  Good leather boots reccomendations?

  If you want a pair of boots that are built for life, it’s tough to look much further that the Pacific Northwest boot-makers. Nick’s, White’s, Frank’s, and JK all make some seriously tough boots that will last for decades with proper care. But they are also not cheap. So you get what you pay for. If PNW boots are too pricey for you, consider Red Wing or Jim Green. Both are well made. I think of Jim Green as PNW light. The leathers aren’t the same but still well made for a fair price, and many are double lasted. And a lot of first responders seem to like Redbacks if you’re okay with a slip on Chelsea style. I didn’t think I would ever like a Chelsea boot. But I now own 3 pairs because they’re just so comfortable. Waterproof can be a quirky thing. Most waterproof boots have a waterproof liner. Those make your feet sweat and stink. And once you get a hole in them, and you eventually will, all waterproofing is out the window. In fact it’s worse because any water that gets in at that point is trapped and makes a nice swamp in your boot. I would rather have a double lasted boot, leather outside and leather lined. And treated with a good waterproof conditioner like Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP or Huberd’s Shoe Grease.

  Tired of shoes lasting 6-12 months. What to get?

  Try the PNW (Pacific Northwest) boots by Nicks, JK, Frank’s, White’s, Drew’s and Wesco - i’m 65 and I’m pretty good health, but there’s a good chance they will outlive me.

  Also check out whites. Especially need to frequent eBay and look up nicks whites Wesco, viberg, John lofgren, rolling dub trio, grant stone, Truman, Frank's, imperial, sagaara, onderhound, rancourt, Caswell, iron boots, jakkrabbits, oak Street. Just figure your sizing. Or save another hundred or two plus 4 or 5 and go with quick ship options with nicks

  Definitely no where close to buy it for life. You'll be lucky to get more than a year out of them. There is no such thing as a buyer for life boot. The closest thing you'll ever find are going to be Pacific Northwest foods like Nick's whites Wesco JK, Frank's. Those are in the $4-800 range. Then there's the likes of viberg, John lofgren, and the Japanese that get in the 2k range

  Propper Boots, are they a BIFL?

  *sigh* we get similar posts every day. Check out r/PNWbootmakers or r/goodyearwelt, they have pinned posts about most shoemakers in all price points. Nick’s, JK’s, Frank’s, Truman, Wesco, White’s, etc., for US-based bootmakers. So many more for UK-based, Australia-based, Indonesia-based, Japan-based, etc. It’s a good rabbit hole to jump into.

  Suggestions for long last work boots

  I second the recommendation of Nicks. I have multiple pairs and obsessively read the Nicks subreddit. Nicks, White’s, JK, and Frank’s, all based in Spokane, are essentially identical in how they’re made. Even a gently used pair from Ebay would be a good buy.
