Boots for NYC puddle jumping
I love my bean boots for this and have been wearing them for ten years in all sorts of cold weather and precipitation. I go for a light/mid insulation

Boots for NYC puddle jumping
You’re probably going to want something taller. Although they tend to be a bit heavier, the height is needed when in the depths of winter or depths of NYC puddles - Sorell Joan Of Arctic - Wellies: Hunter, Bogs, LL Bean *Notes* - ^ Hunter sells a liner sock for warmth - LL 🫘 has something like Yaktrax specifically designed for the bean boot. These work great on ice, but not on cement. - Sorel tends to run small for me - I’d suggest sizing up a whole size for boots. Your toes and feet need room so they don’t get cold. - Also be sure to wear a wool or merino wool sock. I’m a fan of Bombas. I heard Darn Tough is good too. I like smartwool, but they tend to wear out. Thankfully, you can send back for replacement. - Additionally, you can add a sock liner (REI & I’m sure other brands have them). Much like a glove liner, they are thinner but add a lot more warmth. - Lastly, consider wearing different pants (fleece lined sweats or leggings, snow pants) when commuting & changing once at work or your destination

stretchy, skintight, preferably natural fiber, long-sleeved women's "base layer"?
Silk is perfect for this! I have a few of those LL Bean ones and they're great under wool sweaters - no itching and they wash super easy compared to the fancy stuff on top

LL Bean flannel pajama bottoms. If you want to be really extra, get the fleece lined ones.

Actually warm pyjama pants
Look for 100% cotton flannel or heavyweight brushed cotton, not ‘cotton blend.’ The blends are always thin. I’ve had the best luck with LL Bean flannel pajama pants and lands end-actually warm.

Owned LL Bean and icebreaker. LL Bean held up very nicely after 4 years, icebreaker started to break around 2 years. Regular handwashing for both.

LL Bean Engineer boots (2013, top) vs 2025 "Bucksport" (bottom). Am I crazy or are these a drop in construction quality?
A year ago, my wife got her second pair of LLBean Cresta Hikers. The first pair lasted over 25 years with avid mountain hiking. Her second pair lasted a year with walking the dog around the block. So sad. I don’t even shop there anymore.

Currently on sale for $50! Wish they had more understated patterns/colors though. One of these would be the loudest thing in my living room/bedroom, by far. https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/82203546/oversized-down-throw Considering the LL Bean ultra plush down throw instead for that reason although it’s triple the price 😭 https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/1157?page=blankets-and-throws

The Best Kids' Clothes Right Now?
LL Bean kids clothes are durable and last years. But my kids outgrow them so fast it’s hardly worth it. We usually just buy Amazon brand, Primark or Cat and Jack from Target, they tend to be more affordable then a lot of secondhand stores and they last for as long as they outgrow them - about 6 months to a year.

The Best Kids' Clothes Right Now?
Hanna Anderson for clothes and Plae shoes. Someone gave me some used clothes and shoes by these brands and the fabrics hold up. I started buying them during sale times (like now), and have been for at least 5 years. There's no pilling, and the only reason they stop being wearable is damange (grease stains, paint, kid made cuts or holes) or being outgrown. Even in the sizing for HA you get more time in the clothes. Plae shoes last over a school year of hard wear and tear. LL bean also has an rain coat and rain shoes that seem to last forever (my kiddo would still be wearing them if he hadn't outgrown them).

Reasonably priced natural fiber clothing
I'm kind of in love with LL Bean's pants, bags, outerwear, but I'm super picky about their t-shirts, I wish I liked them a bit more. They make great nightshirts though.

Reasonably priced natural fiber clothing
I’ve had good success with LL Bean women’s basics like their supima cotton tees and the like. Haven’t tried a long sleeve shirt but I know they make various styles of the same material so might be worth a try! I know “reasonably priced” is different to everyone but they are on sale frequently and I think worth the money As for jeans, honestly, my 2 favorite pairs are currently men’s Levi’s. They’re 100% cotton which is harder to find in the women’s styles and they have real pockets!

The 21st Century Ruined Everything 😭
Up your budget, look into Red Wing boots. Depending on what you’re looking for, I’d also pick up some Bean Boots for the winter (fur lined). I’ve had my Red Wings for about 10 years now, bean boots for 6. For coats, it all depends on what you want/need and what climate. Are we talking a coat for 0F temps? Get an insulated jacket and a fleece sweater to layer. I’m going to be buying a nice one for myself likely next year, but right now I use an insulated Patagonia better sweater that I got off eBay for like $50, works great and super warm even down to those super low temps. Will replace with something nicer but I’m spending a lot of cash on winter running gear. So that’s a next season upgrade.

