You’re probably going to want something taller. Although they tend to be a bit heavier, the height is needed when in the depths of winter or depths of NYC puddles - Sorell Joan Of Arctic - Wellies: Hunter, Bogs, LL Bean *Notes* - ^ Hunter sells a liner sock for warmth - LL 🫘 has something like Yaktrax specifically designed for the bean boot. These work great on ice, but not on cement. - Sorel tends to run small for me - I’d suggest sizing up a whole size for boots. Your toes and feet need room so they don’t get cold. - Also be sure to wear a wool or merino wool sock. I’m a fan of Bombas. I heard Darn Tough is good too. I like smartwool, but they tend to wear out. Thankfully, you can send back for replacement. - Additionally, you can add a sock liner (REI & I’m sure other brands have them). Much like a glove liner, they are thinner but add a lot more warmth. - Lastly, consider wearing different pants (fleece lined sweats or leggings, snow pants) when commuting & changing once at work or your destination

Ceiling fan brand recommendations?
Most decent ceiling fans use custom LED modules now, so finding ones with regular sockets takes a bit of digging. Portage bay and hunter still make a few models that do (like this), and they’re pretty reliable for the price. Just make sure the fixture has enough clearance for the bulb size you want, some E26 fans can be shallow and overheat with larger bulbs. Also check reviews for hum noise at low speeds, that’s the one thing people always overlook.

BIFL *women's* winter boots, waterproof, arch support, please
Getting orthotics might be the option you're looking for. I put my custom orthotics inside rain boots (just got a pair of Hunter boots) to keep my feet comfortable and dry in the cold. I'm sure my situation is different from yours, and I know adding another doctor can be a pain (pun intended), but having a podiatrist on my team really helped me with the pain I was in. Just my 2¢.

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
Encourage her to get what she really wants and what shes going to be happiest with long term. If you don't chances are she'll be shopping again for what she wanted all along in the future. Not to mention underlying resentment. I don't expect my wife to weigh in when I buy tools...etc. Ugg is a good brand and they make some good boots. Sorel and Hunter are other brands that make good boots that are also stylish. My wife owns an assortment of ugg, sorel, and hunter. The sorels are her favorite.

Rain boots?
Maybe try something from Hunter? I have a pair of rain chukka boots, not actual 12 inch rain boots or wellingtons but they're all made of a quality rubber. and I've had mine for over 3 years with no complaints. Also I have had 8" Bean Boots from L.L. Bean and can vouch for their quality as well. Also, if anything fails on the bean boots you can just go to a store and exchange them for a new pair.
