Honestly those are all solid choices. I'd lean toward the Hoka Clifton over the Bondi - the Bondi can feel a bit too cushy for all-day wear, like you're walking on marshmallows. The Clifton hits that sweet spot of cushion without feeling unstable. Brooks Ghost is also a safe bet if you want something more traditional. And yeah don't sweat the sizing thing - tons of dudes rock women's shoes for the better fit, especially with smaller feet. That said, the leather boot comment above has some merit if you're just standing in one spot all day. But if you're actually walking around a lot, I'd stick with the running shoes. Sure, but the people I work with all either wear blundstones or hokka’s. We walk around 15,000-25,000 steps on average. Those two are the common shoe nowadays. My current favorite work shoes are the new resoleable danner 600 gtx. It has a sneaker like midsole that can be replaced and its made (or at least assembled in the usa). Since you're planning on traveling in the near future, I'd suggest getting a good pair of walking / running shoes (Hoka, New Balance, Brooks, etc). They won't be BIFL, but they will definitely come in handy at some point in the future regardless of what state your current shoes are in.

Standing for 10 hours with bunions is brutal, I dealt with similar foot pain for years before discovering IAMBIC (custom dress shoes made from foot scans). For your situation though, you'll want to focus on brands that specifically design for wider fits and all-day comfort. New Balance has some excellent work shoes in their Fresh Foam line that come in multiple width options, and they're built to handle long shifts. Hoka also makes incredibly cushioned shoes that tend to run roomier in the toe box which helps with bunion pressure. Brooks and ASICS both offer wide width options in their walking/work shoe lines too. The key is finding something with a deep toe box and good arch support since you'll be on concrete all day. Just make sure whatever you get has removable insoles so you can add custom orthotics if needed down the road.

Hokas are the move, I think. I worked in a grocery store during Covid, and have flat feet. 1. Find out your pronation. (basically, the way your foot contacts the ground when moving). Most people have neutral, but if you have flat feet, it's usually over-pronation. If you overpronate, get the Hoka Arahi. The number/generation doesn't really matter. Just get the color you like. Older models are usually on sale. If you have neutral, you want the Cliftons, like someone else here mentioned. If you are quite tall, or heavier, get the Bondi (more cushion in the soles. These are the only 3 models, in my opinion, and are by far the most popular. side note: If your heels are still bothering you, you might want stiffer insoles. I know it sounds **counterintuitive**, but the rigidness holds your feet so you don't stand on your heels. The green "Superfeet" brand worked the best for me, and they are pricey, but built like a tank. GL

I also like Hokas, as a runner I’ve haven’t found a shoe more supportive (I have plantar fasciitis). Good tennis shoes are unfortunately designed to be replaced after a certain mileage (like 600 miles) and still come at a hefty price tag. For a hiking shoe that will be supportive and also last a while a recommend Merell. If you want something quality that will be comfy and “durable” a price tag has to reflect that. I’m currently in the market for some red wing iron ranger boots at $350 but I know they will last a very long time and can be resoled.

Hokas or brooks ghost have helped my heel/foot pain. You can find them cheaper and only slightly used on poshmark for a good price..hokas are usually fugly looking but IMO helped tremendously with the heel pain.

Hokas have helped my foot pain a lot, but they're expensive. Do you have okay health insurance? If you can get to a podiatrist they can figure out exactly where the weak points in your feet are and what kind of support will help. Doing that before investing in good sneakers will save you money in the long run. If they recommend physical therapy and your insurance covers it, do it. Even if you have a limited number of sessions, they can teach you useful exercises and do therapies that will lessen the immediate pain. My pt also taught me how to tape my feet for more support, the way gymnasts do. Your podiatrist or PT may also offer you a cortisone shot, and that can really really help in the short term. Lastly, just fyi, foot pain can easily also be caused by tightness or issues in your legs, hips, or lower back. If you have any pain in those areas, or even just muscle tightness or lack of flexibility, make sure to mention it to your doctor or pt!

