  I like H&M's style and the fact most of their shirts are 100% cotton as opposed to the blends that Cat & Jack have, but most of the toddler tee shirts I've gotten from there are paper thin. Their toddler pants have been nice though.

  my kid is wearing mostly his cousins hand me downs rn, but i generally buy on sale/clearance from h&m kids/baby, old navy and gap baby. old navy for some basics for a cheaper price (on sale) my toddler grows like a weed and is quite tall for his age so he outgrows things very fast. h&m things usually fit a bit bigger/long so i get more use out of them which is what i always prefer. I'm always told by people my son is really well dressed which always makes me happy as i do like to dress him up! A lot of his hand me downs are also from h&m and my nephew IS the best dressed toddler i know haha. I have had pretty bad luck with carters and nike stuff, runs small and shrinks a lot! i only use cold water to clean and low/air dry to dry all my things but they still shrink. for colder weather/thermals the wal-mart thermals are super comfy and the uniqlo warmest ones WILL keep ur kid cozy (they are expensive but imo totes worth it). but def lurk on the apps and check out the stores if youre ever in the mall i always find some deals in the sales/clearances

  H&M, Old Navy, and honestly have been really surprised with the Jumping Bean brand at Kohl’s! Most of our stuff comes from garage sales and Once Upon a Child though!

  I honestly find some of the “better” brands worth the price, mainly for the fabric they use. The fabrics determine the ability to be resist stains and hold up if you need to scrub them, but also how well they hold their shape. My very favourite is a little Canadian brand called Miles the Label. Blacks have stayed black, fabrics are heavier etc. Ultimately, any brand can have good or bad pieces. Beyond MTL, I’ve had luck with Old Navy leggings and PJs, H&M tops, and Zara sweatshirts. Reima for winter gear. Stride rite has been awesome for shoes for us.

  Hanna Anderson is great quality and easy to resell/consign. Patagonia for outerwear. Ive been happy with the quality of most of my Zara purchases but they don’t resell/consign as easily. I also have had good luck with H&M as long as it’s 100% cotton. A nice thing about H&M is a lot of their bottoms have waist expanders so they can grow with the child. H&M runs into same issue not being able to resell/consign as it’s seen as “fast fashion”. I have had the best experience buying from consignment shops. For one, they buy it back :) Last Xmas my daughter wore a Hanna Anderson dress once and I sold it back to them. Also it’s an affordable way to get more expensive clothes for great prices. She’s wearing some $65 Boden shoes that I got for around $15. The Patagonia Ive been able to find on Poshmark.

  Target’s Cat and Jack has much better textile quality when compared to Walmart’s Garanimals and Carter’s. They hold up to hot water washes far better than those two brands, with minimal fading. Carter’s was especially disappointing since they are all marked up and double the price. Old Navy is level with Cat and Jack as well, but don’t shop there as much as Target since Cat and Jacks cuts,m and consistency in clothing sizes for my daughter best. A step up from Cat and Jack would be GAP and H&M, I always forget to shop there more often. We don’t budget for much more than those brand prices since they grow so fast. I now have a few pieces from Cat and Jack that have lasted 2-3 years from my now 6yo, that will be put away for her baby sister. All of the Cat and Jacks clothes that she has grown out of has held up well enough to be great quality hand me downs.

  Sweaters for sensitive skin

  Look for sweaters made of cashmere, merino wool, and silk. Acrylic is a wool alternative that is less likely to irritate sensitive skin, but tends to get matted looking. Also highly recommend wearing a base layer under sweaters - Uniqlo heat tech is my go-to. Provides extra warmth and keeps the sweaters cleaner. The natural fibers actually don’t need to be laundered often. I also have sensitive skin and I can wear wool if I wear a base for protection. I have sweaters from over a decade ago from j crew, madewell, Victoria’s Secret, banana republic, and even H&M. They still look great. These brands are sadly using less natural fibers now. So I’d recommend shopping secondhand.

  Bed sheets that last?

  I have H&M sheets that have lasted really well (over 5 years and some more 2 years ago), reasonably priced when buying through the app and using discounts. Which ones you buy are based on the type of sleeper you are. I run hot so linen, bamboo and cotton are my go-tos. I learned that thread count doesn’t matter a ton, but i try to get the highest I can afford. Anyone recommending items that are older, they may not have the same manufacturer or suppliers, so it’s something to watch out for. Tbh, I wouldn’t aim for bifl on sheets. When you google, many experts in microbiology suggest replacing every 2 years. That seems crazy wasteful to me but a health consideration for sure.

