  What’s the best document/ proof of purchase scanner

  i’ve had the fujitsu scansnap ix500 for over 8 years now. scans everything from receipts, photos and documents. i also have the scansnap ix1500 with the touchscreen lcd model. but i still prefer the simpler one button ix500.

  Correct, scanner is not flatbed. It can scan directly to cloud, but Fujitsu does not port its "ScanSnap Home" software to Linux. Never tried it, but this exists: [https://www.hamrick.com/alternate-versions.html](https://www.hamrick.com/alternate-versions.html) I have Linux on my LAN, but use my ix300 connected to a Mac mini via USB. Profile saves to an iCloud Drive sync'd folder (because Fujitsu doesn't support iCloud - DropBox, Goof, OneDrive, Box are there). SANE probably works fine for basic operations, too. All of that said, you'll be much better off using Mac or Winblows with the Fujitsu. (I'd argue for any scanner. I use Linux all day every day at work and use headless SBCs for stuff and things on my network, but it's a shitty desktop OS and I see very limited use for attaching a scanner to a Linux box.) The printer is very well supported on Linux so no issue there.

  I love fujitsu laptops. Those are build to last, thats why I buy them refurbished (usually were in leasing for 3 years). Sometimes they looks new.

  What you want to buy is a business-class laptop with the latest generation processor from AMD or Intel. It should be a model that comes with a 3-year or longer warranty standard. The warranty is the key here - that’s how you get better quality. Business-class laptops are easier to repair and generally have spare parts available too. A laptop with a standard 1-year warranty with add-on warranty available isn’t the same quality level as one that comes with a longer warranty standard. Also, don’t buy any laptop from a big-box store. They are most likely to have corners cut in the manufacturing. Call the manufacturer and ask what models have the best warranty available without an add-on warranty. As about any deals or specials on those models. HP for example sells ‘smartbuy’ models that save money over a custom order build. HP - Zbook Dell - Latitude or Precision Lenovo Thinkpad Fujitsu Lifebook Panasonic $$ Getac $$ There are probably a couple other manufacturers out there worth buying, but these are the ones I’ve bought plenty of over many years.

  Laptop Specs Recommendations

  Expensive for those specs. What you might be looking for is a workstation laptop, or portable workstation. I'd go with Fujitsu.

  [Request] Consumer-Grade (not military spec) Laptop with the longest lasting hardware/hinges

  Hell even I have to agree and I hate windows. I'm in computer engineering and we were issued these Surface things, I hated it at first but now, especially with VDI, I sort of prefer it. Lightning fast and all the corporate stuff work very well. As someone who makes his money outside the windows world, I have to give credit where it is due. MS did a good job here. However it is not tough, just has less part to break. It is a tablet, albeit a good one. Back when we got dirty, we had basically three laptops we gave out to field staff. These were not IT people. These were land surveyors, farmers, mountaineers, and other outdoor people. We had a thin Fuji, Lenovo X (with the tilting screen), and toughbooks. The Levovos always performed the worst. THere was nothong particularly wrong with the Fuji, but screens broke and water and dust got in everywhere. Panasonic has rubber gussets to cover ports and the hinge is very well made. For a laptop that claims to be tough it is also fairly responsive and has a decent display. At home, the laptop I have had for about 4-5 years now, with a bend in the aluminum frame from a drop is a metal HP elitebook. I absolutely love it. It is very well made, top spec for the time, and can take a beating. I take it on the road, bang it in airports, and generally treat it with no respect. It is fine. Also runs Debian without any issues, which I need for work. If you are not going to be killing it in a swamp, I highly recommend it. (I have the hp elitebook 8460p kind of crappy screen in that model but I needed it for work)
