  best dehumidifier for small apartment?

  Just be aware that coverage area listed by models is inaccurate and should be halved (at least). Most Chinese-made models are good enough so look for price, coverage and some features that you want. Check the website called Air Conditioner Lab, and on their homepage they have a dehumidifiers spreadsheet which I used to compare models before buying. I have a Homelabs and I liked the balance of size, efficiency, and price.

  800‑sq‑ft models dont actually cover this range as its more if a best case scenario. Small units often struggle to actually reduce humidity, so look for 50+ PPD (pints per day), that’s the real measure of how effective a dehumidifier is, not just the “coverage area” they advertise. Air Conditioner Lab website has a dehumidifier comparison sheet on their homepage that compares all models. It helped me figure out energy use, capacity, and the size of model before I bought. I ended getting a homelabs 50 pint for a similar size to you.

  For stainless steel, skip the sensor style ones, they usually stop responding or get sticky. The pedal ones (like from homelabs) last longer and are easier to keep clean since there’s less moving parts. They help with tighter kitchen spaces becs they open inward. Whichever you go for, line the inside rim with a simple bag ring or binder clips so you can still use your costco bags without them slipping in.

  Dehumidifier quit on me

  Before retiring, I tested appliances for nearly 3 decades. The lifespan of the average dehumidifier is about three years, so unfortunately, your experience is not abnormal. We have a 70 pt. HomeLabs 3000 sq. model for our basement. We are on year floor and it has served us very well. Fingers crossed😃

  Quietest but GOOD dehumidifier?

  i've tried a few different dehumidifiers over the years, and the [homelabs 3500 sq ft dehumidifier](https://ehomebusinessreviews.com/dp-B08MWQSGQ5) model has been surprisingly quiet for its size. Note i didnt say it is completely silent - but for the size it covers - the QUIETEST i've come across so far. My basement would turn into a swamp every summer until i got a serious unit - what i like about this one is that it has a pump so you can set up continuous drainage without having to empty the bucket constantly (which was my biggest annoyance with cheaper models). it's not completely silent (none of them are), but it's more of a white noise hum than the rattling monstrosity i had before. i usually run it on the low setting which is quiet enough that you barely notice after a day or two. build quality seems decent - i've had mine running pretty much non-stop in humid months for over a year and it's still pulling about 2-3 gallons daily from my basement without issues. the digital controls are basic but they do the job, and it automatically shuts off when it hits your humidity target which helps with the electric bill.

  there could be a couple of reasons as to why this is happening but its most likely due to a leakage in the refrigerant part. now this has nothing to do with how careful you are with the appliance and just entirely depends on the manufactured quality. what you could do is a humidifier with contionous drainage so that your compressor doesnt cycle repeatedly. You basically need to not let your compressor put in the extra work, so get one that has a timer and filters that are easy to clean. this would take away from the pressure on the machine.   Quietest but GOOD dehumidifier?

  I'd recc this one by HomeLabs for 2 solid reasons: 1) It’s surprisingly quiet for the power it packs, runs at around 49 dB, which is about as loud as a soft conversation or a quiet fridge. Def won’t bleed into your recordings or distract you while mixing, even during long sessions. Still, for critical listening, you might wanna keep it just outside your studio door or in a nearby hallway so it can still dehumidify the space without being in mic range. 2) Has a built-in pump and a long drain hose, so you can set it to auto-drain into a sink or out a window, perfect for that bathroom with no fan. The digital controls and LED display make it easy to monitor and adjust the humidity (shoot for 45–50% to keep mold at bay).

  It probably had a freon leak. You could try recharging the refrigerant, but that is quite difficult to do on a dehumidifier. As for the quietest units. On paper, Homelabs units are the quietest, with a 33 dB range. But Fridigidaire units are also fairly quiet at 40 dB on paper. I recommend checking out this huge dehumidifier comparison sheet. It lists almost all of the brands and their models. Go through the data and find one that is reputable and has the longest warranty.   BEST Dehumidifier today?

  Hey omg i just came across this other [post on the best dehumidifiers](https://www.reddit.com/r/HelpMeBuyTheBest/comments/1ityvsu/who_knew_humidity_was_so_scary/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) and they mentioned the homelabs one too, do you like it so far? Im considering buying one because this post really convinced me that the mold in my house will destroy me and so i really need one. I like the other ones they’ve mentioned too and so im still debating if anyone has tried them let me know so i can get the best one too!

  Well, on paper, at least hOmelabs units seem to be fairly quiet. However, you can find some that reach around 33-35 db from brands like Pro Breeze, SimSen, XPower, and more. You should note that the noise you perceive also depends upon where exactly the dehumidifier is placed. If you place it too close to yourself, the perceived noise will obviously be loud. Hence, positioning matters. In any case, I recommend you go through this huge database of all the dehumidifier models. It’s a great sheet for starters, as it highlights almost all of the models with their specs.