Try LL bean for coats. If you want to go cheaper, try fb marketplace or vintage shops. You might even find last century models. Lol Try Lowa’s renegade hiking boots. It’s a Canadian brand REI sells them. I have a pair that have lasted. Comfortable and good in snow.

What to look for on Vinted
Absolutely second Pendleton and Barbour, those are solid picks that'll last forever. Also keep an eye out for old LL Bean stuff - their vintage wool pieces are tanks and usually way cheaper than the new stuff

Winter Coat recommendations?
Mine is the Baxter State parka from LL Bean. I’m in Canada and can’t see the US price, but ours is C$529, so probably above your price range in USD. I never expect to have to buy another serious winter coat, though. The only issue is that they used to come in fire-engine red, but that’s no longer offered, sadly.

Best winter parka money can buy?
I backcountry ski, had lyme disease (more sensitive temps now), and live way up in the mountains. Its -9f right now. Layering is your friend. I often wear a Patagonia Nano Air jacket or vest under a down in cold weather. I'm a Patagonia girl because they repair their items which is awesome. Busted zippers replaced like new for 5 bucks shipping. For me a fleece lined parka is the warmest but its hard to find fleece lined down parka (Patagonia has made them, llbean makes one currently) so I just wear a fleece under a down. Keeping my bum covered is key, I'm assuming your Parka is already long but go for an extra long model. Get a warm fluffy hat and a neck gaiter. I'm cold unless my neck is covered!

I highly recommend going on Poshmark if she already has some favorites that have lasted and knows her size in that brand. I've gotten some great deals there on LL Bean, Brooks Brothers, and Banana Republic clothes that are reasonably well made as a petite woman.

Extreme / Very cold winter weather gloves?
i have been preaching about the need for a modular system for a decade. Most people have gloves, many have mittens, but the game changer is an overmitt. Every once in a while, you can find a good overmitt, but usually they come in a system like Outdoor Research's AltiMItt and Black Diamond's mitt. I always peruse all the outdoor gear surplus stuff or look specifically for mitts when I head to gear places like REI, EMS, or any ski shop. Used ski gear shops are also awesome. I have had REI, EMS, and LL Bean thinsulate mitts i just slid over my regular gloves and mittens and they immediately leveled up the comfort level to -20 to -30 easily. Last year, I found my holy grail - a \*leather\* overmitt made by OR that i found in a bin of used gear for sale. It's awesome and my fingers have never been more comfortable. My only complaint is that this mitt is just large and doesn't fit into my flexi dog leash well. Works well with when i ski though. My recommendation is to use up to 3 layers in that type of cold you're talking about. A thin woolen layer, a thin-ish glove or mitten, followed by an overmitt. I have a pair of Arteryx gloves (a two layer system) with a thin LLBean overmitt thats super for walking the dog on -10 nights.

When you hit a certain age, ahem, those bell bottoms are still in the closet. My tight fitting stuff just got rotated to the back. I also don’t care about fashion too much. I need to be comfortable, have pockets and look professional at work. I love my dresses in the summer, wool sweaters in the winter. LL bean starfish slacks are a workhorse. Affordable BIFL womens clothing?
I'm not sure that BIFL and clothing go together. To me, quality clothing means natural materials. Linen, silk, hemp, cotton, and wool. With care, those materials can last a long time, but not indefinitely. What I do is buy most of my clothing used, and I stick with Eileen Fisher and older LL Bean. I've found that those two brands seem to last, as long as I know how to fix a small hole, replace a button, and perform similar small repairs.

Idk if this would be good for the work you’re wanting to do. I got a pair of LL Bean Boots with thinsulate lining for warmth. They also sell shearling wool insoles for further warmth. Wool coat for the Northeast
You could say the same about Filson. Both companies have a few signature items that they've always built well and continue to be build well. LL Bean and Filson both make a lot of strange overpriced junk that is a result of private equity boards. Things like the river diver shirt, classic barn coat or maine guide parka are still as good. Filson moved tin cloth cruiser production to Bangladesh, they are still solid. Their MiUSA stuff is solid. What you can't say about these brands is that their entire catalog is solid like you could have back in the day.