Not a woman, but in my experience, the only linen clothes with durability issues are pants (as long as you don't put linen in the dryer). My only linen shirts that got a bit scratchy were from esprit, even cheap H&M Shirts feel good after many years even though my skin is less tolerant than my racist coworker.

  I stopped buying clothes for 6 months - and I still had more than enough

  I sometimes thrift fast fashion items and I wear most of my clothes once every two weeks. I wear dresses all but one day a week (these items truly are intended for women), most of my clothes are not seasonal (I wear them regularly throughout the year) and I have brands like H&M and Forever 21 mixed in. The clothes in my current wardrobe average maybe 3 years old, and that's not considering how they were used with the original owner. There are clear examples of poorly made items from cheap brands, but many fast fashion clothing items can last years of regular use.

  10 years and still going strong

  I have two military style belts from H&M which have lasted 20 years and show no signs of slowing down. These are the sliding pin style, not the style that flip up with teeth that sink into the fabric.

  Bright red hoodie for $4 at H&M, 25 years. Quirki "plumber sweater, $4 at Old Navy 20 years ago. 3 pairs of Doc Martens, all $40 at Zappos, 30 years ago. Everything else would be kitchen stuff like all my 7 knives, all my pots, grandma's cast iron.

  Confession: I only buy clothes and most items made pre-2020

  Definitely agree with the lower quality of most items and clothes. Though, it might be the stuff from years ago was just made to last and the other stuff that wasn't is now in the landfills. So I think its more so that more of the big corporations make worse stuff now to increase profits but there still are companies that make clothing and items that do last. Inflation also might be a part of it. Brands try to keep prices low but they have gone up and quality down which makes me think that if the brands kept the quality, they would've needed to raise the prices even more. So to keep up with the quality as before, they would've needed to raise the prices wayy more. Maybe to something that couldn't be classified as affordable which would be the death to some brands whose target audiece is those looking for affordable prices. (Shrinkflation also might be because of this.) I feel like this downplays the affect of covid and its affects on the economy. Also the greediness of corporation might add to this. (I should add that I have no authority to speak about the economy or anything related to it. It's what I've noticed and thought personally but please correct me if I'm entirely wrong. I'm not even sure if this is relavent to the conversation lol) I have some (second hand) silk h&m clothes from the 2000s (based on the tags) and they aren't the highest quality but they are still much better than the average stuff h&m sells today. The clothes there don't even make it to the discount racks without pilling or half of the seams tearing open. My solution too has been thrift stores because not only is it a lot cheaper and someones grandmother had insanely good and durable stuff. Also when it comes to clothes, please learn to take care of them properly. It seriously extends the life of your garment and keeps it looking better for longer. Always a gentle delicate wash (besides like underwear and socks cuz idc) and some clothing (like wool, cashmere, silk or other delicate fabrics) I will always hand wash. In addition repairing clothing is the second best way to keep clothing for longer because if its thrifted you can't go and get the same exact item.

  What's the best thin touchscreen friendly winter gloves in Europe?

  I can also recommend those. Buy one where the thumb also has a little cap that can be removed, as people tend to use their thumb a lot on smartphones. I have one from H&M that is at least 5 years old, but still going strong.

  Found some BIFL favorites at the thrift this weekend!

  It also depends how you treat the clothes. I’ve had clothes (t shirts) from Uniqlo, Target, and H&M last for close to a decade. If I could judge, I’d say only H&M has gone down in fabric quality, but if you don’t go crazy in the wash on them I feel they’ve lasted quite some time. Of course, what you use the clothes for is important. Daily wear to office is very different than use in active sport, for example.

  Mac Pro 5.1 bought in 2010. Apple mechanical keyboard got like i. 2012 but it’s older. H&M chino pants from 2019.

  What's your most comfortable and durable piece of clothing?

  I have some H&M sweatshorts that are probably close to 10 years old at this point. I wear them all the time at home or during summer. Besides the plastic aglet wearing down, they're in great shape and they go through the dryer every time.
