I never thought they were buy it for life----but in the old days, speakers, microphones, wired headphones of good quality lasted and lasted now---ear buds, wireless headphones--not going to last long. No vehicle is BIFL, but between my wife and myself we’ve had 10 Honda vehicles over 26 years. During that time we only had one issue, a steering wheel click on a Ridgeline. Zero powertrain problems. I have no reason to look at anything else.

But you can't flat tow the Corsair. Escape and Maverick are the only hybrids I'm aware of that can be flat towed. Or the Honda HR-V manual transmission hybrid, but those are rare.

Been driving the Honda Jazz (Fit depending on region) for over 10 years now. Affordable, decent mileage, great boot space for a hatchback, surprisingly decent legroom in the backseat, immaculate handling. It was way ahead of its competitors at the time (within the segment). I couldn’t be happier with the purchase a decade ago.

I love my Honda Fit. If you don't care about speed or impressing anyone, I think you'll love it. Great mileage. Decent handling. Cheap, so nobody wants to steal it. Can haul very huge dogs with no issue. I don't know if they're still being made?

A pre-owned or certified pre-owned Honda fit could be a good option. Good gas mileage and the seats in the back fold down completely flat which will help with transporting large dogs. My parents go everywhere with the dogs in their fit. I love my own fit as well.

If you want reliability, Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 are the go to choices. You could also look at Lexus and Mazda. I tried the Honda and Toyota and ended up with a 2021 CRV (partly because I’m 6’4” and found it a much more comfortable size for me).

What brands/products do you AVOID because of their poor longevity?
I disagree, I think generally modern cars are more reliable than they were decades ago. You could argue they peaked 10 years ago and there’s been some decline in reliability from some brands, but a modern Toyota or Honda can still outlast almost anything from decades past. Domestic brands have certainly faltered in recent years, but the reliable cars they made in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s were always the exceptions and likely examples of survivorship bias. My family is very Lexus/Toyota loyal and I’ve seen several of our cars cross 250,000-300,000 miles with almost exclusively basic routine maintenance.

A Toyota and a Honda. Literally never think about those cars other than sit inside turn key and drive. Had two peugeots that never game me a full semester without visiting the shop for physical replacement of breaking parts. My driving did not change, the brands made the difference.

People laugh at my 2001 Honda insight but I see no reason it can’t be my daily driver for at least the next 20 years. 65mpg, manual transmission, very simple car. A friend of mine has one with 503k miles on the original engine. Mine only has 257k.

I mean I did expect our Honda Odyssey to perform about as well as it does. 11 years old, couple times we’ve had $3k mechanic bills, but one was the timing belt replacement at 100k miles and the others I think were all related to the fact that it doesn’t rain here for 8-10 months out of the year so rubber dries out and falls apart. Friends of ours gave us a Hello Kitty toaster when we got married and it lasted like 10 years. Granted we never really made a whole lot of toast, but we did use it. Probably not BIFL because it’s a modern appliance and they don’t last anymore, but getting an induction stove was the best thing I’ve done for the kitchen for a long time. 5 quarts of water boil in under 10 minutes. My wide-bottomed teakettle shrieks in about one minute. I fucking love induction. My only complaint would be that drying my cast iron on the stove takes like 10 minutes because iron is such a terrible conductor that the sides don’t heat up for what feels like forever. Boo hoo.

Honda Fit is for life
I loved my 2001 Honda Civic. It had a little over 400000 miles on it when i got rid of it. It had its issues like an occasional missfire and a transmission that started slipping on a little on 3rd geard. But, it had good gas mileage, and it was fun to drive. The only reason why i did get rid of it was because the alternator went up, and i was gifted a 2009 Honda Civic with 50k miles.

My 2013 Fit is still going strong. I bought it when my kids were toddlers and now they are grown. My son drove it and now it is my daughter's daily driver. Only ever have needed the oil changed and AC repaired once. My mom still drives her 2001 Honda Accord every day. She has never needed any repairs at all except for very minor ones (ignition switch/hose). Needs a paint job but still runs like a top.

I’m shopping for a car. I won’t be ready to trade for about another 2 months but I’ve started looking. Last weekend I made an appointment to go to the Enterprise lot and see what they had. I saw a VW Tiguan on the lot and asked about it. The very helpful guy said that VWs quality has really declined in the last couple of years and he doesn’t really recommend them anymore because they’re not as dependable as they used to be. So I’ve narrowed it down to Honda, Nissan, or Mitsubishi.

Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura are consistently the most reliable cars. If you take care of them they can last 30+ years. If you have the means, buy outright. Another trick is to look for salvage titles and find out why they were salvaged. You can nock 20-30% off the price for a minor fender bender. Run from anything with water damage (flood salvage). Tips: 0) Figure out what car you want and just google for common issues. 1) Ask for a maintenance history of the car. And see if those issues were serviced. 2) Run a carfax on the car to check for major crashes/flood damage. 3) Find a reputable repair shop in your area and pay the 100-200 for an inspection. It will normally pay for it's self. 4) Check the tires to make sure they don't need to be replaced.

Toyota or Buick to drive for many years
Buick is a part of GM. GM and Buick have been around for a long time but their reliability has never been anything to rave about aside from a few vehicles over the years. Toyota isn’t as reliable as it was in the past but it’s still the kink of reliability with Honda being a really close runner up. When buying any car do more frequent maintenance then what is recommended these days.

1997 Honda Civic I bought for $1200 in 2007. Drove it almost 16 years. Got rid of it Not because it doesn’t work. After getting stolen and recovered 3 times I realized I was a target for some thief. Sold it to a cousin. He’s still driving it. With about 325k miles on it. The Ac is about to go. I may buy it back someday.

Pressure Washer Reqs?
If you want a gasoline Pressure washer get one with a Honda motor and a decent pump, some good ones are AR and CAT but they tend to cost more. If you just need a light duty pressure washer for washing cars and stuff get an electric Pressure washer from craftsman or Ryobi, they should have a warranty if it breaks. Hot Pressure washers can be 1000s, only used in commercial work, so not needed unless you use it everyday or do work.

Disaster preparedness that actually is useful
Not enough information to give definitive advice so I'll tell you what we do. I have several 2000 mAh power banks to keep personal electronics including phones charged. I have a 5 kW generator for sump pumps, chest freezer, kitchen fridge freezer, some lights, Internet, well pump, and fans. If you don't have sump pumps and chest freezer and are on utility water you can likely make do with one of the great little Honda generators. Mine is not wired in - I have labeled extension cords for the important loads. Get ethanol free gas for your generator. I have a couple of propane heaters for winter. We have electric cooking but can make just about anything on our barbecue grill. We also have a butane catering burner and plenty of fuel. We have lost power for several days a number of times. Three days without power is not enough to evacuate for unless there is some safety issue as well. We can run a week without having to refuel. A month without outside food although veg would get boring. Pretty much all emergency management information is faster on phone notifications than radio. Radio in your car is helpful. Remember that radio stations love to make things worse than they seem as getting listeners sells advertising. A radio that receives National Weather Radio [https://www.weather.gov/nwr/](https://www.weather.gov/nwr/) is good to have. Gas stations need power to pump fuel so I top up everything when see weather coming in. We look at food also. Make ice. Almost always not needed but the practice is good for you.

A mower with a flat head Briggs and Stratton is a good used option. New Briggs and Stratton aren’t serviceable…no oil drain, one piece plastic filter/intake/carburetor. Mowers with Honda engines are good. Harbor Freight sells Honda clones that are decent.

1.) A Martin acoustic guitar. Old, used or new. They hold their value and get better with age. Buy once cry once 2.) Good pair of leather boots. Love my Thorogood Moc-Toes 3.) Craftsman tools. All the ones I have are hand me downs that are 20+ years old but work great. Pretty sure they could be swapped out if they get broken but haven’t had an issue after 10 years of abuse 4.) My 2002 Toyota Corolla that we bought back in 2002 just passed 450,000 km and is still going strong
I have lovingly, and with no regrets, dragged a ford station wagon through 20 years. Full inspection and proper maintenance every 6 months. I've replaced things like the ac, the steering column, and various suspension parts. My long time mechanic who is not a body person (and also my genuine friend at this point), has learned a number of body skills on this car. All totally worth it and still cheaper than car payments. Meanwhile, my partner's 15 year old toyota chugs along good as new despite a barbaric level of 'basic' maintenance. I spent so much time just convincing them to do a yearly oil change and buy some decent tires and rims. It makes me so MAD every time I get in it and it drives like a dream. Meanwhile, the ford that I babied like my first born (though it's a model that doesn't even deserve it) has finally jalopped it's last jaloppy breath and I'm out looking at new cars. Buy a Toyota, just don't buy one with a turbo right now. They've worked out a lot of kinks on the hybrids now though. I'm going to go with Honda, because I can't stand toyota seating. It's the only thing they get consistently wrong - and that's not just me.

