I wouldn’t have expected it from looking at it but I have to throw another vote in for the JBL Flip 4 that another commenter suggested. I’ve had mine 5+ years now and it has been through the wringer and is still kicking! Hard to say for certain on the toddler aspect.. my youngest was in early elementary by the time I got it. While kid roughness was one of the situations it has come out of victorious, sometimes toddlers manage mind blowing magic that brings destruction to the most unbelievable things.

i bought a JBL flip 4 in 2017, and used it to listen to music / announce my presence to motorists while i was cycling. the flip series is almost the perfect size to fit into a bike water cage. _**almost.**_ needless to say, she's taken multiple tumbles over thousands of miles, year-round. "dozens" would not be an understatement. almost all of them just bouncing off onto asphalt, at-speed. i once hit a sharp bridge lip and the flip bounced off of a bridge beam into a ravine. luckily it was easy to find because i could hear it echoing up through the creek water when i bumped the volume up to max lol in 2020, i took the Flip 4 back into bestbuy to swap it for a fresh replacement, because it had a no-questions-asked warranty attached to it. it still worked fine, the battery still lasted as long as it did when i bought it as far as i could tell, but the ruggedized outer shell had no shortage of scrapes and the speaker meah had a fair number of tears from taking a few too many headlong cartwheels across the bike path at 20-odd mph. by then, they only had Flip 5's, so that's what i queued up for the swap. I expected the associate to take the old 4, but they didn't. i walked out with both. i bequeethed the battle-hardened Flip 4 unto my younger sibling's commuter bike and took the fresh Flip 5 as my own. Both of them are still going strong to this day. the 4 is approaching 10 years old. My sibling also subjects the speaker to much more perilous outdoorsing than i ever did. Despite a storied history of battle scars, sticker residue, DIY speaker mesh darning--and being so thoroughly sunbleached that it's now roughly the shade of grey the toddler is wearing in this pic you used--it still works. my aib has felt no desire to replace it. My Flip 5 is also still going strong, but she is generally subjected to much less danger on any given day lol i'd say get a used Flip 4 in this particular use-case. i genuinely believe one of the reasons that my/my sibling's Flip 4 has survived so long is because JBL had the presence of mind to include a ruggedized silicone port cover that shields the charging port and the aux cable. if i hadn't gotten it for basically 20$, i never would have traded it for a Flip 5, because the 5's ports are fully exposed to the elements at all times. so you have to be a bit more tedious with it. whereas whenever the Flip 4 took a dive into silty creek water, i was always reasonably confident that the delicate parts were still undamaged and dry. and i was never disappointed on that front~ hope that helps!

If you want actually waterproof, Jaybird Vista 2 is the safest bet. Built like a tank, stable fit, solid sound, decent ANC. JBL Reflect Flow Pro is a close second with better battery and comfort. Sony WF-SP800N sounds good but feels dated.

The best bluetooth speaker worth buying now? (sound quality and portability)
when you say best i’m assuming budget isn’t really an issue, so i’d lean toward something like the JBL Charge 5 it’s IP67 water-and-dust resistant, gets impressively loud, has solid battery life (up to ~20 hours), and even works as a power bank so you can charge your phone. but honestly, there are always caveats: bigger speakers = more capable sound but less pocketable; super portable ones sacrifice bass; even waterproof doesn’t always mean full submersion for long. personally, i’d recommend grabbing one [from Amazon](https://dk5cnflyn7mcb.cloudfront.net/?q=GMKAO1043) the selection is huge, you’ll often find good deals (or refurb units), and returns are easier too if you end up not loving it or want to test it out

Those nothing over the ear are fantastic great price for sound quality- unsure on strength of product as they just barely came out but holding up very will with the included case. I personally love my JBL over the ear small and snug so they don't really move around even when mowing and edging

If you’re looking for quality v price, I would be investigating wired headphones. - Grado SR60 (open back) - Sennheiser HD280 (closed back) Those are gonna be your best bet for sound quality and price. If you are looking for wireless and ANC, your choices under $100 are gonna be notably worse, audio quality-wise. Thats just the nature of that price point. The Anker headphones are fine for the price. A couple other good options: - JBL tune 670nc - Sony WH-CH270n

It sounds like you have plenty of answers, but I’ll throw this in the mix. I bought 20 dollar JBL headphones off amazon (JBL Tune on the case) about 18 months ago and haven’t noticed any lesser quality than when I purchased them. I use them 10+ hours 4 days a week while I work, and hit over 100,000 minutes listened to Spotify a year, not including any other app. They’re by far the most consistent pair I’ve ever had and I’ve had quite a lot.

