I'd advise playing close attention to your phones engine. Snapdragon engines are my choice. Definitely pick a phone with at least 6GB of RAM. I had to go phone shopping for my mom and I a 2? years ago and we settled on the Google Pixel 4a 5G because of, mostly, price. We were using the Pixel 1s until then, so I understand your struggle. There are so many phones out there.

If you're open to Android, I am very happy with my Pixel 6. I still get the latest Android updates and it's performed very well.

The cheapest will also be the oldest, which will just mean you’ll have the same problem next year. Generally seven years is the support timeframe for smartphones, so software updates won’t be available for models older than that. You’re better off getting the latest budget model, so like an iPhone 16e or Pixel 9a

[Google guarantees 7 years of OS and security updates](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en) on their newest phones. I don't believe Apple has a roadmap of when devices will go unsupported. Cheaper phones such as Motorola can be okay if you are one a tight budget, but they come with a lot of pre-installed junk apps that they make as difficult to remove as possible, and usually only get OS and security updates for a year or two.

Android phones that can last a long time?
Bought pixel 6 on release, hammered it, then gave it to my son for his first phone. He's never off the thing, and it doesn't miss a beat. Does need a lot of charging though.

Looking for bluetooth earbuds that aren't gonna crap out a month outside of warranty
I have a pair of pixel buds a- series I got when purchasing a new pixel phone a few years ago. I've gone through ear buds a lot but mostly cheap amazon ones. If/when the pixel buds die, I will definitely be getting a new pair. They sync every time without a problem ever. They have lasted multiple drops in and out of the case. I've had them for around 4 years and use them a lot at work. The battery is starting to run down quicker than normal but they are the best I've owned. I have not used the pixel buds pros, so I'm not sure about the noise cancelling.

Where Does "Buy It for Life" Not Make Sense?
I made a google pixel 4a last until this battery issue they just discovered. Traded it in for 75$ off, and got 200$ off a new pixel 8a. That's roughly 6 years and the new replacement cost me 171$. You don't have to buy phones every year. 7
