclothing choices.

  The Sad Decline of ExOfficio, a Once-great Travel Clothing Brand

  I have like 10 Exoficcios Ranging from 8-3 years old. They are all in service. The worst of them are simply just very worn down with some pilling. I have 3-4 Lulu Lemon underwear ranging 5-3 years old, they feel very comfortable at first but I find they breathe slightly less as well and every single pair has holes in them somewhere. Overall, I still strongly think exoficio is better.

  Current answer: REST Evercool Cooling Comforter. As a hot sleeper this has been my favorite purchase in the last 10 years. I take it on trips with me. Past answer: the old Ex-Officio Boxer Briefs. The new ones are OK but the old ones were made so much better. I had pairs that lasted a decade or more, and even then only the elastic in the waistband went out.

  +1 to this. Newer Exofficio are garbage. I have 3 pair from 2017-18ish that are still in rotation. Got like 4 pair last year and then turned them into rags within 3 months; the trunks would get so loose during the day that I might as well have been wearing boxers.

  Are they though? I’ve been wearing Exofficio since 2010. I think you’re right about the quality but I still buy the boxer brief 2.0s over anything else. I heard people say Duluth buck naked were great comps and I found them to be absolute garbage. Only Exofficio for me.

  I have the Buck Naked ones as they're the closest to old ExOfficio. They now have a Buck Naked boxer brief with medium, long and short legs. I will probably get the short legs ones in the future but I have the medium leg ones (that was all they had when I got them) and they're fine. For Winter you should just buy long underwear imo. If it's cold enough for underwear warmth to be an issue you should be in long underwear anyway. I have a few pairs of polypro long underwear that sit in my closet just in case, but for like 300 days of the year I want my underwear to contribute zero warmth if possible. Between all the layers built into pants there and jackets overlapping that area &c it needs no help.

  Exofficio. I like the sport 6 inch best. I can't find anything better or that lasts longer. They do smell like my old under armor ones did. Ride a motorcycle everyday and work outside. After around 5 years I just see a small amount of pilling in the seat area

  ExOfficio Give n Go 2.0. I just made a post in another familiar thread last week. Everytime I buy new ones they make improvements on fit/quality and the ones I bought 5+ years ago show no signs of giving out anytime soon (I air dry). Used to work in kitchens and I'd come home drenched. These leave me almost entirely dry and never have chafing issues. I have no need to even look for any other brands at this point. 0 interest.

  Disagree. They are very comfortable and fit well but the second skin deteriorated in less than a year and the only exercise I did was walking my dog. The sport are better but ex officio have been going strong for about 7 years now and are much cheaper

  My favorite are the merino wool ones from Smartwool. Icebreaker makes some good ones too, but I don't find them to be as comfortable as Smartwool's. Be careful when buying to get the merino boxer briefs, because they now have a line that's mostly polyester. I think they call them "everyday" or something. I also like ExOfficio. I've been using them for many years. I know that it's often said they don't make them like they used to, and while that is true, they're still pretty good quality. I don't find the give-and-go 2.0 boxer briefs to be very comfortable and prefer the original style. However, for regular boxers, the 2.0 ones are very nice.

  Where Does "Buy It for Life" Not Make Sense?

  Kids stuff -- toys, clothing, etc. They outgrow things SO fast, it's almost always better buying used for a steep discount or get hand-me-downs. Plus it helps cement the idea of reduce/reuse/recycle, delayed gratification for the "hot" new thing, learning how to do without (obviously don't let the kid go without essential clothes, duh -- this is more for toys). College furniture -- these things get ABUSED by ~~people~~ assholes who genuinely don't care. This is why Ikea exists. First set of tools -- (if you're not in the trades or an experienced maker), like for a general set of home repair tools. Get a generic set of something modest. Harbor Freight, Husky, Crapsman. Buy used even. But most importantly, don't spend too much. And when something wears out or fails, buy a better replacement. Most people will never wear out basic tools since most people don't do shit. You fall into that group of most people. Cookware -- see above for tools. But avoid non-stick, that shit is terrible at nearly any price point. There's a happy medium of decent quality at a cheap price, and stuff RAPIDLY goes up in price from there. A used Cuisinart stainless steel skillet is JUST AS GOOD for a home cook as a brand new All-Clad. Consumer electronics (laptops, mobile phones) -- yeah, this shit loses value year over year. And pretty much anything you have is trash-tier after 5-7 years, IF it survives that long. Sometimes it's bad after even 2-3 years (hello mobile phones). Get only the minimum you need. I tend to keep the last functional piece I owned as a "spare", since so much of this shit is unrepairable anymore. ---- (socks? I never lost one -- then again, I buy Darn Tough Socks and Exofficio underwear. That shit is *expensive*, but soooo worth it. Stuff that touches you all the time should be the best and most comfortable you can reasonably afford. I make the effort to keep track of them.)

  All clothing will last much longer if you line dry it. I've got plain cotton underwear from VS that's 20+ years old (obviously their products now are intensely shit, I would never buy from them again). But I do like having some quick dry travel underwear in the mix. If you don't mind synthetic, I like exofficio. At low humidity, they line dry in an afternoon and have held up nicely for 6 years
