What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Yeah... No. That thing will ruin your edge geometry and your knife. Stones are far better and cheaper or, if you are completely inept and can't spare 10min to take care of your USD 1000 tool, a HORL roller. Stay away from pull through sharpeners if you care about your knives.

If you had $300 for your kitchen, what would you buy that lasts?
Last kitchen item I bought was a Horl rolling knife sharpener. I can't sharpen knifes the traditional way if my life depended on it, and I don't care how often people say it's easy and anyone can do it, if it were so, why do so many people buy pull through sharpeners, and why is professional sharpening a profession? If it were so easy, there wouldn't be professionals doing it. Besides I've tried enough times to know there's no way I'm ever going to learn. After watching a few YouTube videos, I learned that pull through sharpeners put etches parallel to the edge, but you want etches perpendicular to the edge to act as micro serrations, this is why the traditional whetstone sharpening is so much superior to pull through sharpening. Rolling sharpeners put slanted etches on the knife edge, which still act as micro serrations, so although they're technically inferior since they're not completely perpendicular to the edge they still do a much more than just serviceable job. Before buying the pricier Horl, I went the Adam Savage route and bought a shitty no name rolling sharpener from Temu, and it worked! - For 5 sharpenings or so - this was enough proof of concept for me to be convinced to buy a branded rolling sharpener, but which brand? I had seen ads for Tumbler but also learned about Horl from Reddit. I also asked Chat GPT. In the end I decided to buy the Horl 3 Cruise. It's their cheapest in their current line up, and still does the job, I'm very happy with the purchase. So yeah, if you have a $300 budget for a kitchen item, can't sharpen to save your life, no one sharpens for you and want to save money on hiring a professional sharpener/buying new knives, and still have about half of that $300 over, pick up a cruise 3.

Hahaha I love this kind of pointless (pun unintended but appreciated) competition! I am constantly bragging to my mom about how sharp my kitchen knives are bc I have a Horl knife sharpener (gives the same quality sharpening of a whetstone without requiring expertise) and my mother will only get hers professionally sharpened!! I’m definitely winning!

I have the Horl knife sharpener and I love it! But for tweezers it doesn’t take much so an old nail file does the trick!
