Hose that last outdoor
Eley hoses are very stiff. I'd recommend trying it first if possible. I like the reel and fittings, but not the hose. I bought my first Eley reel with the hose, but not the second. None of my Eley reels now has Eley hoses installed. I prefer Flexzilla hoses, or even Craftsman black rubber hose. Mine have all lasted over 10 years now.

Hose that last outdoor
This lasts because it's designed for heavy use. But it has some weight to it. I got rid of mine recently and traded for a Flexzilla for this reason. The weight prevented me from using it as much as I wanted to and certain tasks got neglected because of it.

Hose that last outdoor
I’ve also had the same flexzilla 100ft hose for like 8 years. It lives outside year-round, on the east side of the house, on an Eley reel. You NEED to drain your hose and disconnect from the spigot before the first freeze, if you live where it gets cold. Water expands and breaks joints and pipes and hoses if you don’t.

Hose that last outdoor
All hoses will kink. Inhale this. Some kink less than others. Eley is the king with king pricing. Continental, Goodyear or other commercial hoses are the queen with queen pricing. Flexzilla is the jack with jack pricing. The above is the BIFL hivemind cliff notes. I have multiple Flexzillas with Eley sprayers. You need to ensure that in cold winters, you winterize them. Drain the hose....remove the sprayers to store indoors. Even though mine were drained good, both my Eley sprayers burst due to internal moisture freezing. They warrantied one (with a very nice "we'll replace but you're an idiot email) and I bought a replacement as it was my own damn fault.

Garden hose … flexzilla?
Every hose kinks. Flexzilla is the most recommended cost leader BIFL hose. Eley is the Rolls-Royce of hoses doe.

Garden hose … flexzilla?
Bridgestone heavy duty garden hoses are very good. But, they are very expensive and 100 ft hose is quite a beast to lug around. For the price, it's tough to beat the flexzilla.

Garden hose … flexzilla?
I wasted a lot of time researching it this summer. I came to the conclusion: Best: Eley, but way too expensive Great: Continental, lasts longest but kinda stiff Flexzilla, good price point, very flexible and long lasting In general I found I wasted more time overthinking it then just buying the flexzilla and knowing that even if it just lasts 5 years it was only $75

Garden hose … flexzilla?
Flexzilla is a good brand. They do kink, but it is hard to find a hose that doesn't. Their plastic quick connect system isn't as great imo. Plastic connectors and the rings fail over the winter, but ymmv.

Best Garden Hose I’ve Ever Used
The Eley reels are undoubtly well-made and durable, but overbuilt IMO. It doesn't make sense for a hose reel to have a frame thicker than motorcycles. I also found the portable reels to be quite short. My first Eley reel was bought with the hose. The fittings on the hose are very nice, but the hose itself is so stiff that it doesn't like to stay coiled on the reel. If you like your hose to be neatly coiled, this can be an issue. I eventually replaced the hose with a 100ft Flexzilla, which is much more flexible. I have the Craftsman rubber hose installed on another Eley reel. It also works great, but can leave some black marks on your hands and shoes. Both my Flexzilla and Craftsman hoses have lasted me over 10 years now. I'm also not a huge fan of the Eley quick disconnect system. It requires regular lubrication to keep it from seizing. It's also impossible to disconnect under pressure, making the "quick" disconnect not so quick. To disconnect, you'd have to turn off the water at the source, release the pressure by turning on the nozzle at the end of the hose, connect/disconnect, turn off the nozzle, and then turn the water back on. I ended up installing a valve at the end of every hose. It would be much better if the female connector had a built-in valve.

they're dog shit. Mine broke on first use, the little nozzle one, but I have the big one and it's pretty solid.

Best Garden Hose I’ve Ever Used
I have always hated garden hoses, so this time, I did a deep-dive on all the reviews, talked to friends, etc. Nothing good at the local stores. Finally decided on Flexzilla. My wife is the gardener in the family. At first she thought I'd spent a lot for "just another hose" but she only had to use it once to say "why aren't they all like this!?" One friend who suggested Flexzilla advised me to be careful not to drive over it too much, but that's not a problem with my house & yard layout.

Best Garden Hose I’ve Ever Used
My Flexzilla hoses are great but don't leave them in the sun. The rubber on mine has begun to degrade and it is weeping sticky plasticizer all over the surface. 3 years after purchase, fyi.

