  Keela make some decent stuff. They supply kit to the police and mountain rescue teams and are fairly priced considering the quality.

  Best women’s parka without down insulation

  We bought my wife a primaloft (synthetic down) coat from Keela which a a Scottish brand that supply uk mountain rescue. I’ve also got their men’s insulated jacket. Both are extremely warm. (Uk winter suitable) They have good support for repairs as well though there may be charges for this. Didriksons is another brand that have lasted me well and do long women’s coats.

  Winter Jacket - 18 Year Old Asking for Advice!

  Germany is very similar to Scotland in the sense that it's both cold and wet. For outdoor clothing my go-to brand is Keela, they're made here in Scotland. So I have both their Munro jacket which is a waterproof hard shell, used by virtually every mountain rescue team as well as being issued to specialist police, military, medical units etc. it's heavyweight but I've never once managed to get wet inside while wearing it! I also have their Belay Pro jacket, it's a synthetic primaloft gold jacket which works really well at keeping you warm - it doesn't have a hood though, which is why I also bought their Solo jacket, the solo also has a bit of a lower cut to cover your backside! I much prefer synthetic, yes it's not as warm as down, doesn't pack as small, is heavier etc. but I'm not looking for a jacket I can squash in my bag to climb everest, I want something good for daily wear. The big bonus especially in this climate where it's constantly either damp or pouring down is that it still works when wet, both the belay and solo have fairly water resistant outers that can work without a hardshell in all but the heaviest rain. If you go for the munro and you aren't wearing it over a proper heavy duty bulky midlayer you're better sizing down, I'm a 46" chest, wear at least extra large in everything, but can easily wear an XL belay jacket underneath a large munro jacket with plenty of room! As for the BIFL part - I've had both of them for coming up 10 years in the next few months and they're not looking brand new anymore, but for doing the job of keeping me dry and warm they still work very well and that's with wearing at least one of them virtually daily for 10 years both commuting and at work.
