What is your most unintentional BIFL item?
My wife's George Foreman grill she bought for £15 or so when she did her bachelor's degree in the early 2010s. The cheapest, shittiest model. This thing survived 5 apartments, a house renovation, 5th horseman of apocalypse which is our daughter and my anger issues. This thing is just 2 pieces of plastic with ceramic coating in the middle and by all accounts should have been recycled before we even got married, but it would grill our toasts to perfection every time we plug this old man. It does not have any smart features, display or even an on/off button. I will not get rid of it even though I once left it on by accident for 2 days and it burned my fingers on 6 different occasions (if you think I should not be left alone in the kitchen then you are right).

As seen on TV products that are surprisingly BIFL
I have a Foreman grill from 2006. First one with removable plates. I use it all the time. Made grilled chicken on it for dinner tonight. Will be bummed out if it ever breaks.

BIFLers, what things do you not understand why people spend their money on?
I love my George Foreman Grill (aka panini press). I bought it at a thrift store around 20 years ago and it still works great. It makes an awesome grilled cheese sandwich.

BIFL but doesn't last for life: Oxiclean. I will never not have it in my laundry room because it works. Bose speakers, we still had a set from the 80's until a few years ago. George Foreman grill. It works, maybe not as fat reducing as advertised, but it's useful. You can make a mean grilled cheese bagel on them too, one of the best 3am snacks at work.

I still have one of those 'forever sharp' knife my dad bought from a door-to-door sale 15 years ago. It's still the best bread knife I've ever had. We used it to break down an entire Christmas tree one year, and it was completely unfazed.

I dated a women once that put her my foreman in the dishwasher. Well I waited about a month of it in a big Tupperware full of rice I got from a neighbor that was throwing it out (the rice) and lo and behold the damn thing worked again. It’s was a tough grill

my old skool George Foreman is a work horse... made a kick stand so it could be set to not drain all the fat immediately. not luxury fancy, but works and easy to clean. all win.

Sandwich maker with solid closing mechanism?
Would a George Foreman grill not work for your needs? My family uses one for grilled/pressed sandwiches, and we’ve been using the same one for decades at this point.
