Does anyone else feel like it's impossible to buy quality stuff anymore? Seems like every single thing I buy falls apart absurdly fast. I try to get quality stuff, but reviews are all fake, star ratings are bought... how do you avoid buying junk?
Check out their warranty policy. If they provide a lifetime no-questions-asked warranty, they probably have a good product If it's a complex item, check to see if they offer replacement/maintenance parts, diagrams, schematics, repair manuals, etc. Many enterprise oriented products typically have more of this, and are more repairable/serviceable. Bonus points if they encourage DIY repairs or enable third-party repairs. Avoid companies that say "only we are allowed to repair/service this product", because if they either suddenly stop supporting that product, or start price-gouging, you won't get screwed over. iFixIt is a company that reviews the reparability of many consumer products, as well as sell repair equipment as well as replacement parts Buy in-store. Stores generally stock items that have a lower chance of returns for refunds. They don't usually stock junk that people will just return

What's one item you've owned for years that's still going strong-and was totally worth the money?
I bought a big butcher block desk that is pretty much as to f as the day I bought it. Nicks and dings can be sanded out. Finishes can be refinished if you want. It's great. Also iFixit screwdriver set.

Tweezerman is great. I also really like the ones that came in my iFixit tool kits. Yeah yeah, I know they are for electronics, but they are also great for iFix-ing my eyebrows.
