Looking for a good quality wrist watch
Get the Gucci if you want. Get off this thread and stay sane. They have ETA mechanical movements -- a slam-dunk great Swiss movement that will outlive you. Should be windable and also self-wind as you wear it. Serviceable all over the world, too. It will last. Go on Etsy -- there are some 30+ years old in fine condition (as proof it lasts). Most swiss watches get ETA movements, because they are all owned by the ETA parent company. Some independent makes from Switzerland use Sellita movements (again, great Swiss movement).

I’m in Spain for the holidays, what are some BIFL/quality items I can get here that I can’t get in the US?
Products from other seasons. It’s quite a luxury outlet: Gucci, Armani, Carolina Herrera, etc. There’s also Swatch, North Face, Le Creuset, Ray Ban. There’s a website, check it out!

You have an outlet in the outskirts. It’s called Las Rozas Village (30min from Madrid downtown). There you have Loewe, Carolina Herrera, Gucci, etc. Try something there!

BIFL is about quality not the brand name.
I’m not married to brands BUT I am a reseller and I choose brands first if I can because they are easier to resell. Let’s say you want a high-ish end bag. You go to Dillards and see a bag that’s well made but you’ve never heard the brand name. You look it up, and it’s for sale online at a high price but the resell market is nonexistent. Five years later you probably wouldn’t be able to unload the bag for a decent amount because the brand never made traction. Instead you go to Coach or Gucci and you get a bag from there. Resell won’t be a problem. That’s my thinking. It depends on the item, of course.

Graduation Gift Ideas
you're smart to skip all the typical graduation junk. nobody needs another engraved pen or decorative paperweight that'll collect dust for years before ending up in a donation bin tbh. youve got the right idea focusing on smth practical and long-lasting, but try to make it enjoyable too. think about stores she's really into or hobbies she's passionate about. A gift card to one of those places could work great, esp if you turn it into an experience - spend a day shopping together and grab lunch or dinner. That's particularly nice if she's heading off to college soon and you won't see her as much. I'd also suggest looking at something a bit more elevated. Doesn't need to break the bank, but quality items like good shoes, a nice wallet, jewelry, or a signature fragrance can make a real difference. These are things she'll acc use regularly and take care of because they feel special. Also, I've been seeing those little phone photo printers everywhere lately - could be a fun option so she can acc print out memories with friends instead of just scrolling past them in her camera roll and forgetting about them. one last tip: whatever you're considering, take time to research it and check reviews. nothing worse than finding the perfect gift only to have it fall apart after a few uses. also, really pay attention to her preferences - notice whether she wears silver or gold jewelry, ask her friends or parents what shoe styles she's been eyeing, or take her to try fragrances at the mall. get her smth she actually wants, not just smth in a category she likes. sorry for the long af post but hope it helped<3

Wife wants a high quality leather purse for Christmas (NOT “luxury” brands)
I'd go with a local leather person or a designer vintage. For Christmas a few years ago I got myself a vintage Gucci bamboo for a fraction of the price (approx 900 USD) of the modern bamboo bag (the new ones are like 4000++ USD!!!). No Gucci logo on it so very much a if-you-know-you-know bag. Just saying there are plenty of great vintage designer finds out there that aren't crazy expensive, and are made very well, if your wife is into vintage :)

Wife wants a high quality leather purse for Christmas (NOT “luxury” brands)
I have a slouchy Gucci cow leather bag with chain shoulder straps, 13 years and counting, first ten years almost daily wear including as a diaper bag for two kids and traveling around the world, looks absolutely pristine, even the beige lining is basically perfect because it's very stain resistant and easy to pull out and wash (it's not sewn in on the bottom).

Bright bifl women's clothing?
Try to look for vintage pieces very specific to the colors you want, in 100% natural fibers like silk, cotton, and wool. I have an orange Banana Republic zip up that I got secondhand that has to be 20 years old that is indestructible and still vibrant as new. Most clothes made before 2008 will have sturdier construction and better quality materials. I have two 100% silk tops from the 80s that are also vibrant as ever. Older items also won’t have buttons and strings hanging off and open seams if you know how to spot the well made ones, too. Find things online or irl thrift that are over 20 years old but in good brands like Land’s End, J Crew, Ralph Lauren, even Gucci, Dior, Armani but old enough to be priced well now. My closet is 60% thrift and BIFL and that Venn Diagram is a circle! The slightly older items last so much better I’ve found.

What's the most expensive item you've bought with the intention of keeping it for life?
I bought my Gucci bracelet with the money I earned from my part-time job while I was at uni. I bought it for my 20th birthday. For a young man, that’s not an easy expense to cover. Of course, I had other options to reward myself for my efforts in work and study. I could have saved the money or invested it in stocks, but I wanted to spend it in a way that felt right for me. I don’t usually buy many accessories, but this bracelet is something I will cherish for life.

Womens heels? All purpose work/dress formal shoes.
On the expensive side, but I have both Gucci and Chanel heels that I purchased in college nearly 30 years ago, and they are still going. Regular business use, and resoling every 7-10 years.

Decently priced wool greatcoats that will keep me warm sub-zero celsius?
I have a bunch of alpaca and cashmere long coats. They are fluffy and especially warm compared to normal wool. With base layers under my clothes, they are definitely warm to below 32°F. I'd recommend searching on eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, Grailed, Depop and TheRealReal. There are lots of really great deals available. I paid less than a $100 for each of mine, and they are companies like Gucci, Nordstrom, Oswald Boateng, Isaia, and Canali.
