SAFE alternative to Bunn MyCafe Coffee Maker?
I use the KRUPS Essential Brewer. It's SCA certified, and brews like a pour-over. I've been using it for 3 years so far with zero issues and a consistently good cup.

Looking for BIFL spice grinder - to use for spices, seeds, etc.
krups spice and coffee grinder have been amazing for me. And cheap. Not sure if they are still built to the same quality, but I'm still using one that's 20 years old note - good for spices, not for coffee. Cheapest decent BIFL coffee grinder is probably 600 or more, I haven't looked recently

Black and Decker Coffee Bean Grinder
This looks just like the Krups that I have. Perhaps rebranded? Lousy for coffee, but perfect for peppercorns when making bacon. I've had mine for decades, and bought it in a yard sale.

Name your top 5 BIFL items
1. Victorinox Chef Knife. Have used the same one for over 40 years. 2. Revere copper-clad pans. Got them as a wedding gift 45 years ago. The only downside is that they would not work on an induction stove. 3. Native plants and/or succulents 4. Victorinox multi-tool/knife. Have used the same one for almost 60 years. 5. Krups grinder

Electric Tea Kettle?
We've had a Krupa Smart Kettle 1.7L for 5 years of daily use and love it. Only downside is that there are only 5 temperature presets. Stainless inside was a must for us. https://a.co/d/37ei3RX

What’s something you’ve had so long it feels like it’s legally part of your family
I'm 36 and have had my Krups espresso maker since I was 14. We've been through multiple moves up and down the eastern seaboard, went to college together, lots of jobs, two marriages, two divorces. It's my ride or die side bitch.

UK Rice Cooker that has a good keep warm function
I love my cookoo rice cooker, which is from Korea. However, the German brand Krups makes rice booker with keep warm function, and it is decent.

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
Krups 2000 hand mixer from 1987, old Pyrex 12 cup mixing bowl, Henkel knives from 1985, Dansk cutting boards (classic) and a few pieces of Dansk Købenstyle bakeware. My parents loved Dansk. I was also lucky enough to inherit very old cast iron.

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
I turning into a goth-adjacent emo coffee snob as a 14 year old teenager 34 years ago. Refused drip coffee and made myself a cappuccino every morning with freshly ground espresso beans. The Krupps coffee grinder is still with me, still used every morning to grind for my drip coffee. I know there are better, higher regarded grinder out there, but this one has never failed and still does the job. Even the plastic cover is original.

Krups makes extremely good and sturdy appliances in my experience. In the past my parents had a hand mixer by Krups for about 30 years until they got a new one from WMF which couldn't hold a candle to the Krups one. When we realised that, my sister had already adopted the Krups one (and still uses it to this day, another 10 years later). So they got a new one from Krups, and it seems to be as excellent and sturdy as the old one. Slightly different (but still sturdy and easily cleanable) design, but the same apart from that. Krups is my go to brand for small kitchen appliances. Miele for large appliances (dish washer, washing machine, dryer, oven). Miele has also not yet disappointed us in 30 years. They also have a good policy for replacement parts, that after an appliance is no longer produced, parts will still be guaranteed to be available for 15 years after the series goes out of production. And after that, they don't toss the extra parts, so you might still be lucky after that time period passes, so a call for a replacement part is not a bad idea.

What's the oldest appliance you own?
Amana bottom freezer refrigerator bought in 1990. No repairs, one fan clean up. Best refrigerator in the house, always (has gone with us through 3 houses but it's relegated to the garage since kids arrived. Too small) We also have a 25 year old Krups drip coffee maker in use every day. Still have my parents cloth cord small appliances like iron and waffle maker.

Looking for a good waffle maker
I was using this [Krups waffle maker](https://casuallyreviewed.com/krumps-iron) and another one during a breakfast for dinner party. On the Krups, the waffles came out golden brown and fluffy, you can set the temperature for how light or dark brown you want them. There was a timer to let me know when it was warmed up and another one to let me know it was down cooking. The other waffle maker didn't have a timer so I forgot about it and I burnt my waffles. The best thing about the Krups is that it makes 4 large waffles, so my family of 4 can eat a hot waffle at the same time.

My 8 cup Bonavita is holding up well. The **Krups Classic Brewmaster** held up for 15 years.

Sandwich maker with solid closing mechanism?
Krups. German engineering at its finest. Sadly they made it out of cast iron which will break if you drop it, but how often do you drop a sandwich maker? (Once in my case, so i just bought a new one. ;)) [Krups FDK 452 Sandwichtoaster Sandwichmaker | Kaufland.de](https://www.kaufland.de/product/200963531/)

What home coffee essentials have held up and lasted you over time?
My Krups coffee grinder has been in daily use since… maybe 1990. Definitely between 1989 and 1992. I have a Bodum electric kettle that I got on clearance at Target in the mid-90s as well. It’s been in all my offices since. It’s just a basic electric kettle, but it’s very stylish and it still gets compliments from co-workers.
