Has anyone installed a home water filtration system recently? need advice
If it's just taste that's bothering you, a whole house system might be overkill. Those are more for hard water, sediment, or contamination throughout the house. For drinking water taste, an under sink filter is way cheaper and easier. I put in an under sink RO system a while back and the taste difference was pretty noticeable. I got a Glacierfresh U03 under sink ro system, took like 30 minutes to install myself. It's just for the kitchen tap but that's where I drink water and cook anyway. Way less expensive than a whole house setup and no need to get plumbers involved. Whole house systems make sense if you're dealing with hard water damaging fixtures, sediment clogging things, or water quality issues affecting showers and appliances. But if it's just taste, you're probably overthinking it. Have you tested your water to see what's actually in it? You can get a basic test kit for like 20 bucks. That'll tell you if there's something actually wrong or if it's just chlorine taste from the city treatment. Most places the taste issue is just chlorine which any carbon filter handles.

This is solid advice. Only thing I would add is to find out if you need one with a chip or not. I run the Glacier Fresh generics.

Best water filtration system for my apartment
Both gravity-fed and countertop RO are solid choices for rentals. I have the Glacier Fresh gravity fed water filter system and it works well - gets rid of chlorine, metals, bacteria, all that stuff. The filters last way longer than those pitcher ones you're used to, so less hassle. Since you're in Florida, removing fluoride is probably helpful too. Just plop it on your counter and you're good to go.