The cheapest Admiral washer/dryer combo you can get. Mine were $350 apiece, the washer body needs replacing due to rust but it's going strong 15 years later and they still make the same model and have barely raised the price. $400 for 15 years of washing is a no-brainer.

When I was 15 I had scored high enough on the ACT to get a scholarship so my parents let me pick out a car with my college fund. They took me to the Honda/Toyota lot and I picked the first little red coupe I saw. 2012 Honda Civic. I turn 29 this year and have 1000% outgrown it and want all the new gadgets desperately but it still runs well and gets me from point A to point B so I really can’t justify getting a new car.

I was driving it home and it was in kilometers, I changed it to mph and the odometer went down to 93,000 miles. The odometer had been reading kilometers and that’s what the price was based on.

Other than replacing a dead ignition coil at 17 years old, it's still works flawlessly with no repairs. Still on the original blade and belt. 1999 Honda Accord LX 4 cyl 5 speed manual built in Japan. Bought new and still the daily driver. 1984 Toyota truck my dad bought new and passed down to me in 1996. Other than regular scheduled maintenance, it has only had a water pump, clutch, and clutch master cyl replaced. I like my Niwaki secateurs a lot (I got the sharpening stone as well but I haven’t used it yet - should probably do that this weekend) and I like their shovels more than any other brand. I used to be a landscaper so I’ve used a lot of shovels and the Niwaki is my favorite. I have the short and the tall lengths of pointed shovel (the gold ones). Fiskars loppers have been fine for me. Some no-name heavy duty garden fork I found at a thrift store has been my favorite thing recently. We have a Stihl weedeater and an old Honda mower and both are good.

I bought my Honda element new in early 2006, it was a 2005 model with less than 30 miles on it. I’ve been lucky to have short commutes for most of my career, now 20 years later, it’s has about 150k miles, and hasn’t smelled right since I had to drive 250 miles with no AC in the California summer, but it’s mine and I love it. I’ll never feel that comfortable in a car again. Thankfully other than a great deal of wear and tear, it’s going strong (knock on wood). I’ve had several offers to buy it in the past, but while I may not be a gear head, I know what I like. And that car has been a quality automobile.

funny. My goodwill brother B&W printer is one as well. And I recently got the vitamix kaboodle. I buy merrells. They last forever. I buy good power tools despite rarely using them so they'll last decades. I buy name brand led bulbs and they last eons. I can't think of anything else on the spot but seriously it pays sometimes to get good stuff. Especially if you can get it secondhand in good condition. I guess one example is my honda crv I got 5 years ago. Still drives like new and I only have tires coming up at 50k miles. And it will drive on for years.

Best generator to buy for my situation?
That'll get you quite a bit actually, including some high grade components. Honda and Briggs & Stratton have commercial grade motors, the GX and Vanguard series respectively. High end alternator ends are typically Mecc Alte. You can't really get better, period. $3000 will get you up into the 6500W to 7000W area for output. You're going to see a lot of generators with pretty high ratings. Be aware that there is one unmistakable truth with generator power. Your kilowatt output will always be AT MOST 1/2 the HP rating of the motor. A 10 HP motor will produce 5kW of output, max. Any rating above this is 100% BS. The most efficient motor and the most efficient gen end gets you to 1/2. Worse products do worse. Engine displacement (their CC sizing) is a rough indicator of power, although companies like Honda will produce more HP with their GX engines that nearly every other brand and at most sizes of motor. The HP difference can actually be quite a bit too between a really good brand and some cheap brand for a given CC size. Honda engines are quite efficient. B&S Vanguard engines are very good too, although generally slightly lower in power. However, they tend to have fewer long term issues overall with years of use, but they're basically equal in terms of lasting a long, long time. In most cases you just go Honda as they tend to make a little more power for the size.

A Honda generator are really good and reliable and it has true sine wave power. But perhaps all you really need is a power station. Bluetti or Ecoflow are recommended brands with LiFePO₄ (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery. Depends on what model you get, but a 1,800w one can power a full size 120w fridge for 7 hours. It’s clean no noise power that you can also take camping to power stuff.

Push Mower in the EU
If you can buy a secondhand 1980's Honda HR 194, (HR 214 & 216 are probably great too). Those machines are bomb proof. Newer lawnmowers don't compare imo. Only problem I've had with it is fuel can go off in the carbeurator if left sitting for the winter, so before putting it away for winter I shut off the fuel valve to the carbeurator and let it run until it cuts out (uses up all fuel in the carb).

