I’m looking for a BIFL hoodie
For a traditional hoodie, the Champion Reverse Weave is king. Very heavy duty, great fit, wears like iron. Flat out amazing. The most versatile hoodie around. Perfection. If you just want warmth and comfort, without any style whatsoever, the Duckworth Powder Hoodie is crazy good. It’s not very resistant to wind, but is otherwise super warm for a garment so light in weight. I put mine on in October, and take it off in May. Absurdly comfortable. I’ve tried American Giant. It’s as well made as the Champion, but it’s just too oddly shaped for my liking. Not designed for humans. Arborwear makes the heaviest and toughest hoodie, but beware of the hood. It’s designed to go over helmets, so it’s HUGE. You’ll need 5 hats to take up the extra hood room. So heavy it’s really only for very cold outdoor use. The Flint and Tinder 10 year hoodie was a major let down. It’s just a medium weight hoodie, like your average medium weight Carhartt. Total scam. If you don’t mind 1/4 zip, the Carhartt Rain Defender Loose Fit Heavyweight Quarter-Zip Hoodie is outstandingly solid. Somewhere between the Champion and the Arborwear in terms of weight. The extra mock neck collar keeps you super warm when the cold winds on winter kick up. This is an amazing hoodie for winter.

Torn Between Two BIFL-Recommended Hoodies
It's still my everyday, no real complaints. It has the somewhat typical hoodie issue where the elastic at the bottom gets a little bit bunched up, which they specifically say isn't going to happen, but i do a lot of sitting (driving etc) so it doesn't bother me. I wish I'd gotten a smaller size as they run very large. But it still looks like it did when I got it and keeps me warm.

Carhartt Detroit Style Jacket
It seems like the Flint & Tinder waxed trucker from Huckberry is exactly what you're looking for. Though honestly, if you like the Carhartt, go with that--I grew up in the land of Carhartt and while they were standard equipment for many trades (such as oil extraction) they were also the basic standard of any outdoor recreation. I struggle to remember someone who hunted, fished, serial-killed, or photographed birds without a Carhartt.

Sounds like you know how to care for it, and have been. It could just be the canvas itself starting to .. I dunno.. molt? Doesn't sound right. Get a macro photo of it or send Huckberry an email. They are very helpful once you get past the AI chat bot ... I've had the Rancher and Trucker since they both launched and don't have that on either jacket though.

Yes. I originally got a different color (I forget what they call it). It looked tan on their website, but in person it was yellow-ish. My teen daughter told me to exchange, and she was right. Havana is great. Matches everything. I’ve gotten many compliments. My son has a Filson. It’s like a coffee-with-cream-in-it color. Also nice (and more the tan I was envisioning with the first jacket I ordered), but I like my darker F&T more. Filson is heavier weight, cut a bit shorter (I’m too old to pull off that look, I think), and not as wrinkly/rugged looking to my eye. Still very nice, and I don’t think either one would disappoint. Oh, for what it’s worth I’m 6’ 185lbs and have an athletic build. The first order was size L and it just felt too short. Again, my daughter agreed and so I ended up with an XL. My dress shirts have 34-35” sleeves and the jacket sleeves are maybe 1” longer than I’d like, but it otherwise fits just right. I actually fold the cuffs in half and it looks like they are meant to be that way. Anyway, the sizing is a bit weird so I thought I’d mention it. You might order two sizes and return the one that you don’t prefer.

What material water-resistant jackets are most breathable?
Waxed canvas is my favourite, especially if you're looking for something longer-lasting / BIFL. I've yet to find a synthetic material that lasts. As others have already said you can wax it as thick as you want, and leave armpit areas unwaxed for breathability. You can even just buy regular canvas and wax it yourself. If you're a fan of leather patina or denim fades the wax wear patterns are equally satisfying. I've owned a Flint and Tinder flannel lined wax canvas jacket for about three years now and put in a solid hour a year re-waxing it using Otter Wax. Generally very waterproof and very cozy.

Looking for a good every-day jacket that only gets better with age under 300
I have a flannel lined waxed trucker jacket from flint and tinder. Had it for about 7 years and it's definitely aged nicely. They go for around $300, but you could also wait for a sale. Huckberry will probably have some for winter items coming up soon.
