  Best Air purifier to reasonable price? for Smoke and garbage smell

  I have a Honeywell 50250 from 7 years ago. They don't make them anymore and replacement filters are all aftermarket for them on Amazon. (Probably because they work so good) I've seen the units on ebay though. Amazing machine. Runs 24/7. I move it to the living room from my bedroom when I've cooked something in the kitchen that made a lot of smoke or is real potent like fish or onions. That thing takes care of it totally in about an hour. Smoke made it in the house from a house fire a block down. Took care of that in a day on high. With that model off the market new I've bought the replacement size unit for the living room. Honeywell HPA 300. Bought it 3 years ago. Only pulls in air from one side. Doesn't trap as much dust or get kitchen smells out well enough. The fan started making a squeaking noise this past spring. If you can find that 50250. I highly recommend it.

  Are there any true "self-cleaning" evaporative humidifiers out there?

  Biology always wins, no matter what the box claims. UV lights inside a humidifier tank barely hit anything once the water gets cloudy or a biofilm forms. Chlorine cartridges run out fast, microbes do not. The only reliable approach is picking a design that is hard to contaminate in the first place. A sealed evaporative wick chamber with no internal splash zones helps more than any gadget. A tank and base you can toss in a dishwasher lets you cook off the slime instead of scrubbing forever. A decent wick material slows things down, but it is still not magic. A simple water path with no hidden channels keeps mold from setting up shop. The Vornado Evap40 and the Honeywell HCM 350 fit that pattern, mostly because they rely on plain evaporation instead of pretending to be sterilizers. Any self cleaning UV badge is marketing. Those LEDs barely light the water, much less sanitize it. Simple geometry and heat tolerant parts outlive every gimmick humidifier.

  The Best Air Purifier for Home now? Have you noticed a huge difference since you started using them?

  Honeywell has been making them for decades. We have lots of pet fur and burn wood in winter so we notice those both in the filter. I would suggest if they have a washable outside filter to help reduce replacement costs, but it’s more about measuring your room and sizing appropriately.

  Dehumidifier for silverfish, any recommendations?

  For me, a mid-size Honeywell unit made a big difference, but I also noticed results came faster after sealing windows and running a fan for better airflow. Silverfish love quiet, stagnant corners. Are you mostly looking for a quick fix, or do you want a more permanent solution?

  If you have a central furnace then add one to that. If not get an evaporative one with a 2 gallon minimum capacity. It should be able to run a full day. The ultrasonic ones will leave a mist on everything and will clog any air filters you have. I like the Honeywell HWLHEV620B. The wicks last around 4 weeks with our hard water. The top come off to clean the base. I just wish it had a better handle when moving the unit.

  Need Help Choosing the Best Air Purifier for Allergies, True HEPA and Quiet

  I have the old 90s style Honeywell cylinder which is not made in china and they last forever. Pretty sure mine is made in Mexico but it could be USA.  I also have smaller 3M made in Taiwan, but they rely on electronics. They're much smaller and quieter than the Honeywell cylinders. However, you do need to buy the made in Mexico replacement filters. Accidentally bought one that was made in china and it made my room smell like burning plastic. Had to return it and find Mexican filters since they're mixed together and in almost identical packaging(the shrink wraps are different).  The new small and cheaper Honeywells are all chinese made crap.

  Honeywell hpaxxx they come in different sizes hence the xxx. Filters are interchangeable and modular by design. No frills but looks good compared to a box fan with a furnace filter taped to it.

  Always get a humidifier that's sized properly for the square footage. The Honeywell HCM350 is a solid choice for a typical room as there arent that many reputable brands on the market.   A fan that makes great white noise

  As someone who has slept with a fan next to my head since I can remember, no one can answer this for you unfortunately. The pitch of the noise will be different for everyone and movement of air will be personal preference. When my last fan died (12" Hawaiian breeze lasted damn near a decade), I researched for weeks and weeks, buying and trying/returning dozens of fans to find that right noise. I am currently a few years into using a 12" comfort zone fan on my night stand. I have five fans in the cut in case this one goes out and I start the process again. For example, I kept a vornado air circulating fan as backup, but it just didn't sound right to me. In my 36 years, I've gone through about 4 staple fans. In my experience, I can tell you that any standard 12" desk fan or something like a Honeywell turbo will probably get you a good five years minimum. I have never tried a Dyson, but you can sometimes see them on display at a best buy to get an idea of you would like to spend that money. A standard box fan also gives a very deep and strong white noise. I can go on for hours about this shit.

  I ended up getting a Honeywell HCM‑350 evaporative humidifier and it’s been rock solid. Filling the tank and swapping the wick pad takes me five minutes once a week and I’ve never had a leak or ghost shut‑offs.

  I had a horizon eclipse .. lasted 10 years. Just replaced with moiswell as horizon stopped making them. 2 weeks in (today) I already had to do a repair. And the humidity and temp sensors are wild. Constantly bouncing around. But seems ok.. I also have a Honeywell that's been going about 10 years. Still going daily. I clean the filter sometimes every 6 months, sometimes every 3 years xD

  No way you're cold out, dude. I've tried running the top runner dehumidifiers from GE and Frigidaire, but they're just air suckers without subtly. They can drown out your thoughts haha. For smooth stealth, Honeywell seems to quietly get the job done, though crowd it with 3D printers, and even they'll go "shhh". If you want some expert insight on the rest of them, you might check out ConsumerRating - they've got a knack for digging into the details without the jazz.

  For large capacity, Consumer Reports recommends the Honeywell TP70WKN. We have used ours 24/7 for over 2.5 years and it’s great. We have it drain into our sump pump, but other people have theirs drain into their laundry sink.

