Looking for boots for farming in the north of Scotland
Those Dundas boots are solid but for that kind of daily abuse you might want to look at Haix or Viking - they're made for proper work and handle the Scottish weather like champs

Merrell Nova GTX durability problems — looking for better waterproof alternatives
Lifespan of this type of shoe is 6-12 months no matter the brand. Tbh i just gave up and now i wear 10lbs monsters everyday - its mostly a matter of getting used to. Look for something thats full leather(but cordura inserts are fine for the summer), doesnt have too much unnecessary seams, and doesnt try to hard to look tactical. Example brands are Haix, or Meindl - they are pricey, but you can often buy them in surplus stores in new condition for 1/3rd of the price.

Sneakers or boots for daily wear.
Workwear brands have options that look like sneakers. Haix for example [https://www.haix.de/haix-black-eagle-athletic-2.1-gtx-low-black](https://www.haix.de/haix-black-eagle-athletic-2.1-gtx-low-black)

Breathable work boots for someone with flat feet?
I'll second these (especially for variety and value), but also I'll give another shout to Redwing, and the big boot crew - Haix, Altbeg, Lowa.... Go leather.

[BIFL Request] A work boot for ACTUALLY taking out on the field that doesn't look beauiful
Redwing makes a logging boot that's aluminium toe and steel shank with rubber toe caps. [Photo 1](http://i.imgur.com/xZ1yS83.png) [Photo 2](http://i.imgur.com/n9ofZ2G.png) They're also waterproof, which is a must for me. The only other boots I've had that I like more are Haix. I've still got my Haix that I bought in 2007/8 and had them resoled 4 years ago. Not because they needed it, but I just wanted to see what they'd come back like. The Redwings replaced them because of a worker's comp injury.