JBL speakers are as close to BIFL as you can get with Bluetooth speakers. Built like bricks, great battery. I had a charge 3 that died after 4 years (because my dumbass left it outside for a month when I thought it was inside.) Went ahead and sprang the money for the boombox, I think I overdid it. It's not a boombox, it's basically a PA system.

This one still runs on the original battery. If I keep the volume around 50% or less it will run all day (~ 8hrs) without needing a charge. Cranking the volume up higher, which I rarely do will drain it a lot quicker, to the tune of just a couple hours. But no, still the original battery doing its thing just fine for what I need it for. Afaik, the battery is pretty cheap and easy to replace, I'm just hesitant to do so and risking ruining the water resistance

Disaster preparedness that actually is useful
The things I use in emergencies from major hurricanes to minor power outages or boil water advisories are all things I use frequently outside of emergencies as well: 1) Office water cooler with three 5 gallon jugs in rotation. I drink healthier when I have cool, good tasting water on hand. When bad weather is coming I make sure all three are filled. I refill them at kiosks at the grocery stores for $1.60 or exchange them at home improvement stores for prefilled ones. 2) Propane grill with two tanks in rotation. If the power is out I can boil noodles or heat up canned food. If power is out long term I cook the meat in my freezer that thaws. Whenever one tank runs out I refill it so I always have a spare. 3) Bluetooth speaker with a large enough battery to recharge your phone a few times. I use a JBL at the pool and it doubles as a power bank during emergencies. 4) Cash in small bills. If power is out, some businesses will still open but be cash only. Comes in handy day to day as well. 5) Keep your gas tank full during hurricane season and keep a separate phone charger in your car. A full tank of gas makes evacuation easier and if you stay it’s your source of air conditioning and charging small devices. 6) A basic first aid kit with super glue for makeshift stitches, athletic tape that works better for blisters than band aids and can be used on large wounds, and a bottle of antibiotics you can order online for parrots or fish. Most of these items I use fairly frequently so I never have to worry about the water spoiling or batteries being dead. Your phone has a flashlight. Your car has a radio. You can spend tons of money for prepper items that will sit on your shelf, but this is really all you’ll ever need to last you until help arrives.

JBL Vibe Beams have treated me well for a few years. Some days I use them for most of my 8 hr workday. I also use them for a few hours’ worth of yard work regularly - the heat and sweat and yard debris in the air hasn’t made them crap out yet.

Unfortunately, audio consumer electronics are not BIFL products unless you are looking at passive speakers. Modern devices such as soundbars and WiFi speakers are designed for planned obsolescence with the average age of ~5-7 years (obviously varies with brand and price point). Plus, technology evolves and you may not want to be stuck with an outdated model for long. To answer your question, I would suggest to steer clear of Sonos due to the app and connectivity issues. The brand has taken a hit and there are better options out there. I would also avoid TV brands such as Samsung, LG, Vizio as those companies are not core audio companies. Polk, Klipsch, etc. are also mediocre at best. JBL, Bose, and Bang & Olufsen would be the three that I would recommend. You will have a large choice of models at different price points.

Look up JBL products. My dad, roommate, and sister all have had JBL flip speakers for years with 0 problems. The waterproof speaker has showered with me for over a year, never had a problem even splashing shampoo water directly onto the speaker. I have their overear bluetooth headphones, and they’re great so far. My favorite part is that they can be used wired as well, but the wire is modular, so even if it wears out, you can just buy a new aux cord. This is the most practical aspect and what makes it BIFL for me because it’s always the wires breaking. Also, great prices, tons of options for whatever you want, personalization, etc. And a service center search tool. 6 months warranty for full new replacement, and additional 6 months of “refurbished like-new” replacement

Earplugs For Sleeping

I've had a sound core speaker for years with no problems. i also have a newer JBL that seems just as good. like someone else mentioned, you can get a portable power bank assuming the speaker uses USB to charge, which my JBL does not, but my sound core is a power bank itself

JBL Endurance Peak 3 - Dust and Water Proof they will last. They hook around your ear but they're comfortable and made to be active in. I have the Peak 2's and use them during my trade job every day. Paint and scuffs all over them but they work fine.

Same! AirPods are way too big for my ears. I’ve had some noise canceling JBL EarPods for a few years and they hurt if I wear them all day, but they’re fine for most things I’ve found. They come with multiple sizes of rubber tips and I put them on the smallest one.
