Carhartt J140 not made in the USA anymore
Ok but Made in Mexico is about the same as made in canada or the usa though. Volkswagens and Toyotas are made in mexico. Its a cut above made in Indonesia. You ever buy a a made in mexico fender guitar? Its essentially the same guitar, all they do is add cheaper electronics and dont roll the fretboard to nerf it (easy fixes). So made in mexico is actually really good quality nowadays especially with certain goods like clothes and shoes. Thursday boots are pretty damned good boots for 200 dollars, theyre made in mexico. Saddleback leather bags are all made in mexico.

What's the oldest thing you still use daily that works like new?
My 1973 Fender Jazz bass. Other than changing the strings once a year or so and wiping it down. It is older than I am and it just works.

What modern manufacturers still make long lasting BIFL-worthy items?
While it is true that enshittification is a thing, brands rise and fall, sale to equity can cause a deterioration in quality as short term people squeeze the value of out of a brand built over decades, etc, it's also a *very easy thing* to say on reddit and get people to updoot that x brand is not as good as it was back in the day, especially if there's some sort of private equity whatever. as an example, I have a pair of ray ban wayfarers from 2010 that finally got janky enough to where I retired them to the glovebox and bought another pair, last year. They are the same glasses. People say that Allen Edmonds has fallen off, Brooks Brothers has fallen off, etc, and maybe they have, but I don't necessarily take it as face value here. Anyways, first thing off the top of my head - I was sitting in my kid's room playing my 1998 Fender stratocaster this morning while they crawled all over me and I tried to keep them from touching the string ends. I have lots of guitars, lots of Fenders - the American made ones I have are still as excellent as they've always been (my '98 is an American Standard and has been sturdy under heavy abuse during my years as a touring musician) and the Mexican and Asian made ones are generally much better than the ones from the 90s early 2000s.

What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?
I didn't say that. I never said best in the world you added that. It's the best entry level stuff, meaning I believe a cheap yamaha pacifica is better than a squier. I own tons of high end guitars, PRS, Gibson, Fender, Suhr and some local customs too, and own absolutely 0 yamahas, but my kid has one, and it's awesome. I've played tons of other Yamahas even the new high end ones. Go play a cheap pacifica and tell me it isn't better than the comparably prices squier, then play the pro level pacifica and tell me it isn't as good at a suhr classic S.
