Finally stopped buying cheap vacuums and invested in a better one, does it actually last?
If you have carpet I swear by the Hoover OnePwr HEPA that was discontinued. Battery powered oreck XL that beats the dirt out of the rug.

Best Carpet Cleaner Advice?
carpet cleaners all claim to deep clean but the real difference is suction, brush design, and how much moisture they leave behind. rentals feel powerful but usually just over-wet and make stains reappear. the bissell little green pet deluxe is clutch for fast kid/pet messes since it isolates the gross stuff in its own tank, shark stainstriker adds that dual-mix spray that reacts on the stain instead of the carpet, and the hoover smartwash handles full rooms with push-to-wash / pull-to-dry cycles that actually leave floors less soggy. i threw the ones that made sense [into one list](https://lampasul.github.io/link-redirector/?to=carpet) hope it adds value for all

My shitty mop just broke again. Any BIFL mop recommendations?
I have a Shark steam mop that’s 10 years old and I still use it. I also have an O’cedar spin mop and a Hoover Floormate. I used to love the Floormate and it’s going strong after 12 years but it’s bulky and a pain to clean. It does an excellent job cleaning the floors though. I’m waiting for it to break so I can upgrade to a newer (slimmer) mop/vacuum

Best Carpet Cleaner Advice?
I have a Hoover too! It's great! I go over the carpet in the "drying" cycle 2 or 3 times to suck up the most amount of moisture I can.

Best Carpet Cleaner Advice?
You need to buy a real carpet cleaner...not that much$$... go to HD,Lowe's or Bst Buy...or Amazon. I got Hoover off QVC for 'round $170 years ago and still works perfectly. Not clunky and awkward and dirty like the rentals...looks more like an upright vac ..easy to use and maintain

The best vacuum money can buy?
A vacuum cleaner has only a few necessary parts: a rolling brush to agitate carpet and free up dirt/dust, a motor to drive that brush and then suck up the dirt/dust as it comes free, and a bag/bin to contain the mess. I think some specialized attachments (such as crevice tools, extensions, and handheld brushes) are nice, but anything else is unnecessary. I have a 2400sf home. The entire upstairs is carpeted, and we have two large area rugs on the hardwood downstairs. I vacuum the rugs weekly and the upstairs monthly. We also have two dogs, one that sheds and one that doesn't. They stay downstairs :) I've made it through the last 20 years with two identical vacuums, both the exact same model: The Hoover Tempo Widepath. When I purchased the first one, I bought some extra belts and bags on Amazon. Those are the only parts of the vacuum that need replacement somewhat regularly, and I can do both of those on my own with just a Phillips-head screwdriver in about ten minutes. To replace the belt, the brush must be removed, so I'll clean that up with each belt replacement. In 20 years, I think I've spent less than $300 on all that (<$100 for the vacuum new x2, $12 for 9 bags, $6 for 2 belts). The first one was ruined when some contractors used it to clean up a drywall demo job :( The second one is still going strong. I think simple and easy to maintain has made this a setup I'm very happy with. On a Black Friday a few years ago, we purchased a cordless Shark stick vacuum to clean our cars and rugs without having to get out the big vacuum. So, the Hoover doesn't do most of the weekly tidying anymore.

Best vacuum cleaner?
You want it for life. Old Hoovers from the 1970s and 60s...still have one in operation--now relegated to the cellar but can't kill that thing..................

These are the most recommended vacuum cleaners on Reddit (r/VacuumCleaners VS others) as of Jan 2025
I trust vacuum recommendations on the internet (and Reddit) as much as I do mattress recommendations. The Carpet and Rug Institute, whose board includes members from companies like Shaw and Mohawk who manufacture carpet (https://carpet-rug.org/about-us/board-of-directors/), maintains a certified list of vacuums (https://carpet-rug.org/soa-vacuums/). You can filter by residential and commercial. Of course there are good vacuums that aren't certified. I have no affiliation with them but do happen to own a bagged Hoover WindTunnel (2006), two Riccar uprights (\~2017, one was a gift), and a Sebo canister vac. I can get the Riccar and Sebo serviced nearby and I stock some spare parts, for example the Riccar brush roll has replaceable brush strips.

What Vacuum for $150 and under? or maybe $200
Here's a list I had written up for another user with similar parameters. Bagged=Better. A BIFL vacuum under $200 really can't be considered BIFL, but I think these are some good options (For primarily carpets, all hard floors would be a completely different list.) I would always recommend buying from a brick and mortar store if possible. Not only do they typically provide better service/support than big box stores and internet retailers, they are essential your warranty center and I think if your paying for warranty you should make sure you have a place to have it taken care of. There are other brands that are not mention here that are available (Cirrus,Evolution, etc.) but I would recommend most the machines below over these companies. Carpet Pro/Fuller Brush - I have these with commercial accounts that have used them for 9+ years. (To give you an idea the vacuum industry considers 1 year commercial use = 5 years residential use.) With this formula these machines have 45+ years of use on them. *Now these machines are well cared for and maintained which is only going to prolong the life compared to folks that do nothing to maintain their machines. [CPU75] (http://www.amazon.com/Carpet-Pro-CPU-75T-Household-Upright/dp/B00M4STMOQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1444932520&sr=1-1&keywords=cpu75%5C) [CPU1] (http://www.amazon.com/Carpet-Pro-Heavy-Duty-Household-Upright/dp/B000A6XCKY/ref=sr_1_6?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1444932648&sr=1-6&keywords=cpu1) [Tidy Maid] (http://www.amazon.com/Fuller-Brush-Tidy-Maid-Upright/dp/B00A7BXDZ6/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1444932723&sr=1-2&keywords=fuller+brush+tidy) Hoover - Is not the same company they were 20+ years ago. They are owned by a bigger company who also owns, Dirt Devil, Royal, and Oreck. I think these are the two machines they make that are worth a darn. [Hoover Tempo - IMHO the best machine Hoover makes these days] (http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WidePath-Bagged-Upright-U5140900/dp/B0009ONZ8G/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1444932726&sr=1-1&keywords=Hoover+tempo) [Wintunnel] (http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-Anniversary-WindTunnel-Self-Propelled-U6485900/dp/B0016NP14A/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1444932754&sr=1-4&keywords=Hoover+windtunnel) Panasonic - Has a number of bagged uprights that work very well UG223 UG471 Riccar/Simplicity - I personally have had my Riccar for 6+ years and it would be my recommendation. They have good warranties and they're made in Missouri.