We have a shoe store called Beck's that has the scanner and several kinds of shoes and inserts. I have plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. My heels and my Achilles are screaming after being on my feet. They fixed me up with a pair of Hokas and a superfeet insert. Also a pair of Aertex flip flops to wear around the house. I am doing so much better. Make sure you go to someone who is knowlegable. Hokas do different things and Superfeet is a really good insert. My biggest problem is pronation and these things all help. I have been to several podiatrists and they honestly don't do as good a job.

hoka, red wing, dansko all get thrown around a lot but tbh it’s less about the brand and more about what the shoe is actually built like. look for good cushioning that doesn’t flatten out, a solid heel counter, a tiny bit of lift in the heel and slip resistant tread (non negotiable on restaurant floors). avoid anything that bends like a slipper if you can fold it in half your feet are gonna hate you by hour 6. also helps to rotate pairs so you’re not beating one down every single day. linking [a list](https://videoguidelines.com/shoes_s_standing) here that has some decent options

A few suggestions: 1) Hoka Recovery 3 slide sandals (I think they’re normally $60 but got them on sale). I’ve had my current pair for like 4 years now and only have mild wear. They’re great because I can slip them on and actually jog in them (usually for dog reasons), but the bottoms just wipe clean so I can wear them inside like slippers without being gross. 2) big bowls to eat out of (great for pasta, salads, popcorn, burrito bowls, etc). 3) my reusable tote (not the grocery store kind that break down, but the packable ones that fold up really small), I got one with a pattern I really like and bring it pretty much everywhere

If you're not putting serious miles on them, a lot of Asics models provide plenty of cushion without bilk and are comfortable for long days (my preference for work shoes as a nurse on my feet for 12-13 hours at a time) but if you're walking serious mileage, you'll want more cushion such as the Hoka Clifton or the Brooks Glycerin, based on my personal experience. I trained and ran many races in Hokas believing that distance running meant I was forced to have blisters no matter what, but I haven't had any since I started running in Brooks Glycerins. Working/ standing in the Hokas was much more comfortable and I'd walk or stand in those all day over the Glycerin, but if I'm running, it is gonna be in Brooks.

Running shoes, or trail runners, that actually fit YOUR feet are the correct and best answer. No they do not last forever. Yes you will be replacing them regularly. That’s because they are a precisely engineered mix of foams and glues. That’s why they work so much better than the infinitely repairable leather shoes. Looks at what every nurse wears (Hoka, Brooks, Altra, & On). Each brand has a different cut and philosophy of the foot as well as different fabric blends and lacing. For me Altra’s wide toe box and zero drop design (even on their foamed up shoes like the Olympus) are the best choice. Others prefer Brooks and Hoka. Tbh I thing On is a little trendy and they often have so much heal they hurt. But your mileage will vary. With all of them plan to replace them every 300-500miles. Most nurses are getting 6 months to a pair of shoes. A small price to pay for improved foot and back health in my book.

Blisters are usually caused by shoes that don't fit well. If you spend a long time on your feet, your feet will also expand, so buying a size larger can also help. Get your feet measured at a running store and see what they recommend. I've been wearing Hokas for a few years now and they've been great for long walks and hikes.

Only footwear that's buy it for life are leather goodyear welt shoes which can be repaired. If you can handle those then great. But what I believe you're really looking for is a running shoe. Try all the popular brands with their high-end soft sole material. Like Adidas ultra boost material, whatever brooks puts in their Glycerin line of shoes, Nike with their zoomX material. Some budget options would be the Hoka Clifton. Consider 'stack height', consider heel-to-toe-drop and consider toe box width. Those are major factors specific to each individual. For hiking I use trail runners, Hoka speedgoat. For running I've been using brooks glycerin. For walking around town I have a bunch of Adidas ultra boost 1.0s. All of which I bought at massive discounts at a dicks warehouse. Check out dicks warehouse or Sierra trading post to get high quality name brand shit for actually significant sales.

