  Looking for a sewing machine to do patches on a cotton jacket.

  Find one second hand if you can. It will be cheaper. Many sewing machine repair people will refurb and sell older ones. Janome is still a good brand but they are pricey new. Same with Juki. Singer now owns pfaff afaik which means they are fairly similar on the inside (according to my repair guy) so there is that.

  Idk what the “heavy duty” series is, but they’re still top haven’t been the number one brand for a long time for commercial machines. Juki has been the best (imo) for decades and remains undefeated for mid level commercial use.

  Is the Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine Really That Bad?

  It's the one you have, so I'd keep using it until you are fed up with it or it needs servicing. I don't think they are worth repairing unless you are willing to learn how yourself, they weren't that amazing to start with. Depends a bit how hard it was used to start with too and how well serviced it was over its lifetime. I don't really think any better or worse than the HD though - so I'd instead save up more for something that would actually be an improvement. (For myself, I upgraded to a Juki, the F-series is quite powerful while still being easy to use.) The trouble is unless you want a sewing machine repair hobby, there is a big gap for new machines between a cheap basic machine and an intermediate (or rather - basic but not cheap!) machine, much like occurs in many hobbies. That "next step up" is a big one pricewise. That said, oh man is it so much nicer to use. Normally swearing for me is one long swearfest and a lot of muttering. I still mutter, but the swearing part is way less now and now just my dumb ass having wrong sides together instead of right sides or some other dumb mistake instead of fabric getting sucked into the feed dogs, machine veering to the right constantly, tension randomly going wonky in the middle of sewing even though I haven't changed a thing...

  I did a google search and tried to find one. Mostly just found the old ones that don't even have a motor.   The old motorized singers in good condition cost well over $1000, and then you also have to hunt down vintage feet and bobbins and hope you can buy needles. The Juki is brand new, you can buy packs of bobbins, and it uses the same feet as Juki industrials.

  What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?

  KleanKanteen, Toyota and Juki. I've use my KleanKanteen daily, for years, and it is in great working shape and keeps my drinks reliably hot/cold all day. My family currently has two Toyotas that have required waaaaaay less work on them than any other vehicles we've had. Juki has been a reliable sewing machine brand for me. Solid machines.
