Looking for a Vacuum
Can you get a Henry in the US? They are head and shoulders above anything else I’ve ever used.

Henry Mine was made in 1998 and is still going strong. Plus it has a smiley face.

Which vacuum should I go with for an apartment that’s mostly medium pile carpet?
Can't comment on specific models since pricing & models vary from place to place.. but corded & bagged are the priorities imo, and a spinning brush nozzle to help pick up hair from the carpet can help a lot - doesn't necessarily have to be the same brand/come with it, you can buy them separately - just make sure it's the correct size connection. Miele, Sebo & Henry are all good, solid choices. Bags act as another filter which helps prevent rubbish getting to the motor, so bagged machines *always* last longer than bagless. They're also more hygienic and easier to clean. Cordless vacuums don't have the same suction power as corded either, so they simply do not clean as well. Great for convenient spot cleaning in between using a corded vac, but not for whole house cleaning - unless your whole house is hard floors, I guess.

Any Vacuums that are convenient and have good suction?
You should look into a Henry

Best Dyson Cordless Vacuum?
Shark, Miele or if you are able to get one a Henry. Dyson have always been arguably better at marketing than manufacturing but in recent years their quality has worsened.

Best Dyson Cordless Vacuum?
Henry is the only vacuum worth buying.

Please help me decide between shark vacuums that will last!
Big fan of Henry over these, if you don’t need to do any shag carpet. Slightly cheaper, super simple to work with, compatible with many of the same high quality replaceable attachments, *and* comes with googly eyes

Looking for a stick vacuum like the one in the photo trusted models you’ve used for years?
After loving our corded shark, we found it hell trying to replace a small part on it, so was keen not to end up buying another vacuum over a cheap part that isn't stocked any more despite the vacuum being only five years old. Henry brought out a cordless stick vacuum cleaner recently, easy to swap out parts, get spares, and clean it, decent power and battery life/charging, easy to empty. Best purchase of the whole year (little ones cause mess, so it gets used nearly every day). Not saying shark isn't good, just suggesting another model to consider for your use case.

What brand will you never buy again?
Yeah, we got an old school Henry after 2 broken Vax's for the same reason. If it's served cleaners in schools well for 50 years, it's good enough for me.

Henry is there, but tucked away in the 'canister vacuum' section of commercial appliances.

AH ok I figured out why the Kirbys didn't show up on this list. [Its a similar problem with the Henrys](https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/1l3cc4f/comment/mw3ilnd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) \- most people refer to their Kirbys as simply "Kirby" without specifying the model. And when they did, there wasn't a standout model in terms of votes. For now, I will solve this by grouping them under a "Kirby upright series" so the votes don't get spread out. With this change, they are no. 16 overall and no. 6 when filtered for VacuumCleaners sub. You can see the updated list here [https://redditrecs.com/vacuum-cleaner/](https://redditrecs.com/vacuum-cleaner/)

AH ok I figured out why Henry didn't show up on this list The thing about Henry is that most people simply refer to it as "Henry", even though there are various different Henry models. So under my [current methodology](https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/1l3cc4f/comment/mvzpuwe/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), the votes are spread out among the different Henry models. Usually this is not a big issue because there are typically a few popular models that people will reference specifically (e.g. lots of people just say "Miele vacuum cleaner", but a lot of people also say "Miele C3" or "Miele C3 Cat & Dog"). And my formula is designed to distribute more weight to those (to reflect the higher probability that those are the ones being referred to), and so they'll still make it up to the top. However, in for Henry, very few people reference the specific model. And when they do, they're not concentrated around a few models. And so the votes got spread evenly. For now, I will solve this by grouping them under a "Henry canister series" so the votes don't get spread out. With this change, they are no. 17 overall and no. 8 when filtered for VacuumCleaners sub. You can see the updated list here [https://redditrecs.com/vacuum-cleaner/](https://redditrecs.com/vacuum-cleaner/) Also did the same for Kirby. In the long term I will review my process to see how to programatically avoid this in the future. Probably will need a mechanism to detect when to group by series, and/or relook the vote distribution formula.

I’m kinda impressed that only one shop vacuum (Milwaukee) made it onto the list, and it’s not even all that nice. Fein, Festool, Starmix, all make very popular vacuums. They’re like super fancy versions of Rigid or Henry. Some of them even are even cordless as well.

Miele, Henry

Recs for handheld carpet cleaners?
Small, not what you’re requesting necessarily, but awesome: James or Henry vacuums. Think “Dyson” power, but much better build quality!

Ask r/vacuumcleaners People here are going to recommend junk like shark and Dyson. You need a Miele, Sebo, Henry or Lindhaus if you want BIFL.

Vacuum for home use - pls recommend
Budget is very important here, but highly recommend Sebo, Miele, or Henry. I recently got a Sebo E3 and it’s truly amazing (which is a word I never thought I’d use to describe a vacuum cleaner haha). Makes me really look forward to vacuuming!

What’s one product you bought that has lasted forever and was totally worth it?
Henry. Got it 10 years ago. Still works like when it was new. Have a teenager at home too, so it is really surviving all the abuse.

Honestly I think the perfect combo is to have a robot to do the regular work and then a Henry for the big jobs.

There's a serious design flaw with these cordless Dysons as that max mode seems to always go this way. I discovered on mine that it's basically the inner filter gets clogged up and needs to be deep cleaned or replaced or it will kill batteries over and over. I generally like the cordless Dysons because they're just so convenient to use. But the difficulty in repairing them, difficulty getting support from Dyson, and continuous consistent defects with the same battery and filter issues in all models in the past 10 years with no improvement leads me to not recommend them. They're also insanely expensive. I got a Roborock robot 2.5 years ago and it does 99% of the vacuuming in my house now. The Dyson I use from time to time still, then I have a Henry for the big dirty jobs - those things are tanks.

The Miele, Henry, and Sebo vacs are the only ones worth a damn on this list. If you want a real BIFL vac and are willing to shell out, get a Lindhaus.

Has everything we buy reduced in quality over time? Has anything increased in quality or stayed high quality and durable?
Firearms made in Japan or Portugal are as good or better than the same brand ones that were made in New England. I said it. I didn’t like saying it, but I did. New manufacture ones from the South are almost as good as the old New England ones. They are equivalent to what was traditionally made in New York. Henry is still top quality. Marlin is very good quality under Ruger, but more expensive. Belgian quality continues to improve. Glocks have gone downhill as far as fit and finish. Speaking of Finnish, they’ve developed quite a following for their relatively inexpensive, spartan rifles. Swiss and German brands are still solidly well built, many outsource to the American South for labor costs.