If you started your wardrobe over from scratch, what would you buy? (US)
Wool, cotton, silk, cashmere, alpaca. Natural fibers constructed well. I would focus only on classic brands I love that hold up forever: Pendleton, LL Bean, Orvis, Duluth, Barbour, Levis, Ralph Lauren, Max Mara, St. John, Lafayette 148, some Brooks Brothers, vintage Armani. I would thrift more. I would buy more classic basics. Wish I would have known about fabrics and good construction in my 20s.

If you started your wardrobe over from scratch, what would you buy? (US)
Curious why you ask. Then saw your prior post and wondering if this is for your wife. I’m having a similar surgery in a month and my body will likely change and my entire wardrobe need replacing so I’ve thought about this a lot. Seems like most of the people replying are likely male-identifying which may not help you if your goal is to help her transition to a new body shape. So I will offer you my female perspective: I follow the rule of 3: 1 casual, 1 dressy, 1 somewhere in between I would own three of each of the following: 1. Jeans that I absolutely love that go with everything. One lightweight and one heavyweight that’s a size larger so I can layer underneath it. 2. Colored pants. I have two linen blend trousers for summer but I wish I had two cotton chinos for winter that were colored neutrals. 3. Less long sleeve casual layering tees, replaced instead with sleeved shirts with some kind of visual interest appropriate for a date or the office or a girls night. It’s easier to find these for summer, and so difficult to find for winter. I would get the artist-style satiny poly too I have in a silk blend instead so it’s breathable but still shiny. 4. Midi-length skirts in cotton fabrics with adjustable buttons!!! Or elastic. 5. Cotton spandex dresses that are one and done. In a variety of timeless prints. Solids can feel instantly one-note. 6. SHOES THAT I LOVE WALKING IN. Which probably means custom orthotics. I would like: 6a. Suede tall shaft boots 6b. Brown booties 6c. Gold Mary Janes 6d. Leopard loafers 6e. White canvas tennies 6f. Snow boots! 7. I would get a fur-lined hood ultrawarm full length down coat from LL Bean like I have, but by someone who makes it in a less dark color. 8. A cashmere cardigan for every weekday. Two cashmere pullovers for weekends. Really my wardrobe is pretty close to this. I would definitely swap out all of my black pieces for pieces in my best colors. And then it’s more about finding things that don’t make me feel like a slob. For me that’s pieces that are structured or fitted and likely in a pattern or with a textured fabric. Flat cotton/silk/linen/wool looks like shit once you wear it once because it gets out of shape, wrinkled, etc. I would buy blends of those things instead of 100% so that they’re more forgiving. I absolutely regret every 100% linen, silk, and cotton pieces I own. I need at least 1% spandex!

Need help looking for 2 types of coats; A down, and a wool
LL Bean has a down jacket that’s long. I have their ultra light down sweater and their ultra light down jacket and I have been very happy with both of them. I know that L.L. Bean gets shit on because a lot of their products have gone down in quality. and that’s a fair point. But their ultra light down jackets are fantastic and very warm. You should learn about layering. A single garment typically can’t do it all. You will be much warmer with moisture wicking base layers underneath your coat or jacket.

Best Quality of life gift ideas under $150
I got a dark green/maroon LLBean made-in-norway sweater for about 20 bucks some years ago. Cheap because it had some moth holes but I was buying it as a warmth layer with BIFL in mind. Well, maybe 200 days of wear, a dozen washes later and the holes are just as inconsequential as they were when I bought it and if I could only have one sweater that would be it.

“One for all” jacket recommendations
I really like the llbean primaloft travel jacket. It’s my only winter jacket in the mid Atlantic. I went a size up so on very cold days I can wear a hoodie or blazer under it.

Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?
I’ve been buying LLBean and Johnson and Murphy since my early 20s. I still have shirts, multiple that are near brand new with hundreds of washes. Both places have deals and I’ve never paid more than 100 for a shirt or pants. And never more than 200 for a heavy winter jacket. Athletic shoes are another story but I’ve had my Birkenstocks, dress shoes and boots resoled multiple times.

Reusable shopping bags/totes
The LL Bean Canvas tote bags are legendary. Thick, tough cotton canvas, they are truly BIFL. Can be washed, but you probably won't need to. Two tips: (a) you can get them to put a custom monogram or message on it, (b) when new, spray til soaking with ScotchGuard fabric protector (you'll never need to wash it).

