What exactly makes expensive office chairs better?
Not all expensive chairs are the same. Just like clothes, some will fit your body better than others. I bought the Aeron when they first came out and the chair truly saved my back over the decades. Unfortunately, the metal frame at the front of the seat would dig into my thighs, causing discomfort and numbness after an extended period of sitting. When it was time for a replacement, I got the Humanscale Freedom Headrest in leather and have not looked back.

Herman Miller or Steelcase office chair?
So I used a steel case for about 2 months before I realized it wasn't for me. Then I got a humanscale liberty for 15 years, loved it. Decided to try the aeron after a while, and wish I hadn't switched

The Best and Most Comfortable Ergonomic Office Chair To Buy Now?
I fucking love my Humanscale Freedom headrest. It also looks really good imo. I paid retail brand new, it was 14xx iirc and I don’t feel like I overspent at all. You can get them used for 4-600ish, a friend of mine got a leather model for 650ish from one of the used office furniture websites and it was immaculate. I think the basic recommendations are great. Leap V2 is a really great chair. The HM Aeron works for a lot of people but personally I hate the mesh seat. The HM Embody is the only chair I consider in the same league as the Humanscale Freedom.

What is the best high-end home office chair?
Aeron is a great choice. But also check out the desk chairs made by Humanscale. They have a really nice alternative to the Aeron. Currently I am using their Saddle Stool and I like it much better than a chair. Easy to get in and out of. Encourages you to use your back muscles and not slump. When not in use fits neatly under the desk. Comes in great colors. Looks really good without overwhelming the rest of the room.

What's are home office purchases you've made that have more than paid for themselves?
A few things. A good monitor. I bought a dell 27”, high spec, ten years ago and it’s still going strong. A good chair. Invest in a good one. I bought a human scale but there are others. A good monitor arm, external mouse and keyboard.

Is $260 for this office chair worth the price?
Humanscale Freedom chairs are great for scooting around your workspace, and I think they're more comfortable than an Aeron. Very pricy.

What chair should a women get who sits in the chair for hours
Most any higher end office chair really? I use a Humanscale Freedom at home and have used both a Nightingale OXO and an Ergohuman V2 at work. All of those are great choices. If you can't find any of the upper end ones at a decent price (used is okay!), Staples sells the Hyken and Dexley models for under $200 new if you catch them on sale. They're not as good as the others listed here but far better than your average "gaming" chair or the like.

Whats the best home office chair?
I have a human scale freedom chair. I work in commercial spaces. My top 3 recommendations are below 1. Aerons - aesthetic and highly ergonomic, a classic 2. Almost anything human scale except their "budget line" - design driven and highly ergonomic 3. Steelcase leap - a power horse, my recommendation for plus size individuals as well.

Suggestions for a BIFL wheeled desk chair?
Look for Steelcase, Humanscale or Herman Miller chairs. There are places that sell them used, and they're pretty reasonable. I got a Steelcase Gesture during COVID. Excellent chair, with the most function arms I've ever seen.

office chair - something with bottom padding that can last?
Thick plush padding means the chair is effectively dead after a few years. It’s possible to be comfortable on something with thin dense padding where the substrate it’s mounted to has some flex. For example my humanscale freedom is still very comfortable. I would not recommend that specific chair however - it lacks adjustments so is only suitable for a specific range of body shapes and sizes.