With tariffs driving up the cost of new vehicles, the price of used is skyrocketing with them. $5k won't get you much, sadly. Without knowing your needs, I'd stick to brands known for their longevity, durability, and ease of maintenance (e.g. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, etc.).

If your '89 is anything like Mom and Dad's 4-cyl '86, it's time to do three things: 1) replace your distributor, 2) replace the ignition switch where you put the key in, and 3) get a 'hose kit' and have a mechanic replace all of the hoses, including the little 1" ones that can develop pinholes. Other than that, with regular maintenance, you should be good to go!

I almost bought a Honda (I drove used Hondas exclusively from 2010-2020) but every dealership was offering a quarter for my traded in. The maintenance can get pretty price for Subarus which is why I drive an hour away for better prices. I also usually do a lot of it myself (oil changes, tires, etc) but I'm not equipped to do an engine rebuild. I will say that outside of the rebuild my Subaru never had any other issues. The cause for a rebuild was a 1/100000 fluke and if it wasn't due to the previous damage from the wreck I would have paid for a new engine.

I liked the space and 4x4 of my old Tahoe but I hated the fuel mileage. Would take it to the coast and with the family and everything fit inside. Same with going up into the mountains at winter. We got a wrx as a second vehicle and family fit inside but needed the roof storage for trips because everything wouldn't fit in the trunk and inside. I'm a 41 yo male and told my new wife (remarried someone with kids as well) we should get a minivan instead of another suv. She could have my accord and I'd drive a sienna or odyssey without a problem

I think it is still the case. I have literally never owned a new car, bought 10-15 yr old ones with 125k miles. Get a Toyota or Honda or Acura or a Mazda. Something with a reliable engine. I mean I have bought a truck for $1500 bucks and 200k miles that went another 80k miles with only another $1500 put into it. That's a 03 f150. You will always have to do maintenance. It's worth it to buy a Prius that's even got a dead hybrid battery and paying 2k to replace because it's cheaper than a 30k Prius. Depreciation is so high on a new car purchase that you might as well buy two used cars and just assume one will die.

If you do it right your car can be basically free. I bought a Honda CR-V with 260,000 miles on it, drove it for another 100,000, and then sold it for more than I paid for it. My brother did the same thing with a Camry, someone else I know did it with an old Hyundai... If you aren't one of those fools who thinks that their car is literally a part of their personality, you can drive any old vehicle and save hundreds of thousands of dollars over your lifetime. New cars are expensive and generally more expensive than most people can afford, but they do it anyway because it's a status symbol. Break free of that and spend money on things that are actually worth it!

My husband's car got side swiped/turned into back in Jan 2020 and the rear drivers side door was pushed in, the door frame was okay, but the door was technically "closed" and had a like 2in gap at the top. We already knew we were going to get another car, but we needed his car to be usable in the interim and it was gonna rain, said screw it, and used flex tape to seal the door. That stuff literally bonded to the damn car and made a completely waterproof seal. He ended up getting another car a month later, didn't trade in the CRV, then covid happened, so it sat in a parking spot for a while cause we didn't really know what to do with it. 9 months later our neighbor asks if he can buy it for his daughter as her 1st car since his son is a mechanic and can fix it, sold it for cheap cause we like the kid. The flex tape was on the car for like 16 months and water never got in. When our neighbor replaced the door, the tape left adhesive residue or took off the paint on the top of the car, it's still there years later. When they bought the car it had 250k+ miles on it and the kid is still driving it. I guess the moral of the story is Hondas are BIFL lol

Self-propelled mower?
1-2 acres with a push mower sounds brutal. Would you consider a ride-on? If push mower is a must, grab a Honda before they’re gone. Specifically the HRX217HYA. Best residential mower on the market. Period. If you have the budget, a scag 30” would be a welcome upgrade. Any other 30” mowers are not reliable enough for me to recommend (Toro etc.)

Do you think BIFL is actually cost effective?
I bought a 2006 Honda CRV brand new. I drove it for 317k km (189k miles think). After my final payment was made in 2011, I banked the car payment every month. $670 CAD. I just retired the car in November 2024 because the repair had become a new engine. It was no longer worth the cost to repair her. That being said, even with repairs, I saved tens of thousands. It really depends on how long you get out of something and the cost to keep it, but in my case I easily came out ahead. I bought another Honda to replace mine.