Genuinely the best thing you can do is go to a place like Fleet Feet and get your feet measured and analyzed. They'll also be able to tell you if an insole is needed based on how your feet are built and how you walk. That's what I did after years of having foot problems. Turns out I have extremely high arches, hurray for me! As for the shoes, I rock with Hokas. I have a pair of Bondi 9's that I wear with Currex SupportSTP High Arch insoles. The shoes are bulky but they are super comfortable, has a ton of foam but it's stiff enough to give a good amount of support. I'd happily get another pair of Hokas, and probably will. I was also pleased with the Brooks I've owned in the past, they just weren't as good for my feet as the Hokas are.

Soft Spots as sold as Zappos or Comfortiva! They come in W and WW. I have a pair in W and I’m a TRUE REAL 1000% WIDE where normal shoes don’t fit but idk if I’m a WW. Also, I have a pair of Mary Jane’s in wide by Danskos that fit. Other Danskos don’t fit in wide but those Mary Janes do! lululemon shoes last surprisingly long. i have a pair i bought when they first dropped them a few years ago and they look perfect. i much prefer my hokas for my shifts as an RN comfort wise, but if you are not clocking 12k+ steps a day then the lululemon shoes are incredibly durable.

I had some Skechers, they were good. So I ordered two more pairs of EXACTLY the same model. The new pairs arrived. The first lasted 3 months with just a daily walk. The second pair also lasted only 3 months. So they must have changed what they were made of. I switched to New Balance and I've walked 6 months with barely any wear. I'm thinking I was some New Balance or HOKA ones with the thicker cloud-like soles though.

If for fashion and comfort, Hoka or Made in USA/UK New Balances are built well, and the Hoka's in particular are extremely comfortable. ON's are also very comfortable, but I've not worn mine enough to test its lifespan, and they only have a few good looking models. However the more 'comfortable' a shoe is, the more softer and therefore quicker wearing the materials are likely to be. So they won't be a 'BIFL' in that respect. You can get sneaker shoes with higher end materials and build, like with Visvim, but I think that's for a totally different category of buyer. There's also a company called Neutra that are sneakers handmade in France.

My leather shoes and boots are all at 10+ years and in great condition, but I’ve never been able to get more than a few years out of sneakers when worn regularly. I usually rotate between a pair of classic Vans and a pair of Killshots for everyday casual wear. Hokas are probably the next shot for work shoes - curious to see how they hold up against Birkenstocks (chef). I have some Saucony trail runners that have held up really well under a lot of abuse for the last two years and have some mileage left - curious to see how long they last me. Unless I’m buying shoes for work, I refuse to pay full retail price in the US for shoes. I highly recommend everyone checks out r/frugalmalefashion. Some stud over there has been posting a shoe sale roundup every Sunday for years. It has pretty much become my single source for all shoe purchases and it’s saved me a ton of money on shoes I actually want. You just have to be patient and diligent in checking.

I'm on my second pair of Hokas. I'm quite hard on shoes and they've lasted the longest, by far. Rather than going for a particular style, visit a shoe store that specializes in foot and gait analysis. Let them choose the particular model for you, then you can choose a style within that model -- they usually have 3-4 options. It will make your feet so much more comfortable and lead to more even wear on the shoes.

Hokas are comfortable no doubt but for heavy walkers, they don’t last any longer than a 70 dollar pair of asics. For me, about 8 months before I burn a hole in the sole of either. What I’m trying now is the “alternate shoes” method. I bought two pairs and rotate them. It’s supposed to extend their life by more than just double.

I cannot say they are bifl but really enjoying Hokas at the moment. Developed plantar fasciitis over the last year and the Bondi model has helped tremendously. Bought two pairs while on sale and rotate them so they last longer. I previously really liked Mizuno - specifically the Wave Prophecy model, but I think this last pair contributed to my plantar issues. Over the years though, they have always held up really well.

