  Rain coat - no peeling does it exist?

  The peeling occurs due to not washing it and the oils that accumulate. Look for a 3 Layer shell instead of the 2.5 layer junk, and use Tech wash for cleaning it. Kuiu Makes great 3 layer shells, that can be purchased in earth tones or in black. I recommend getting one size up for laying.   Yeah when you get those kind of temps, your not gonna be breathing under the coat. And too many layers will equal no mobility. Think Michelin man. I would look at kuiu. The best tips are gonna be to keep your feet and your neck warm. Klim Arctic balaclava is a good one. Darn tough makes hunting socks that are super thick. Whatever you do, DO NOT WEAR STEEL TOES! You will regret ever being born it hurts that bad.

  Mushroom hunting pants?

  I have a kuiu set. They make awesome gear but even those have pulls and i really like to keep them for hunting. Idk companies just dont make womens gear as durable for some reason. My man's set is still in great shape. Maybe it's me and I just dont baby mine lol

  Arc’teryx Alpha SV – BIFL or planned obsolescence? Need advice before pulling the trigger

  I have a similar age Alpha SV and a \~2020 Beta AR. The Alpha SV has had 10x as much abuse as the Beta but has held up better, I've heard their quality went downhill a little when most manufacturing moved from Canada but the Alpha SV is still made there? The seam tape came loose in the hood of my Beta after 2 years, I used some tent seam glue to stick it back down and touched up a few spots that were just starting to lift on the \~12 year old Alpha. Put some self adhesive goretex repair patches around the zipper closure at the collar where it had started to wear and have given it a few nikwax treatments, otherwise still a solid jacket that will handle a rough day. I also have a LEAF Atom Gen2 hoody which I've worn almost daily from autumn to spring for the last 4 years, also holding up well despite being climbed in, bashed through brush, salt water and UV exposure etc. Perfect amount of breathable insulation and wind resistance for being active in 0-10c/30-50f without being too hot. Have had good experiences with RAB and KUIU gear too, customer support from RAB was great.

  what winter coat are yall using?

  Got a super nice Kuiu light grey jacket one year. Just happened to be on their website and got it on clearance for like $90. Has been the best cold weather jacket I’ve ever had. Has a nice almost microfiber material inside and the outside is a heavy ripstop type fabric. I’d have to check the exact model but I’ve worn it down in the 5-20 degree range and been plenty warm, snow and everything.

  Can't decide on a backpack

  My very dull and old-fashioned take on it: Buy your backpack for carrying comfort. All the clever solutions in the world don't mean a thing if the bag is uncomfortable to carry. I'd buy Osprey in your case, and only have positive experiences with Osprey. I have a Farpoint 40 for shorter trips. It's great to pack in if you use packing cubes, and has a very good laptop compartment that's easy to take the laptop in and out of, like when you're going through security. Very good carrying comfort, well thought-out solutions (love how you can pack the straps away), probably overkill for a school backpack. I've also got an Aether 85+ for hiking trips, and also has great carrying comfort. Used it last summer, was amazed at how comfortable it was when it was fitted properly. The packs themselves aren't waterproof, you'll need a rain cover for that. Lucky for you, they pack down very compact and are very light, so you'll hardly notice them at all. For your consideration, there's also Kuiu's day packs, the Venture series. They're hunting day packs, but the carrying comfort is the best I've ever experienced. It's like getting a nice hug from behind. No laptop pocket, but you could use the hydration bladder pocket for it if you have to. Some of them come in darker shades of gray, brown and green, otherwise it's camo for you. Might be a bit expensive to get from the US if you're in Oz, I don't know about that. Some features you probably won't need in school, like attachment points for their very lightweight gun carrying system. Same as with Osprey, you need a separate rain cover. For your zipper problems: Could it be that you're over-stuffing your bag, causing extra stress on the zippers as you close it? If so, you might want a bigger bag than the one you currently have, and take care with how you load it.