I’m going to be the one to say maintenance is worth everything. Sure there are Hondas that are cheap to buy parts for and run seemingly indefinitely, but I’m gonna say no matter what vehicle you get, do all the maintenance. Listen for odd noises, notice weird smells, if the rpm’s at idle bounce around at all. The better you respond to your car telling you something is wrong, the longer you’re going to be able to keep and run that car. Coming from someone who needs a new clutch and a power steering pump on a 14 year old Subaru I know it’s not cheap or easy, just do what you can.

I think honda and mazda are also pretty high up there... Any car can last a long time though, as long as you do the proper maintenance on time... Unless it's a kia/hyundai... those things are made of paper machet. Or a VW product... those are made so complicated that proper maintenance is nigh impossible... Or a christler product... see paper machet comment... but just for the transmission... ;p

No car is BIFL when not maintained. The majority of cars, if driven safely and carefully, serviced regularly (once per year for low mileage cars, 2x per year for high mileage cars) by a reliable mechanic, and cleaned regularly and carefully (including engine bay), will last significantly longer than 10 years. There are however some brands that will last longer than others even if the above is done. Brands I would personally be happy to own long term: Honda, Toyota, Ford (if they have a wet belt, stick to the replacement schedule or before), BMW, VW, Skoda, Mazda, Subaru. There will be other brands I haven't listed too, but that is off the top of my head. Some will also last longer due to simplicity, less electronics, availability of parts (popular car generally = more parts available), etc.

Similar thing happened to me. I got tired of having to rush to shovel my sidewalks before work so that I could beat the dog-walkers before they trample the snow into a compacted mess. A Yamaha or Honda with tracks is definitely more than you need, but will make life easier for sure. I would suggest a smaller cut size just to make it easier to get up and down. Used is good if you can't afford new, just be sure to service it regularly (use fuel stabilizer, check belts, pins, etc). That being said, I managed decently for 10 years with a little Troy-bilt from Canadian Tire and I had a very steep driveway in Atlantic Canada, where we averaged probably 400cm of snow annually.

North face down jacket. I've had one since 2008 and even had them replace a broken zipper for free about 10 years into owning it. Dutch oven has been amazing as well. My Honda HR-V. Maybe not quite BIFL, but it already has so much less maintenance required and fewer recalls than my previous Subaru. It's not as fun to drive, but I am fairly certain I'll have this car for the next two decades. Fail: Dyson cordless vacuum. Just so many issues with it. My husband has purchased some replacement parts, but the quality just feels like it's lacking.

You should really include the budget you're working with. Everyone's first suggestion is going to be Honda, but that reputation comes with a BIG price tag. Snowblowers come in a lot of variations, I'd recommend getting most anything name brand with tracks (skip the home depot brands) and maintain it well, store it inside and clear off as much snow as you can every time you put it away. My city averages 131 inches per year. I just inherited my dad's ~2009 toro when he got a Honda on tracks, and it still works great. He just wanted tracks. My neighbour has a 2008 year old arien(?), the arien works, but it doesn't throw snow 50 feet like the toro or Honda. Realistically, 15 years here is probably a lifetime of snow in DC. Really, the best thing I can suggest is checking in the r/Newfoundland or r/StJohnsNL subreddits. St. John's is full of hills and is regularly listed in the top 10 snowiest cities. If you include the amount of snow you get you might get some lighter duty suggestions.

What I mean by that, there are a lot of companies that slap a Honda engine on their crappy machines because the “Honda” brand carries a lot of weight. You’ll see it with lawn mowers too. Basically look for actual Honda power equipment dealers in your area; don’t buy something out of a box store :) Husqvarna is weird; in the old days everything they made was in-house but as of late, more and more Husqvarna equipment has been outsourced to MTD. For example, some chainsaws now under the Husqvarna brand are part for part identical to a Lowe’s craftsman. The problem is, Husqvarna doesn’t differentiate things that are made in house and things which they started outsourcing. And more and more things seem to be getting outsourced. For future reference here is a list of brands MTD manufacturers essentially in their entirety: Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, Yard Machine, Bolens, Cub Cadet, Yard Man To paint the fuller picture, MTD is owned by Stanley Black&Decker (yes that Stanley and that Black and Decker) which is the parent company that owns dewalt. In addition, to confuse it further, Husqvarna makes machines for a bunch of brands as well, from weed eater, to poulan and poulan pro. If you aren’t confused, congratulations haha. To summarize: Husqvarna is too risky nowadays, and I can’t recommend them in good faith.