  LF a machine that is both an Ozone Generator and a HEPA air purifier that makes white noise.

  Ozone generators aren't for occupied spaces. It will do serious damage to your lungs. No reputable company will sell one as an air purifier. Now if you want something like your germ guardian, which is not an ozone machine, but in a scale that actually does kill germs, you just need to install a Mercury vapor lamp into your HVAC filter housing for your house. It'll be waaaaay more effective. They're commonly sold as the 100watt sun lights for reptile tanks. And they're super power inefficient. As far as a HEPA air purifier and filter, I like Honeywell ones.

  The honeywell air purifier in the corner of my living room is at least 8 years old, and shows no signs of slowing down. For pet stuff, like litter boxes and food/litter storage bins: Iris USA. Durable, solid, the bins are airtight and come with casters. Based on anecdotes: Toyota. My father drove a '98 Corolla coast to coast and back when it was \~15 years old, without any difficulty. My mother just parted with a '05 Corolla with about 350000km or 200k miles on it, and she only gave it up because there was a crack in the frame, it ran *fine*.

  Briggs and Riley, Yeti, All Clad, Rosle for utensils, Zojirushi for rice cooker, villeroy and boch for ceramics, Crate and Barrell for platware and their mix and match silverware, Honeywell air purifiers, Lancome and l'occitane for creams and body oils. Random but hope that helps!

  Best noise canceling headphones?

  for home use? I bought the bose nc700, which i regret. it was a pita, requires a poor functioning app to use, and is a lousy bluetooth headset. sony xm series, what i origionally wanted but the store was out of stock of in my rural, slow to replenish neck of the woods has been superior in every regard. after being unavailable for months, my local store got some back in stock as soon as the return policy on my nc700s expired. These are excellent headphones! for work and actual hearing protection, I would recomend a set of Honeywell Howard Leight earmuffs or a set of 3m worktunes with the gel.  in every scenario amazon is known to sell counterfeits, so ymmv

  I personally like the Honeywell HPA series. They're not very energy efficient but they are POWERFUL if you need clean air **now**, They use simple to use, no wifi bullshit, with simple-to-replace parts with a simple AC motor. The filters ("R filter") are all a common, simple standard and are available from many manufacturers on amazon. I am allergic to my wife's 2 cats, so we have one of these in every single room. 2x HPA300, for the kitchen and basement, 2x HPA200, for the bedroom and office, and a newly added HPA100 for our spare bedroom.

  I have an Austin Air Healthmate plus, 2 different Honeywell, and a smaller Levoit. The Honeywell units are the oldest. The big round one with ring shaped filter is out of commission because it started making a really high pitched squeaking sound. I'm assuming I can take it apart and lubricate and it will keep working fine but I haven't had a chance to do it yet. The Honeywells are nice because it is easy to find non-oem filters in Amazon for much cheaper that seem to perform well, and OEM filters are easy to find in person. The Austin Air is by far the most expensive, but also turns over way more air per hour than any of the others and is suitable for larger spaces. It has a 3 stage filter that lasts up to 5 years and filters VOCs. I just ordered my first replacement filter which cost $405. That seems crazy but it works really well and I like not having to change it every few months and throw away a bunch of used filters. You just need to periodically vacuum the outside of the unit to get any dust buildup out of the intake grates. I keep the smaller Levoit in the laundry room to deal with lint and dust and I take it with me when I travel for overnight trips via car. It is small enough to carry into hotel rooms in a canvas tote bag. It doubles as white noise and helps whenever I end up in a room that has a strong cleaning product smell or just doesn't smell great. If you have an FSA account you can get your Dr. To write a letter that will serve as a letter of medical necessity to allow you to use FSA $ to purchase certain HEPA purifiers and replacement filters. Mine was literally like 2 sentences and said I have allergies and would benefit from an air purifier.

  Honeywell is great for consumer grade. Really you don’t need much beyond a box with a fan to house a great filter. It’s more about filter quality than anything else.try to get one with a carbon pre filter as well for larger particles or smoke No filter is BIFL for obvious reasons but a solid fan can last decades. If you want to get real crazy look into the world of commercial indoor growing equipment. Weed growers perfected this tech back in days of illegality. To make a great scrubber get a carbon filter and attach a vortex / in line ducting fan on top and let it rip. Not the safest. You don’t want to stick your hand in there but this will absolutely clear out the most smoke possible. Without ducting it will just circulate and clean. Best brand for a pure carbon filter is usually CAN. Ultimate air tech is a carbon filter connected to a ducting fan outputting to a hepa. I used to manually attach hepas from wet / dry vacs to the top of the fan. You can buy the replacement hepas at Home Depot.

  My coworker loves his coways. I personally have a honeywell that’s been an absolute tank of an air purifier for years now. I recently got a Winix as well that I like although it has a light sensor so it knows when to go into “night mode.” I thought I would like this feature until winter hit and the sun started setting at 4:30 pm and my air purifier thinks it’s night time and isn’t detecting contaminates without a light on near it. I do like that Winix has a year life filter (or we’ll see) and that I can set schedules and check filter life on the app. Costco had the Winix one I got for a good price back in October and I heard they run the sale often so if you have a membership I’d check there!

  Bed stuff I'm thinking of buying

  All I can say is we get great mileage out of our Company Store linen sheet sets, but each set runs $100-$150. Our Honeywell humidifiers are solid around $70. Other than that, I’m sure there’s a washable eye mask that would fit the bill. Any upgrade from polyester bedding would be worth it.
