  honestly winter jackets don’t have to be crazy expensive unless you’re chasing a luxury label if you’re flexible, checking places like TJMaxx/Marshalls/Nordstrom Rack can get you solid mid-tier brands (even the nicer Calvin Klein or Guess ones) for way under retail, and they hold up fine for everyday use. amazon also has a ton of decent options now as long as you look for the right features: a water-resistant shell, some form of lightweight insulation, and fabric that’s breathable but still warm enough in that 40–70° range so you’re not sweating the second you move. i personally look for wrinkle-resistant materials and something that packs or folds easily because it ends up being way more practical than bulky coats, especially if you’re traveling or commuting. going to link [an option](https://dk5cnflyn7mcb.cloudfront.net/?q=GMKAO424) i like here.

  BIFL Jeans the Community Recommends?

  Gusset jeans They're the only ones I've found that can put up with the tourment that I put jeans through. I've been rotating two pairs for about two years now, which is longer than I get out of any pants. I expect they'll last another 2 before needing replaced.

  what winter coat are yall using?

  I found a shin length guess jacket at Burlington last season for around $100 that has the lines like a puffer, but isn't a puffer because it's made of the higher quality insulated synthetic fabric on the outside and is hella warm with a nice fur lined hood that is both super warm and super deep. I also live in upstate NY and you're right, it's fuggin brutal with the wind chill. They probably still have some on the rack from last season at your local one. I'm not a brand name person, I'm a quality and durability person. This coat made it so that I could survive the transition from a decade in southern California back to this part of the country.

  Didn’t expect this to last me 10+ years… but here we are

  "Anyone else have an unexpectedly loyal item like that?" Yep, way back in 1984 I bought a really nice jean jacket, with a lot of leather, it was lined. It was from a new company that was just a year old so we didn't really know much about the company then, no internet, no reviews that way, as it was only 1983 when the company came out and only 1984 when I bought this jean jacket. It was from Guess. I still wear it regularly each year and have each and every year since then. The leather has faded as it's no longer bright red, but a nicer faded red. NONE of the leather is cracked or chipped etc. It's heavy, thick, the lining has some holes and some wear, but it's still in the jacket too. Thing is a beast. It's over 40 years old now and I NEVER imagined back in 1984 I'd still be wearing that jean jacket in 2024, 2025 etc.

  I still have my jean jacket, with a lot of leather on from it Guess that I bought back in 1984 in high school. Guess was a new company, only came out in 1983, we had no idea what the company was going to be like, if it would be good, last etc. This jacket is heavy, it's lined, it's tough, the leather is still great over 40 years later, I wear it every year, often. The leather is red, but faded to a light red now and for a long time. I bought a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses in 1993 and I wouldn't have had to replace them, but I lost them the week after this last Xmas. They were still great and I did NOT baby them. I wore them daily, rode on bicycles a ton with them, sweating a lot, dropped them so many time in the 30 plus years I owned them. I had to replace them but not due to them wearing out or breaking, only because I lost them. I wore them doing yard work, cutting the grass, hiking, in the car driving. Didn't matter, they were my daily sunglasses and I wore them whatever I was doing. They were still going strong after more than 30 years. I have two nice leather bags, one is all veg tanned leather and the other is chromium tanned but both will outlast me, easily.