Mechanic here: Honda makes probably the most robust snowblowers you can buy today. They are expensive, but they have a great reputation for being easy to get parts for, and have killer warranties. And to be clear, *NOT* just a Honda engine, Honda from top to bottom. Basically all other snowblowers you could buy with very little exception are made by the same parent company/partnership (including Husqvarna contrary to popular belief), and usually have junk no-name motors with little to no parts accessibility. As with *any* power equipment, if you want a bifl tool. Honda is the *only* answer.

Honda would be numero uno on my list, followed by an Ariens Deluxe model NOT from Lowe's. I've heard not good things about snowblowers with tracks vs. two wheels / tires, but nothing from personal experience. I guess tracks add a lot of complexity to the system and like anything else, tracks are something very expensive to service or replace should / when it fails. Tracks on a blower does look bad-ass, though. Now, if manufacturers could just make them so the pain doesn't chip and eventually rust, then you'd have a real king of snow.

We live in one of the snowiest parts of the US, and my biggest pieces of advice are: 1. If you get more than 4-6 inches of snow at a time, absolutely do not get a single-stage machine. It will not be up to the task. You will need a two-stage! 2. All high quality machines will need maintenance every so often. If there's a local repair shop, find out what brand they do and don't work on. You don't want to be up a creek later on when you have trouble finding someone to work on your machine. 3. Honda is the gold standard. 75% of all snow throwers up here are Honda. 4. The other 25% is almost exclusively Ariens and Husqvarna. I’ve seen one Toro.

Given that your snow is so wet and it can be so much, I'd be buying the higher end Honda two stage blower. It's the only one you'll ever have to buy.

None. But the top 3 are Ariens, Honda, and Toro. Ariens can probably claim the longest life, units from the 60s still in use, Honda would be next with units from the 80s, followed by Toro with 90s. Toro's main problem is that they always seem to try and reinvent the augers.

Highly unlikely any will last a lifetime, especially the way most people do maintenance. Best IMO is Honda. Their small engines are the best in any application I can think of. Bad thing about Hondas is they often outlast the parts supply. I have a perfectly good Honda except one cable is bad and I can't find one reasonably priced anywhere.

Well I guess if you are 60 or so you might consider a snow blower BIFL, but for most of us that definition is probably unrealistic. These machines see tough conditions and usage by design and are best case scenario for your described usage is probably about 20 years with good maintenance. Well, take those claims with a big grain of salt. Sure *some* cars in the 70s/80s were crap, especially many American-built ones. But I drove 1970s Japanese cars well into the 1990s and never had an issue with any of them. Put 200K plus on several different Datsun (Nissan), Honda, and Toyota cars before selling them, never had one really break in any way that was permanent or expensive to fix. I drove an 1974 Datsun coast-to-coast four times in the early 1990s with zero problems. Friends had similar experiences with Japanese cars. American cars, however, were a different issue. I remember being stranded alongside the road many times in the 70s/80s in vehicles that were made by Chevrolet, Ford, Chryster, and AMC in particular.

Depends on what you're buying. A 20,30, 40 year old Toyota or Honda will give less major headaches than one you can buy post 2020. A 40 year old Mercedes is a better reliability bet than anything German vehicle in the past 20 years. American cars have always had the, "hey shit breaks, go buy parts and fix it". Now cars are iphones, "this thing is going to be great until the very minute your lease is up"

It has been through some serious Minnesota winters and I have three driveways for 3 of those years. It has never, ever skipped a beat. i do take care of it, wash and wax it, change the oil, store it with star brite fuel additive in the spring, and only run non-oxy gas in it since new. Cranks the first time, every time. You may not be able to find one as they are starting to discontinue them, but if you can find one, it will cost you, but they could bury you with it after you die...

Can you give a price range or certain features that are must haves? In general, you can't beat Toyota or Honda, or their luxury brands: Lexus and Acura. Subaru is also solid (they're partners with Toyota). If you're considering an suv, and have a lot of money to spend, I would get a Toyota Land Cruiser . There's a reason why you'll find 15 year old land cruisers for over $10k. Econo car, I'd pick a corolla over a civic because the Corolla has a timing chain instead of a belt. Midsize sedan, Honda Accord. Full size, Toyota Avalon or Lexus LS460. Out of all the cars, if money is no object, I'd get the LS460. Truck, nothing beats a Toyota. Small suv, Honda CR-V. Mid-size suv, highlander, pilot, or 4Runner.
