Please help me decide which one gets to stay and which ones should be returned.
Coffee machines are very personal preference things. My instant ones have always died on me eventually If you like convenience then I think I’d go with a Keurig. In my experience they last about 4-5 years. Never had a ninja coffee machine. The dual brew seems cool if you would use all of those features. Otherwise just more possibilities to break. IMO the simpler the machine for your needs the better. Love my other ninja things though.

I had a Cuisinart coffee maker with built in grinder that lasted 20 years. Used it at least 3 times a week to make a full port of coffee, sometimes several pots in a day when entertaining or on weekends, We had a couple of Keurigs that died pretty quickly. Best Keurig tip I got was to buy the Commercial line, which did last longer than the others. But, still just over two years. When the Cuisinart with grinder finally died, I got a Cuisinart machine that does pods and regular coffee. It has already outlasted the cheaper Keurigs. And I’ll just say that I consider anything from Ninja disposable. Every product we’ve had (all gifts, none were purchased by us) has been damaged in a way that is a food safety issue within a year.

Single serve coffee makers for the low motivated
They do make reusable pods for the Keurig. Fill with what ever ground coffee you wish. I think my Keurig is about ten years old. I have been using it since 2019 after my father passed. Pretty sure he had it for five years prior. I am pretty sure the reason it has lasted as long as it has is because I don't ever use tap water. I have had my other coffee machine for 15 years now ( and I bought it at a thrift store so I am not exactly sure how old it really is- it was a pretty high end machine when I last looked it up though) and newer run tap water thru that one either.

Single serve coffee maker
What keurig were you using cuz i havent heard of them breaking down so easily. I think they might not have been cleaned properly because a lot of the issues come from mineral buildup or clogging in the internal tubing(especially if you’re using tap water). then the heating element and pump just get gunked up which actually causes them to stop brewing or leak. So maybe its this and not some machine issue. Anyways for ease id recc switching to something that doesn’t rely on pods. like [this brewer](https://TrendzHive.github.io/Grabbit/?to=single_serve_coffee_maker) is single serve n uses ground coffee so its easier to mantain. These kinds basically have fewer electronic parts which means they don’t get clogged as easily. Also they make better coffee imo. try descaling it every 1–2 months and using filtered or bottled water instead of tap. Also a french press is a good low maintenance backup so keep that too.

What is your most unintentional BIFL item?

Nespresso is about the closest to actual espresso you’re going to get from pods, because they actually work up a pressure for the coffee rather than the kcups. The espresso you get from kcups is just the “strong” setting where it pumps slower to let it sit in the grounds longer. Personally I like my nespresso because I use it often enough to justify it, but not often enough to be hurt by the cost of the pods. Good news is you can ship used pods back to them for recycling and get high discounts. If you’re doing pods I’d recommend a keurig, simply because they will have the best support for warranty, replacement parts and for the filters. For actual BIFL coffee making that’s not using plastic waste for everything, get a hand grinder and either a pour over or French press. Or go with an aeropress as there’s only one “moving” part and I’ve yet to hear bad things about them. If you don’t care about plastic waste, just get a keurig and do the maintenance routine, or go for a basic Mr. Coffee brewer. You can even get the smaller one that only does a few cups at a time. Espresso machines require more work than most people realize, and that’s why we don’t care about spending a few dollars at a coffee shop.

Go to the goodwill and buy a used Keurig for $30 or less. Run a half rank of vinegar through it and enough tanks of water to flush the vinegar. You just saved a shit ton of money and you have a real Keurig.

What home coffee essentials have held up and lasted you over time?
I'll probably get some hate, but I love my Keurig and re-usable k-cups. I've had this Keurig for about 6 years now, and I buy a new 4-pack of re-usable k-cups every couple years. I get to use my own brand of coffee (Pete's Major Dickason) and toss the grounds in the compost.
