Try the 1955, I started with the 777 18oz ( way to tight ) then went 888 21 oz ( comfortable but a little restrictive as my thighs filled them) then 1955. They work better for thicker legs. Try the stubby denim for an extra upgrade.

Wool coat for the Northeast
You need to examine what kind of coat you want for the temperatures. It gets really where you are so there are a few styles that can work well: 1. Technical jackets with down insulation - Think canada goose, Fjallraven, Patagonia, and Rudsak. These jackets can last a long time if you buy their higher end jackets. Over time you might find wear in the seams and you can bring it to a good tailor for repair. My gf has had hers for 15 years and its still going, I see small wear and will bring it to a tailor sooner or later. 2. Wool jackets - Wool is a classic coat but will not be as insulating as your down choices. There are many styles of these coats that range from a peacoat to Filson style Cruiser jackets - Schott, Filson, Stormy Kromer, Weatherwool. These jackets last a long time and keep you fairly warm and theyll hold up just as well as the technical jacket but theyre a different style. layering is a must with these jackets IMO when its brick outside. 3. Shearling style jackets - These jackets offer a similar warmth to the wool jacket and relies on wool and leather. Certainly a different style for the Northwest but itll keep you very warm. Being leather, its the most expensive choice if you go with genuine sherling instead of polyester and cotton. N-1 Deck are a style of sherling jackets are very warm and you can find them from Buzz Rickson, The Real McCoys, Iron Heart. Schott also sells different styles of shearling jackets that you should look at Golden Bear is another company that does Shearling. All of these jackets can last a long time with enough care, the technical jackets needing the lesat amount of care to the wool and then finally the shearling which requires the most care. I think you have good choices and when it comes down to it, its about price and style. Used models of all the above are found on marketplace to ebay to grailed/depop/vinted.

I wore Iron Heart and Flat Head basically every day for 12 years. I have a closet full of it because none of it has ever "worn out". But OP should be aware workwear brands are not necessarily in the "comfy" clothing business and breaking in a new pair of raws can feel like work. It’s just a lot different than what most consumers think of fashion these days.

Not sure if it’s your style, but Japanese companies like Iron Heart, Samurai Jeans, Pure Blue Japan etc are incredibly high quality and last forever. Ain’t cheap, but amazing quality. Jeans, button downs, shirts, outer ware. Some made in USA companies that get their fabric from Japan but manufacture in USA with similar quality are Freenote Cloth and Rogue Territory.

I like Unbranded, generally well made jeans. The simplicity of designs makes them timeless IMO. I do prefer Iron Hearts heavier weight denims. More resilient, age better, etc. Really made to withstand a beating. I agree tho, I don't see any jeans as BIFL, but you can own good pairs for a couple decades unless you're really hard on them. I have a pair of Iron Hearts I bought in 2016 during a visit to Portland. I'm not really hard on them, but they look like they did when I bought them. I should also note, zero washes. NONE hahaha. Every month or two I toss them outside in the sun for a day. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that haha.

Look at raw denim jeans. Not all brand are equal though, some raw denim is made to fade faster for the denim head to drool over. Ironheart is my recommendation I currently wear ironheart 634s-14, straight legged and quite tough, if you live in a colder region, the 21oz or even the 25oz version is better. I live in the tropics and those weight will kill me, 14oz is crazy heavy in 32 degree C weather.

What kind of budget are we talking? Because my usually recommendation is to look into Japanese brands or Japanese style brands. 100% selvedge cotton tends to drape better and wear in well. Higher end, look at Iron Heart, Oni, Tanuki, etc. Lower end and Canadian made, Naked and Famous makes some pretty nice products, as well as some more expensive made in Japan stuff.

Problems with Levis Jeans and denim overall
Nah, had crotch blow on my Iron heart 21oz after about 6 months. Not because they are low quality, but because the didn't fit right. My uniqlo selvedge on the other hand didn't rip until the end of 3 years of frequent use. TLDR: Buy fitting jeans and they will last longer

Their stuff is phenomenally well made. Won't find corners cut in production. They're known for their heavy weight products. That said, there is often a "break-in" period with much of their clothes as they are very stiff out of the box. That said, their fits can be a bit funky. But they (and several retailers) take very good measurements of their clothing. I would compare their measurements to the measurements of something that fits you well to best judge what size fits you best. If you're stocky/broad shoulder/big armed it's probably not the best brand. Their shirts tend to be fitted in the chest/torso and long/fitted in the sleeves. They have a ton of different cuts for jeans. So they'll have something that'll fit for you. First time I opened up my 21oz denim it was a "oh crap, these are heavy." I still feel like I'm breaking in their 25oz denim a year later.