What are the best shoes for standing all day?
I like the Bondis. Those are (IIRC) the most cushioned line. I would try to try some on in a store before you order them; some people like the next step down in cushioning, which is, I think, the Clifton. Hoka also has professional shoes that are all-leather and puncture-proof (important for nurses) and non-slip. You can do the shoe-finder thing on Hoka and get an idea of what might work best for you. Still, I would reiterate to try them on first in a store if you possibly can. Hoka has a good return policy if you can't. Oh--one thing I forgot: when I first tried on Hokas, I was almost 100 lbs overweight. That's why I went with the most cushioned ones. Now that I've lost 80 lbs, I'm still happy with the Bondis, but I'm thinking my next pair might be a little less cushiony and lean more toward extra stability, because my stride has changed.

+1 for Darn Tough. For work, I walk around 8k-10k steps daily in trainers, and only had one pair had a hole. Warranty claim isn’t an issue. Going on 5+ years so far. However I do trim my toe nails often, wash them by putting them in a laundry bag, And very low dryer heat cycle. I think people should be using laundry bags more, since I feel and experience that my clothes last much longer. Separate bags for shirts, underwear, socks, etc. and don’t put way too much in each bag. About a week worths is good for my usage. In addition, I found that I was wearing improper fitting shoes and switched to wide feet sizing shoes. Went from Nike and Adidas, to New Balance wide/x-wide, Hoka, On Cloudtilt

Looking for durable mens shoes
Sneakers are really only good for 4-500 miles. Depending on factors, I’m super cheap, so I typically wear them until the bottom tread starts to go. I like Hoka’s, (wearing those now) and my last pair was Brooks. I worked on a political campaign last year and was canvassing neighbourhoods everyday, from June through the last week of October. My Brooks held up quite well. But the tread was almost completely gone by the end.

This is actually something I’m an ‘expert’ on just from so much personal experience. As long distance runner and former infantryman who has tried damn near every shoe, boot, insole, and sock you could imagine, (I’ve literally spent thousands on this) and also dealt with just about every common foot issue you can imagine, I’ve come to learn that everyone has different shoe/sock/boot preferences which they swear by, because everyone’s feet are sooo different.This is because there are so many different parts of foot which that make them unique - supination/pronation, toe length and really the geometry of every bone in your foot varies from person to person, foot width, fat padding depth, etc etc. I could give a whole spiel on all of the factors from everything I’ve learned, but the key takeaway from this bit is that there is TONS of variation. I’m saying all of this to give support to this recommendation: TLDR: Go to a running shoe store such as Fleet Feet and try on as many shoes the worker helping you there will bring out for you. You don’t need to be a runner to get good shoes from those places, they will have tons of options well suited for walking as well. Most of those running shoe stores will do some type of measurement/analysis on your feet and your gait to help you find a good match. Tbh those analysis are probably 50% snake oil gimmicks, but it does work. I would also recommend getting custom insoles from them as well. Don’t feel pressured into buying it then and there, you can go to other stores and try on shoes there as well if nothing there is suiting you. The most important thing is finding a shoe that works well for you. The other really important thing to prevent foot pain is the physical therapy side of things. You can do simple, easy exercises sitting/standing still that will help you tremendously. Look up “Squat University” on YouTube and search for his foot related vids, he’s a physical therapist who gives amazing insight, PT exercises and how to do them, and is easy to understand as a layman. He talks a lot about regaining toe splay which is super important for foot function, and unfortunately the vast majority of people have lost due to the fact that almost all shoes have way too narrow of a toe box. The analogy is that we have been doing something akin to Chinese foot binding for our entire lives by using these modern shoe designs and have thus wrecked our foot physiology. Just to touch on my experience with some of the brands I’ve seen mentioned in the comments or that I have experience with worth mentioning: Hoka: definitely the softest feeling sole I’ve run in. However, and you may not experience this only walking, but it wore down quickly and also felt like it lost its ‘bounce’ relatively quickly; within 300 miles or so. It felt a bit like running on sand after that point. Wasn’t a huge fan tbh, but again, they might suit you perfectly, it’s impossible for me to say either way. Brooks: good feeling shoes that gives a lot of stability and support to your entire foot. Some would argue that this can be worse for you in the long run since your feet start to conform to and thus rely on the support/structure provided by the shoe, instead of allowing your feet to build the muscles and shape to function properly. Merrells: the ones I’ve used have been relatively comfy for me, but very narrow, especially in the toe box. Wouldn’t recommend them if you are looking for something wider. Altra: Not sure if anyone has called out altra yet, but these are marketed as having a very wide toe box, which they do. I have a pair of their hiking shoes and boots, and the boots are my favorite I’ve ever owned for when I want something light weight. As far as boots go (just in case you were looking for boots as well) Danner: the ones I’ve used have a nice wide toe box, a flat and thin sole, and very little support. However, I find them super comfy, almost like wearing moccasins, where it feels like there’s nothing on your feet because they have so much freedom of movement, if that makes sense. I actually ended up doing most of SFAS in these (which I would NOT recommend due to them not having a lot of sole padding/thickness) due to my other boots tearing, but I survived. Garmont: the ‘NFS’ model were the go-to uniform compliant boots for almost everyone for a while especially for things like rucking. I’ve noticed a lot of the combat arms type folks using a different new boot now though, but can’t remember what they are at the moment. Lowa: my favorite heavier duty boot for doing things that benefit from having a thick sole and a lot of support. They are very comfortable for me. However, they are relatively narrow and have a narrow toe box though, I have a narrow foot and I wear the wide versions. I have wide feet and high arches. I wear New Balance 880 v15 (wide) with Currex Run Pro inserts . I wear these for running/walking, but that combo would also work for standing. The best wide fit shoes imo are New Balance, Brooks, ASICS, Hoka and Karhu. You should really try a bunch on because fit varies so much. I go to a place called Fleet Feet and they do a scan of your feet and use that as a starting point. I highly suggest doing this. Just google "running shoe store" and I'm sure you can find a similar shop in your area.