Best Garden Hose I’ve Ever Used
My family’s go to is to use a brass ball valve with a short brass non adjustable jet nozzle. At work I use ace hardware over molded zinc spray nozzles. The solid zinc ones tend to get cold in the hands from spraying too long, the rubber insultes against that. Biggest thing is to keep something like triflow or ptfe spray on hand and squirt a little inside the body onto the rod. Just squirting a little on the outside is a temporary fix. I imagine there’s some really nice quality nozzles out there though. Just haven’t gotten to them yet.

Right there with you. Bought one and legit in love. Best hose. Pay a premium but totally worth it. Long life, if you maintain it well too.

Best Garden Hose I’ve Ever Used
I have had a couple different kinds of the Flexzilla garden hoses. One was a 3/4inch with anodized aluminum connections, and that one has been great. While I would theoretically prefer brass over aluminum fittings, it hasn’t actually caused any problems so far (probably about 4 years). My wife ordered a couple more and we ended up with the half inch version with the pre-installed plastic quick connect fittings. Those aren’t great. The way that the female plastic quick connect fittings attach to the hose appears to weaken or damage it, and both of those hoses failed by rupturing the hose about an inch below the fitting before the end of the summer. Now… if we were kinder to the hose, and didn’t leave it pressurized laying out on the patio baking in the sun all day every day, that probably wouldn’t have happened, but I’m lazy and other hoses seem to tolerate that same abuse much better.

I used work in an industry that used a TON of hoses I would use the hot water hoses from ace or big box stores. They lasted so much longer than anything else I found.

Then be sure to leave that thing to your kids in your will. If you ever find yourself needing to make a new connection on it, use the smooth crimp rings, cut about a 1” section off, slice it, and then fit it around the end once you’ve set the barb. That will keep the flex from compromising the connection.

I’d say the black continentals with actual brass ends would last longer but the flexzilla stuff is awesome to use. Run the air hose at work and a pressure washer hose at home. Watch out for aluminum hose ends painted gold. They don’t last as long.

Agree. We also found a hose brand called “flexzilla” that is great also and is a bit lighter than the heavy duty rubber hoses. Had it for 2+ yrs now and leave it out in SW sun all the time and it’s still like new

I have a FlexZilla and it kinks way less than my previous hose. Haven't had it long enough to see how well it fares long term though.

I bought several lifetime guarantee garden hoses. No they don’t last more than a few years in Arizona. But, I keep returning them and they keep replacing them. Flexzilla or flexon from Costco was where I got them. But the warranty is the key

Flexzilla holds up well. People like eley and they have a nice warranty, but I’ve never tried one. If it’s in budget take a look at the retractable ones—people love those

Brass Fitting Garden Hose?
Are we running over hoses with cars these days? While Eley is the answer, my answer is Flexzilla as the cost leader. All of my hoses, regardless of maker, get an assload of teflon tape at each connection and a wipe/apply of silicone on all seals. I have a little box I take when doing hose work twice a year that contains a wire brush, rag, silicone, two wrenches and extra rubber seals. I legit do a full maintenance procedure with each undoing of a connection. I also use a lot of metal Gardena quick-disconnects and those get lubed as well. All connections have zero leaks at all times but my OCD on this topic is set to full retard.

Flexzilla is made of the same stuff they make gas dispensers out of. Goes around corners, doesn't kink isn't too heavy. Good stuff. We've had ours 12 years.

Im a big fan of flexzilla. The rubber is substantial but flexible and doesn't tangle or hold its shape when left wound. The connections are also substantial with a handle to help tighten onto the threads.

I mean I have one too, they are great for what they are, but they are light duty and pretty disposable. I also have a flexzilla and some commercial hoses. And a shitbox hose, some Eley nozzles and shitbox nozzles....all have their use cases and purposes. Not everything in life has to be the killer version....something we often step over here.

Garden hose recommendations?
You are not asking a BIFL question but a use case question. Flexzilla is probably your salvation in terms of hose with it being lightweight and fairly hardy. It is the cost winner for BIFL hoses with it also being lightweight. Not as light as the As Seen On TV expandables, but not a brute like a commercial hose. Eley is the brute reel. Another option that combines them would be https://hozereel.com/products/decorative-retractable-garden-hose-reel with a reel and a lightweight hose.

Hose nozzles? I feel like I replace mine every summer
They're all pretty consumable nowadays. I use the Flexzilla fire hose style and just keep an extra one on hand. They last a year or two.

Flexzilla Garden hose
My Flexilla sits on a hose reel outside in sun all summer. Mine get a nasty sticky, tacky feeling to it. I found that GOO GONE adhesive remover works really nicely. However, the problem consistently returns.
