I love the [Hatch Restore 3](https://x.com/ohletsshop/status/1975922948683801081?s=46)—it looks fantastic and doesn't clutter up my nightstand. Design was a big selling point, and it’s very clean. Operationally, it’s a game-changer for mornings. The gentle sunrise light and gradual alarm make waking up so much easier and less shocking than a phone alarm. I’ve noticed a real difference in my routine and no longer instantly reach for my phone. The app is simple, making customization easy. While setup took a minute, once my schedule was locked in, the device just works. After a few months, it feels totally indispensable.

Low light, as annoying as possible, alarm clock
The hatch is what we use. It’s completely dark at night and I have it so it naturally starts turning on light at a certain time, then the alarm noise kicks in. You have to tap-hold to turn it off. Downside is once you turn it off, it won’t snooze. You can also set it for different times on different days.

Hatch light would be a good choice. It is plug-in only (2-prong) but has the ability to set noises, colors, and timers. We have one for my 4 year old and use it every night and travel with it.

You can use the hatch without subscrition. I refuse to do subscriptions, too, and I love my hatch. It gives like 6 options for sound, a lot of light color options, and plenty of customizations. You can even use it as a regular side lamp and it can be set up as white noise.

I just got a rest 2nd gen and it has an option for Hatch+ but you don’t have to sign up for it. It’s even that in your face with advertising it. When you set up a new routine there’s a tab for the hatch+ sounds/lights but that’s it. You can still use brown noise/calming noises/some lullabies and change the colors. Hatch+ has sleep stories and more color patterns basically.

Ever Bought Something That Quietly Changed You?
Maybe not BIFL, but a hatch alarm for my bedroom. A few years ago my partner and I decided to make our bedroom “no electronics” so we don’t bring our phones, computers or TVs into the room. It has significantly helped with how fast we fall asleep every night and the conversations we have before bed. To be able to have the hatch slowly wake us up in the morning and not need a phone in the room has been amazing!

Sunrise Alarm recommendations?
I tried both the Loftie and Hatch and can confidently say the Hatch is the better choice for a sunrise alarm clock - 100% worth it. Even with the free sounds (no subscription) it has all of the basics it sounds like you are looking for. It has improved my sleep tremendously.
