A good pair of stainless steel general purpose scissors can last a lifetime.
In case it helps anyone, I did a deep dive on scissors last week because I wanted a nice pair for Christmas. The list of brands I ended up with was: * Ernest Wright * Gingher (acquired by Fiskars) * Kai * Fiskars * Wiss

The Best Thread Snips for Sewing/Quilting
I love my Gingher snips but I’d consider BUGGENHEIN. I got a pair of their stubby scissors on sale for around $12 and they punch above their weight. Theirs deals and site seem gimmicky but I’m probably going to buy from them again

What are the best scissors for everyday use?
I have different ones for sewing. They're gingher brand. I'd never, ever use them to cut anything but fabric. Dressmaker shears aren't made to cut things like wire, cardboard, sandpaper, duct tape etc. The Cutco ones can cut anything and not even flinch.

Brands you swear by that have Buy It For Life quality products
I’d argue Gingher scissors are superior over Friskars for fabric. I have a hand me down pair that are sharper than any other pair I’ve used, and they are over 60 years old. I reach for them over the friskars in my sewing basket on every project. However, they must only be used on fabric, the first time they are used to cut paper they are ruined for cutting fabric. While their scissors are amazing, their rotary cutters are soso. Olfa is more BIFL for rotary cutters.