If the lining on the pull tab/achilles protector/heel/(whatever it’s called) of a sneaker is ripped will it deteriorate socks faster?
This feels like a really weird area to consistently wear down on every pair of sneakers you have. I don’t even know if having a problematic gait could cause this, might just be a run of bad luck. I did have the same happen to one pair of Hokas. The issue I found with the inner liner tearing at the heel, was the semi-rigid heel counter felt more noticeable when walking, and made the shoes slightly more uncomfortable. Other than that, I can’t see it being a major issue. You could look at sticking a thin adhesive heel pad in that area to increase the lifespan before the inner liner tears.

On the website, it mentions that it’s “limited warranty” and it covers up to one year… although when I reached out, my purchase was well over 1 year! When I back my shoe, I definitely did my best to clean it up and make it nice (so they wouldn’t be touching dirty shoes) and I did say I was very unhappy that the shoe stretched out after a couple years because I’ve never had that happen before and I would like to continue wearing their brand because I really do believe in their product! Before I submitted my warranty in 2024, I also looked around on TikTok and other people mentioned they sent their shoe back for warranty claims just from wear and tear (which is actually not covered by their warranty) on top of the fact that they submitted it after 1 year of purchase and they still got a free pair sent to them! I guess it’s a case by case situation, but I’m assuming HOKA really cares about building their consumer base!

I bought my hokas in 2022 and I wore them everyday for 12 hour shifts and they finally broke down after 2 years. Mind you, they were bright WHITE and they still looked new and feel new with monthly TLC of washing. I was unsatisfied after 2 years of wear because they stretched out a little and no longer fit… so I reached out to HOKAS through their website and submitted a warranty claim to get another pair! They didn’t question anything and they sent me a FREE NEW pair of the exact model and color! I’m on the 2nd pair and it’s currently 2025. Best shoe I’ve ever purchased for the price, comfort, and quality!

I do not consider any shoes BIFL. I’ve got foot issues, and really only got one set of those so I need to take care of them. The reality is that even good shoes wear out, and trying to wear them past their exportation date is only going to cause me more issues in the long run. I will say that with foam-y shoes like oofos or hoka slides, they’ll last way longer if you get two pairs and switch between them.

