Best king size goose down duvet for a cold sleeper I can buy right now for under $501? Preference is for small, non-corporate companies like Feathered Friends or Supreme Quilts?
If you want real warmth, start with fill power... once you get past about 750 in goose down, it keeps decent loft instead of collapsing too quickly. Make sure it's pure goose down. Anything marketed as a blend usually means feathers mixed in, and feathers poke through and ruin the insualtion. Shell fabric should be tightly woven cotton percale, just tight enough that the down stays put. Get baffle box construction because sewn through stitching creates cold seams you will feel in the middle of the night and it gets annoying fast. Fill weight matters more for cold sleepers than whatever the marketing copy claims and in a king, something around 40 ounces or more is usually warm enough for a lot of people even if your room runs cool Feathered Friends Bavarian Winter is a solid choice from a small maker who puts proper care into the build. If you need something cheaper, Brooklinen's down duvet is one of the few big brand options that does the job without fuss.

High quality down comforter
I just got a LL Bean baffle stitch goose down comforter warm, full size. (I got it for $230 because I applied for an LL bean credit card to get free returns and 25% off.) I only just pulled it out of the box last night. Wirecutter recommends it as being " next to [the Feathered Friends comforter](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-comforter/#the-most-luxurious-down-comforter-weve-tried-feathered-friends-bavarian-700-down-comforter-medium), this is the best one we’ve ever tried." But it is very stiff. I'm not sure I'll keep it. I think Feathered Friends is the best, but they were just so hot for me.

Something to keep me warm at night In my tent.
A good down sleeping bag, especially from a company like Feathered Friends or Western Mountaineering will last forever. Real heirloom quality. As has likely been mentioned before, clothing is not the answer for warmth when sleeping. A warm bag is key. Equally important is what is under you. If you can’t or don’t want to invest in an insulated sleeping pad (***None of which are Buy it for Life***). You could use multiple layers of blankets or closed cell pads. If you use an air mattress it will actively pull heat away from you. If you want to avoid an inflatable insulated pad just go for a fat pile of warm blankets. Think like your images of Arabian nights style piles of comfortable stuff. At least 6-10 inches thick. The closer to the ground you are, the colder you’ll be.

Something to keep me warm at night In my tent.
If you don’t want to do a sleeping bag, [there are some pretty high quality down duvets outs there that will be extremely comfy](https://featheredfriends.com/en-ca/products/feathered-friends-bavarian-700-down-comforter?variant=20693967634486&avad=184698_d2d06ec35)

High quality down comforter
Feathered Friends is great. You’ll also get good mileage out of a mid-weight down from Cuddledown or Pacific Coast if you want something that stays lofty for years. If temp differences are the issue, the Mellow Sleep temp-control comforter is also nice because each side feels slightly different. It’s not down but the dual-layer temp control helped a lot in my house.

What are your thoughts on Feathered Friends comforters?
Sorry just seeing this. Bavarian 700 Down Comforter Cal King / Light. We live in San Diego so pretty moderate. Guess we haven't had it for a true entire winter yet but we go it in January and it was definitely warm and cozy in those few cold months. We kept it on all summer, though it's definitely borderline too warm for that. Overall it's really warm and still has a lot of bounce to it. Part of me almost wishes I went bigger/thicker just to have that plush luxury hotel weight and warmth, though it definitely would be overkill for our climate.

Has anyone bought the feathered friends Summer weight duvet/comforter 850
I can't speak to summer weight but my Feather Friends down comforter is about as fine of an item as I will ever own. I'm a bit of a cheapskate but it kept calling to me so I bite the big bullet and haven't regretted it for a second.

Looking for a puffy jacket like 1996 Retro Nuptse from TNF
[Feathered Friends](https://featheredfriends.com/collections/down-apparel?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAm-67BhBlEiwAEVftNlo6phjXdN79x4vk6fzakHGBsae-4VRcSl1XqmzLYwKhqeeKsF-ZYxoCLNcQAvD_BwE) down products are exceptional. Very high quality. I don’t think anyone uses better down. I’ve had an Eos jacket for 10 years that seems basically new.
