Are upholstered bar stools a bad idea for a kitchen?
We're "buy it for life" kinda people, so we got barstools from Knoll that use Sunbrella fabric for the webbing. Expensive, but we've already had them 10 years and they look new. Expect they will outcast us and out kids will wind up with them 🤣

This is entirely based on your body and personal comfort. Steelcase, Herman Miller and Knoll all make great chairs that can be had for <$300 secondhand. But you need to try them out. Just picking an Aeron may not work.

Buy Once Cry Once items?
I hate that chair. Our office bought all new chairs and I hated it. I asked for a Leap V2 instead and the Leap works so much better for my body. Prior to this, we had Knoll chairs and those were comfortable as well. No idea why they decided to get rid of all the Knoll chairs to buy $1800 HM chairs for over 3,000 employees. Such a waste of money.

(Request) BIFL Furniture stores?
We're in ATL and have picked up a few pieces from our local store. Emeco's Navy Chair defines BIFL in my opinion. I don't see our Womb Chair & Ottoman, Platner Side Table, Eames Molded Fiberglass Side Chair, or other pieces falling apart in our lifetime. Or going out of style. Much of the rest of our furniture is mid-century stuff that's older than us and was purchased used. Some needed to be recovered, but it's otherwise going strong. Stuff from then and contemporary Knoll & Herman Miller is built to last. Materials and assembly are solid.

Price doesn't matter—check out [Design Within Reach](http://www.dwr.com/). Stuff like the Emeco Navy chair will outlast your grand children. Knoll and Herman Miller also build bombproof stuff.
