Best desktop speakers to buy?
For desktop speakers when budget isn’t an issue, there are a few solid directions depending on what matters most to you. For everyday music and general PC use, powered bookshelf speakers are a great balance of sound quality and simplicity. Something like the Audioengine A5+ or Vanatoo Transparent One Encore gives you clean audio in a compact form, no external amp required. Another route is the [SteelSeries Arena 9](https://lampasul.github.io/link-redirector/?to=arena9). It’s a complete 5.1 surround kit. It has wireless rear speakers, a dedicated sub, and RGB that syncs with what’s on screen. It delivers that immersive surround sound experience without needing a whole home theater system. In case you’re chasing audiophile clarity and soundstage the KEF LSX II or LS50 Wireless II are in another league. They cost more, but nothing else in this size class matches their precision. Perfect if you want your desk setup to double as a serious hi-fi system. Klipsch The Sixes have more character. They have a retro design that looks good in a mixed office/living room space. They’re less clinical than the KEFs but still very capable for both music and media. So really, it comes down to whether you want immersive surround for gaming and media (SteelSeries), plug-and-play simplicity (Audioengine/Vanatoo), or a more serious hi-fi experience (KEF route). Personally, the immersive experience works for me because the dedicated rear channels and a sub add depth that stereo systems can’t match.

My 50+ year old KEF BBC LS3/5A. Keeping them for at least another 50.
Good lord, Sonos don't really sound good compared to Kef, Klipsch, Naim, Mordant short, etc. when you listen to "separates" you're in a whole new world of audio compared to Sonos. Sonos definitely produce a nice sound with soundbar for TV audio and a bright sound for remote audio but you get into listening to old KLH, KEF, B & O, numerous others and it's worlds different.

What brands do you trust to always deliver a high quality product?
KEF speakers. Triumph motorcycles. I would have put McIntosh electronics on the list but they just got bought by Bose so not optimistic about the future.

List your 3 favorite BIFL items and at least 1 regret or fail
Opinel knife => cheap and resistant Kef speakers => still going hard and no sign of breaking Wesco waste bin => it's for garbage and it IS garbage, cheap, expensive, full of chrome-plated plastics. Don't buy any of their new shit.
