I would go in the raw denim direction because the others are pretty specific but raw denim is something where everyone would be happy to have another nice pair of pants. If he's into clothes you could give him a gift certificate for a bespoke shirt or suit

  Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?

  r/rawdenim might be worth searching. Naked & Famous and Unbranded are good brands with decent pricing. There are very few denim mills left in the United States and I'm fairly certain the ones that are left do not produce raw selvedge denim. You can find quality jeans made in the US, but the denim will likely be sourced from Japan. Some brands still have some jeans made from dead stock raw denim from cone mills in North Carolina, but sizing will be limited. Brave Star Selvedge has some. After that's gone, they're either getting it from Cone Mills in Mexico or a Japanese mill. Gustin has American made denim and may also have us made dead stock denim. Those all have options under $200 (sometimes under $100, if you're patient and check regularly for sales) and they size up to 40-44.

  Confession: I only buy clothes and most items made pre-2020

  I like Gustin, they essentially do whole sale manufacturing on a variety of mostly men's wear and their materials are pretty spot on but occasionally do blends. Jeans are their main thing but their shirts are great. Brave star is also good for shirts and jeans.

  Unbranded makes great stuff for the price point. I often refer to them as the gateway drug of the denim world. For me that company was Gustin.

  Brave Star, Raleigh Denim, Imogene + Willie, Railcar, Flint and Tinder, Weis><Made, Skinner, Gustin, Loyal Stricklin, and others also make jeans etc in the USA out of Vidalia fabrics.  Ciano Farmer Denim Co in Denton, Texas also uses some Texas-milled denim and other USA-made duck fabrics, his stuff is also all high quality, original, and made in house.  Of course everything miusa is expensive