I really love the Hoka Bondi SR, which is their line for kitchen workers, healthcare workers, etc. The slip resistant sole is amazing. You can even feel it grip on ice in the winter. Make sure you try them on first though. Imo they run kind of narrow and I had to spring for the wide variant.

I blast through my hokas, i don’t know how nurses do it. I’m a heel striker and they begin to wear in a couple months. Everyone I know says that it’s worth breaking in a pair of dansko shoes. My actual suggestion is this: get two pairs. I find that when I’m standing all day, and I’ve compressed down to a pain point in my feet/back, what I really need is a *different* shoe. That way I can have the sensation of a fresh support. And I can prevent any blisters or wear issues. Or perhaps something more structured for the start of your shift, and something more cushy for the end?

None are BIFL, but my personal favorites are Hokas. I love my Hokas, and I am also in a job that needs me on my feet all day. My shoes are wrecked in a year so take that as you will. But given the shit ton of OT I do and the sheer amount of physical work I do, I will vouch for them being comfortable and long lasting.

Do you walk and/or stand all day right now? What pain do you experience now and where? Do you have a neutral or metatarsal arch? For me personally, running shoes suck for standing all day. I have 2 styles of Hokas. I wear the Clifton 9 casually and when I go for my walks. I wear the Bodhi 9 shoes at conferences when I’m standing a lot.

I think the Merrell moab 3 mid is one of the best value boots out there. If you want something better and also more expensive than check out Hoka Kaha 2 GTX. They are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn.

Tbh I'd get 5 pairs of the hokas do it slow fast whatever works for you and rotate. They'll eventually wear out just is the case but even ignoring the medical issues being comfortable and not having back pain is worth 150 every 7 months. If you're not getting paid enough to make that much stress on ypur body worth it fuckin quit tbh

Ladies, what are the MOST comfortable boots you’ve worn for walking 10k+ steps a day?
I get on average 15,000 steps five days a week. The only shoes that have been good to me with no ankle or knee pain (I'm 43) have been hideous Hoka. Timberland work boots were ok but didn't last enough walking miles. Docs are great but you already mentioned them. Again Hoka are so ugly but I'm getting ready to buy my second pair, which is not buy it for life but as someone told me in this sub I'm going to have to sacrifice something and my joints isn't it.

My experience is that BIFL boots are not going to be the ones that are comfortable to be walking in all day. My BIFL boots are Daytons and they are fantastic and pretty comfortable but not meant for long-distance walking. My most comfortable walking boots are Hoka Kaha GTX hiking boots, they are supremely comfortable, I'm on my 4th year with them although full disclosure I had to re-seal the seams to re-waterproof them after two years.

I like Hokas or Asics. I wear my hokas every day for every activity. They've lasted me two years so far. For Asics, I used to run 3-5 miles 5 days a week. They lasted me a solid year. I only replaced them because it was expected to in my sport. I'm not sure you should buy them second hand. Sneakers wear down over time.

Running shoes are not BIFL as shoes need to be replaced every several kilometers due to wear. For comfort, especially for walking, look into Hoka Bondis. I'd trust a chiropodist's opinion too. The one I see recommends shoes from Asics, on, and Hoka.

What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?
Benchmade for knives! Quite expensive but quality & their lifetime sharpening warranty is sweet! Subaru for car. Same amazing longevity as Toyotas, more premium materials at a fraction of the price. Le Creuset for cooking. Again, pricey but last for generations if maintained. Hoka for shoes. I had a pair of their hiking boots I wore religiously (live in the PNW. Hiking everywhere). They lasted me 6+ years without a single hole, worn inside or rubber coming apart. Only reason I ditched them is because I wore the lugs down to nothing!!