I straight up had to get rid all of my other denim because they never felt as right as Iron hearts, it bothered me so much having them in my closet knowing I’d never wear them, it was the strangest feeling but was so matter of fact. I have a 9oz selvedge American check western, a 13oz military serge western, a 9oz raised whipcord western. All are built like tanks, but the military serge feels like armor when it’s on. The Serge and flannel aren’t really fading much, but the whipcord definitely is and looks awesome.

Besides to look is there any real benefit to tubular / loop wheel tshirts?
The theory is, due to the low tension during the knitting process, loopwheel fabrics are more durable and not as prone to stretching out. YMMV As a side note: Keep in mind that a tubular shirt is not always made from loopwheel fabric. It must be made on a loopwheel machine. This gets missed when certain tees are discussed. A good example is Whitesville which is not a loopwheel (but a very nice) tee. AND there are loopwheel shirts with side seams. Example being that Iron heart has some loopwheel tees that have side seams in the larger sizes.

It can be challenging to find shirts in tall sizes. If I remember correctly, Taylor Stitch used to offer longer sleeves, but they changed the fit back in 2018 or 2019 since a lot of customers complained. Japanese brands, on the other hand, tend to have longer sleeves but shorter body lengths. You might want to check out Iron Heart to see if their fit works for you. Alternatively, take a look at Westhofen Works. They’re a Swiss brand that offers a contemporary, trim fit and less boxy compared to other European and American brands like Indigofera.

Most of the Japanese denim companies make excellent flannels. Studio D’artisan, Real McCoy, Pure Blue Japan. None of them are cheap, but all of them are good. Iron Heart’s heavyweights are far and away the most durable and impressive shirts around though.

Most of my flannels are Freenote Cloth and are fantastic. They are pricey, so I only pick up ones in the "Last Chance"/prior season closeouts. The Benson Flannels are very thick and well made (all of them are, but their Bensons are a cut above). I love them, but recently moved to the mid-south and probably won't be wearing them as much as I used to when I lived in New England. Their other flannels are thinner and I will be wearing them much of the year. I was gifted a Iron Heart UHF for my 40th birthday. It is phenomenal, better made than any top I have ever encountered and I am sure will stay with me for the rest of my life. I would pick up some more of them if they were not hedonistically expensive.

Wish they offered more roomier options. You would think their size XXXXL would be way too big but its just barely a size 50 in the chest. so if you're big & tall like myself, and have a small belly, it will be snug. I can usually wear my ultra heavy flannel closed when I haven't eaten a while, but after a big meal, I usually wear it open. For jeans, I was able to nail the sizing on my 21oz 1955S-OD Tag size 40 and 21oz 634S by contacting IH after I submitted my order and asked to find a pair that were closest to my measurements and they happily obliged by sourcing a pair that were 41 in the waist... I have massive calf and thighs so I am limited to only straight cuts. Ironhearts and 25oz Samurais are my absolute favorite fitting pair denim, followed by Studio D'artisan and RRL.

21oz Iron Heart denim or the Iron Heart UHF (ultra heavy flannel) shirts. For a more reasonably priced choice, I love my old Carhartt Detroit jacket. Red Wing 8829 for boots. Any of these would qualify as my most loved, comfortable, and durable clothing and footwear pieces. I think I covered all the bases - pants, shirts, jacket, and boots.

Raw Denim was always BIFL, go with a Japanese brand like Oni, Pure Blue Japan, The Flat Head, Momotaro, or Iron Heart. Buy a looser fit for the drape, to allow tons of room for shrinkage, and to let the fabric breathe when worn. Wash them regularly (every few months at least). Hang dry. They will last 10-20 years or longer, and will get more comfortable/look better with each wear.

Levi is not quality any more. Sorry. They are heavily outsourced to several third world factories, have little QC, and poor stitching. You fell for the trap many of us (including me) do, which is trusting a brand name with heritage. There are many vendors that sell quality denim jackets, but they take research to find. Iron Heart is the first that comes to mind. Doesn't get much better than that.
