Is there anything you're convinced is "the cheaper the better"?
Truth. The cheap Hello Kitty peeler I got off AliExpress with zero expectations turned out to be better than the family-passed-down metal peelers that date back to the 70's.

Something you didn’t expect to be BIFL but outlasted your expectations?
A Hello Kitty toaster that was given to us as a gag wedding gift 15 some-odd years ago. It lasted for ten years of semi-regular use.

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
I mean I did expect our Honda Odyssey to perform about as well as it does. 11 years old, couple times we’ve had $3k mechanic bills, but one was the timing belt replacement at 100k miles and the others I think were all related to the fact that it doesn’t rain here for 8-10 months out of the year so rubber dries out and falls apart. Friends of ours gave us a Hello Kitty toaster when we got married and it lasted like 10 years. Granted we never really made a whole lot of toast, but we did use it. Probably not BIFL because it’s a modern appliance and they don’t last anymore, but getting an induction stove was the best thing I’ve done for the kitchen for a long time. 5 quarts of water boil in under 10 minutes. My wide-bottomed teakettle shrieks in about one minute. I fucking love induction. My only complaint would be that drying my cast iron on the stove takes like 10 minutes because iron is such a terrible conductor that the sides don’t heat up for what feels like forever. Boo hoo.

What's something you've had forever that surprisingly outlasted its time ?
Hello Kitty, toaster. It’s been going for about 15 years where our expensive toasters died within a year! Plus, it toasts Hello Kitty‘s face on our bread!

What purchase changed your habit?
Same here. Minty toothpaste is one of the main reasons for decades I didn't brush regularly. Bought a Hello Kitty kids toothbrush and haven't gone back to an adult sized one.

What did you buy not realizing you bought it for life?
Hello Kitty toaster from Target. Bought one for $6 on clearance as a gag gift. Chatted with a friend and looked it up online. Found out it's a good toaster. Bought one for myself. It's been almost 20 years.