Also, if you do go to a running shoe store (like, actual running shoes, not just a bit of everything), they can let you try several brands. I once wore worn-out Shape-ups to the grocery store and the whole sole peeled off in the produce aisle—awkward doesn’t even cover it! For shoes that might actually hold up (and coddle hardware in your foot), you could check out Hoka or Altra. They’re known for extra cushioning and roomy fits.

HOKA and Dansko would be my recommendations. Dansko has been a staple for food industry workers for many years. I wear HOKAs daily and they are super comfortable. It’s worth the extra cost to take care of your feet when you have to be on them all day long.

Hokas aren’t the prettiest, you can get some nice looking ones that aren’t super chunky. However! The chunky ones literally reversed my plantar facitis, and I was a good runner walking catering trays to tables for 300 cover nights at a country club, I would put 12k steps a day in them and they have barely shown wear and I still use them on walks. They have the most cushion I have ever had in a pair of shoes. Probably run you $90-150 Also recommend ASICS too, pretty comfy if you get the right pair and they break in a little, but I wore them until they fell apart. Last pair I bought was like $35 from a Big 5. Not really a buy for life. That being said the only shoes I really think fits the BIFL metric are boots, and shoes that can be resolved.

I’ve been exceptionally happy with my Hoka Clifton 8’s. I think the latest model (9) is out now. They seem to have a bit more cushion than any other brand I have tried. Had them for a couple of years now, but do not nearly get as many steps in a day as you do.

It's ok to have sports sneakers like Hoka, Nike, etc if you're going to walk a lot. Want to be more European? Go Adidas, Puma or On. But if the "average" American tourist wants to go unnoticed in Europe then better also change clothes to European style (buy them there though). To be honest you're going to end up in touristic areas anyway so you'll be noticed anyway. And in those touristic areas just don't give to beggars, don't sign any paper in the street, beware roms, scammers, watch your pockets, etc. Touristic areas are not like the real life areas. And that's also valid for local tourists.

As a wedding photographer that has to be on my feet for 12 hours and moving fast. I liked Sketchers. The other issue like are Hokas that I actually took on a trip to EU last summer. We biked and hiked all over. I brought them back, gave them a wash with my loundry and they look brand new. I also like a decent set of inserts that helps with arch support. But that's just me.

On clouds and hokas are awesome. I use to swear by all birds but they changed their manufacturing a few years ago and I have not bought a pair since. Just terrible. No sure is truly buy it for life. Another suggestion is oofos recovery slides. I ran a half marathon and walked Disney in those after.

No the more you walk or run in a single pair, the less they will keep. NB and Hoka can last 6-8 months with a lot of usage as an all day shoe but not all weather. Though I think Hoka now has a shoe that is like a croc and is better for rain/water. Swapping through the day can dramatically extend life and make your feet feel better. And not wearing the wrong shoe depending on what your doing obviously helps. Nike, Adidas, Jordan, Reebok, Converse, Vans, Timberlands, whatever you see as a trend or style shoe is likely shit. Seen soles come off more shoes than I can count. They are made for Instagram or your storage shelf.

Not sure about your husband's size, but mine is 6'4" 315lbs and hates both on clouds and new balance. They don't give him the support he needs for his frame. He absolutely loves his Hokas. He has had a pair of the Bondis with aftermarket insoles for over a year now and swears by them. They've held up a hell of a lot better than his on clouds.

Shoes aren't bifl or even buy it for a long time. The foam compresses and shoes comfortable for walking have very thin rubber grips on the bottom (to maximize the foam for a comfy ride). For long walks in the park regularly, expect to replace the shoes at least every 2 years, possibly every 1 year. Also, if it's a daily shoe, you may want to consider two pairs - one good running/walking shoe and one good casual everyday. Because of the amount of foam in running/walking shoes, they wear a lot faster. A good sneaker would be better for your running errands and will allow your expensive running/walking shoes to last a lot longer. I would recommend New Balance over Cloud on. Also look at Brooks, Asics, and Hoka. If you can go to a shoe store that does fittings you can usually explain to them what your intent for the shoes are and they are usually good with suggesting the best shoe for your use case.
