I shave about 2-3x a week due to my sensitive skin. I use Kai blades (some of the more expensive blades). I bought a 50 pack a few years ago. I think I’m halfway through it. One thing I suggest buying is a blade bank. Safe, affordable and easy to way to store and dispose of old blade. They’re like $3. You could also just use a soda can and tape it up when you’re done, but the blade bank looks nicer.

My Gingher Scissor Collection
Both 9.5” one Nihonbashi KIYA the other Shozaburo Tobasami. The Tobasami are the god of scissors super rich in history tied with the samurai sword or something cool like that haha. Honestly though my Kai 7250 are the best pair of scissors I’ve ever wielded. I do a ton of sewing which led to a bit of scissor collecting. I have a bunch more too pretty much every major producer.

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
I got a KAI nail clipper during a trip to Japan, and it’s been exceptional. Not only does it cut cleanly, but its sharpness has held up impressively over the years. Honestly, I can’t imagine using any other clipper now.

Knife set for Christmas
I don't necessarily know the best purchase channels for Canada since it doesn't always overlap with the US, but if you want a good value priced set that's served many restaurant chefs get some Victorinox / Forschner foodservice knives. Go for an 8 or 10 inch chef's. Maybe a santoku. Medium and small paring knife or tomato knife. Maybe a bread knife. And a diamond sharpening steel. That should be good enough for at least a few decades of heavy use for less than $300. For extra credit get a Victorinox peeler and a Kai DH3345 kitchen shears.

Nail clippers recommendation?
When I was a kid I’d always go to 7/11 in Tokyo with my mom to get some snacks, I think I was 10 when I saw a pair of black Kai nail clippers and spent my allowance money on that for whatever reason 10 year old me decided I wanted nail clippers. Brought them to the us and I’m still using them 13 years later, have never been able to find anything that even comes close to these

What are the best scissors for everyday use?
I work in fashion, I have cut thousands of meters of fabric over the years, and after going through ginghams, fiskars, and vintage shears, I stand by the [Kai 7000 series](https://kaiscissors.com/products/all-kai-scissors/7000-series-scissors/). I’ve had mine for 10 years now, have had to sharpen it maybe 4 times. Offset design with a drop-point for accurate cuts, full tang, super lightweight, super comfortable, super hard steel with sharpest edge I’ve ever seen. Glides like butter. Just super. The 5000 series is fine for paper, that’s what I used in fashion school, but there’s a huge jump in build quality to the 7000.

I can say that I have enjoyed using my Kai dressmaker shears and paper specific scissors. They are definitely BIFL since they are able to be sharpened. I also like my Kai knives. I was able to buy the scissors and shears on sale from their website.

Kitchen knife for personal use
Similar to the Vic Fibrox series in a loose sense (same class of handle materials and blade steel) but in a different form factor (Japanese-style handles, geometry, etc) is the [Kai Wasabi series](http://www.amazon.com/Kai-Wasabi-Black-Yanagiba-4-Inch/dp/B0016GZA3O). It's not BIFL in the "this is going to wear and patina and be a great heirloom" sense, but they are really, really good at twice the price. I've picked up a couple (deba + yanagiba) and used the hell out of them and they've displaced knives many times more expensive. I also bought a few as a gift for a friend graduating culinary school; several years and sharpenings later, they still look and work very well!
