What is one product or brand that you feel is heavily under appreciated?
Honestly, I think Gränsfors Bruk axes are criminally underappreciated. They’re hand-forged in Sweden, built to last decades (literally lifetime tools if cared for), and yet they don’t get anywhere near the mainstream recognition compared to flashy “outdoor brands.” The same goes for Opinel knives – insanely simple design, but they just work and last forever. On the less “outdoorsy” side, I’d also throw in Zojirushi rice cookers/thermoses. The engineering in those is wild for the price – they outlast most other kitchen gear by years. Feels like we overlook these types of brands because they’re not aggressively marketed, but in terms of buy-it-for-life value, they blow a lot of bigger names out of the water.

Honestly i knew that out there are some cheap options that probably perform better for way less. But those are pieces of art in my opinion. So it’s worth it for me. I absolutely love them.

This company has been making axes in Sweden for 100 years, and you’re over here telling me this is, “mall ninja shit”? Lmao, I’m pretty sure there are a myriad of frugal oriented subs that you can go gate-keep people in. So many people in the sub are just salty about mildly expensive products.

For this of y’all saying that this is a vanity purchase and not BIFL… you’ve never used a Gansfors Bruk before. My wife is a wilderness educator and these are light years away from the next nearest competitor. OP, I’m extremely jealous.

I've got the splitting axe, model 445. 5.5 pound head, maul profile but not a maul. It's lovely to swing, I was using a Fiskars 8lb maul and it was just overkill for most of the rounds I get. The lighter Gransfors splitter is just so much nicer on my back, and the maul only comes out for the really stubborn ones. The Fiskars stuff is also perfectly BIFL, but I just really enjoy swinging a classic Swedish axe. I've also got a Gransfors large carving axe, and a Svante Djarv small cutting axe.
