Anyone using a countertop ice maker that's actually good?
My Igloo ice maker is going on 6 years of nonstop operation but it is a major PITA to clean. In my experience, the only way to consistently get “clear ice” is to use distilled water and keep your ice maker nearly-sterile at all times.

Anyone using a countertop ice maker that's actually good?
If it's on indiegogo, you can almost be certain that there are not enough units out there to get a true reliability test. Additionally, a *big* part of BIFL on electronic devices is the availability of parts as well as the continued support from the company, both of which are dubious from a startup. My advice would be to either go with something cheap from Frigidaire or Igloo, or to pony up the money for the GE Profile Opal.

Anyone using a countertop ice maker that's actually good?
We use a basic igloo brand one. Fairly quiet, does the job. Can’t complain. It is kinda heavy for the size though. Easy to maintain, just make sure you dry it completely before putting it away

Looking for Cooler Recommendations
Yeah, I have been through the same problem. Yeti's is great, but unless you go camping for days, that price tag makes zero sense. On the beach, it's mostly just something that keeps ice through the day and isn't burdensome to carry. I have been using a Symphony personal cooler at home, not the same as an ice chest, obviously. If you mean air cooler for outdoor use, then Symphony's tower ones actually do okay for patios or garages. Take a look at either Coleman or Igloo MaxCold for storage coolers. They hold up well, clean easily, and aren't too expensive. Pay attention to insulation thickness and a good drain plug. It is these things that matter, not the brand name.

I really want this Rtic cooler but it doesn’t latch, is there anything equally insulated that does in this size?
I recommend a soft bag like the Yeti M15, those can get wet and are lightweight and easier to strap down but still stay cold. I love to paddle board and I got a reallly cheap Igloo playmate cooler (the small ones with a button latch that easily rotates back and forth) second hand that I strapped to my board. I tend to put it on land somewhere rather than travel with it but I don’t feel bad getting it dirty. I’d try that first if you can!

What exactly is the difference between injection molding, roto molding & closed cell foam coolers?
If your near Houston go to the igloo factory for seconds.

What exactly is the difference between injection molding, roto molding & closed cell foam coolers?
Where do you go camping. When i am in oklahoma or Texas in the summer I might have to add ice to the drink cooler more than once a day. With my yeti style cooler I can can go about 2 days in the food cooler. 9 hours on the boat in the sun and my igloo is struggling.

Anyone using a countertop ice maker that’s actually good?
I recommend the [GE Opal 2.0](https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeIceMakers/comments/1ky9gvo/looking_for_the_best_countertop_ice_maker/) if you want one of the best countertop ice makers – it makes soft nugget ice and looks really nice. For a budget-friendly option, the [Igloo ICEB26](https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeIceMakers/comments/1ky9gvo/looking_for_the_best_countertop_ice_maker/) is a great pick. It’s easy to use, affordable, and makes ice fast.

New/Old Igloo Cooler
Native Houstonian here...grew up in a big time fishing & sports family and never knew any other brand of cooler growing up in Texas! 🤣. They've even got their own "Igloo Road" on the west side of Houston (Katy/Brookshire,TX)[Igloo Road on the map](https://www.igloocoolers.com/pages/igloo-company-store)

What is your current BIFL item you recommend to everyone?
I like Yeti coolers, but I will say for less demanding tasks an igloo will be fine. I just had to replace a small 5 quart igloo that my dad bought in the '70s. It gets used to hold snacks and drinks for road trips and sits behind the front seats. I went to Ace hardware and they had a similar sized Yeti cooler for.... $300. So I bought the same igloo model (Igloo Legend) for... $18.99.

What's the oldest item you still use daily that has withstood the test of time, and what's its story?
I remember my grandparents had an old GE refrigerator from the late 50’s that was still running after they passed away around 2000. Personally I have an igloo red and white lunch box/small cooler that I still use that I got in 1996.
