For sure cheaper tools have come a long way. It's really not about which is "best", but which is consistent. For many businesses it's about ordering the tool and depending on it without any research. And that's where Snap On still wins - the reputation. Unlike practically everyone else, they did not "sell out". If you buy a Snap On, it's going to be decent without a question. I don't own their tools either. Very rare here in central Europe where we have a lot of our own manufacturers. But the equivalent on reputation is the German Hazet... As a bit of a collector I have some flea market finds - one Snap On socket, one speed handle, one extension and one dual 80 ratchet. All very top end to use without a doubt.

What is your current BIFL item you recommend to everyone?
Project Farm is a very useful channel. You cannot go wrong with most German made tools, handle preference being the variable. Wiha, Felo, Witte, Gedore, etc. all are great quality. Personally I’m a Hazet fan. Stahlwille is a little out of my price range.

Which tool brand ecosystem would you invest in for 2025 and why for the occasionally frugal DIYer?
tekton for diy/homeowner proto for professional I'd like to recomend gearwrench but their quality has sunk below their price point unless you shop the sales. ratchets, hazet hp all day long box end wrenches, id go with carlisle from napa, there's always a sale on their real deals. screwdrivers, klein when on sale, vessel is expensive but the quality is superb and the price is still lower than tool trucks. I repair a lot of tools at my job so I appriciate not buggering screws. torx/hex drivers, gearwrench has an 84piece set for 60$ that i recommend