Warmest women's jacket?
You've already gotten some good advice on warm outerwear, i would just add that you may want to get two jackets - one that specializes in just cold (down insulation) and one that is warm and made for rain. In my experience, trying to find one that fits both kinds of weathers can be tricky. I have an LL Bean parka that's been great for cold with heavy rain (and wind), and also a down coat that makes me feel like a marshmallow and helps me stay warm with just a regular sweater or a thermal layer as my outfit

Looking for the thinnest and most insulting jacket
I think technically what you're looking for is one of those thinner down jackets. Something that is 100% down with the highest fill number you can find will have the highest warmth per weight. Obviously I'm not talking about the big puffers, but I've worn an older ll bean one for light winter hikes on shorter mountains in the Northeast us where I won't be moving around much and it serves me reasonably well. The one I have is packable so I can take it with me in a small backpack or if I'm doing long overnight hikes in shoulder seasons I'll bring it to keep me warm at camp and then use as a pillow when I'm in my sleeping bag.

I don't know what brand or country of origin your jacket was. But I have a 80s vintage LLBean G1 with intact and elastic cuffs and waistbands, and a 70s Avirex A2 with nearly perfect cuffs and waistband. Both made in USA. But then again, maybe Berlin is special place where knit items don't last.

As a cold-weather public transit commuter that lives in a very large Midwestern city and has to stand on subway platforms in frigid weather every winter, I feel I’m semi-qualified. LL Bean Parka is best bang for buck, and has strong Maine ties. Indoor outdoor slippers?
I have a pair of ll bean scuff slippers which have an okay tread for outdoors, but are too short for several inches of snow. I can’t think of any one type of footwear which lends itself to both the water resistance and tread suitable for several inches of snow and ice and the coziness and comfort you want for lounging around the house. My daughter has uggs which somewhat resemble both boots and slippers but they don’t hold up well to moisture and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them on a buy it for life sub.

Layer or Buy New? Winter Jacket Dilemma in Frankfurt 🤔
I think you've already found your answer; layers! It's a great jacket, and a wool outer coat is perfect for layering inside and will last a long time, I do the same with an LL Bean Wool Peacoat. It's from the 80s and it looks brand new and I get to switch out with fleece, wool sweaters, down hoody, flannels, etc for inner layers depending out how I'm feeling and the temperature. Most dedicated winter jackets I find to be too warm for most days for me and I've donated them.

Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?
I mean, I hear ya, but I have also seen first hand a guy berate an LL Bean employee for pushing back on this guy’s attempt to return a pair of slippers that were, by his admission, at least 10 years old. I would say if you’re going to get LL bean then stick to the products that the brand is known for, scotch plaid flannel shirts, chamois flannel shirts, Ragg wool sweaters, and bean boots that I’ve bought from the company in the last 3 years have all been very high quality. Avoid things with excess synthetics, or anything that doesn’t look like it could’ve been in their catalogue in 1985

Can’t speak to the location of manufacture as I don’t have them with me right now, but in the past years I’ve bought a fair few ll bean wool sweaters, and at least if you opt for the Ragg wool options they are still very high quality for the price.

Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?
A majority of their products are produced overseas now, the quality over the years has diminished significantly while the price point has remained premium. I think their best product is still their famous duck boots which to this day are still made in Maine. Most of their jackets and shirts are nothing compared to what they used to be, they function well but their condition degrades at a much faster pace. You can still find Scottish made LL Bean overshirts and jackets in New England thrifts that were produced some 70 years ago that are still in perfect condition.

Every year for Christmas, my BIL asks for clothes from me. Specifically, we rotate between tshirts, flannel shirts, cotton button downs, jeans, and shoes. Whatever he is in need of, he says "get me more of those xx I like." Hardest part about shopping for him is refinding what I bought him a decade ago. His tshirts of choice are llbean. He says a shirt stays a "nice tshirt" for about 4 years (catastrophe not withstanding), then it becomes a less nice tshirt, then a round the house/farm shirt, then a sleep shirt, and finally a rag. Start to finish takes more than 10 years. He loves them and they hold up well.

LL Bean ultralight 850 down sweater hoodie. Patagonia down sweater vest. Shell is LL Bean Mountain Classic, which isn’t really water resistant, but does a good job with wind. I have the Patagonia Houdini that comes in handy over the down sweater for wind. For water resistance, I’d go with a next gen Goretex. I have a cheapie Mountain Warehouse raincoat that I’ll if I need to. The Bean ultralight down sweater can almost stand alone, provided it’s not raining. I think that just about every time I’ve put another layer on top of it, I end up having to unzip something and dump some heat, even down into the 20s.

Where do you buy hotel-quality bed sheets and pillows without spending a fortune? I want my bed to feel like a Marriott stay.
>Where do normal people actually buy hotel-level sheets and pillows without spending like $500? They don't. They can't. They don't exist. I don't know why, but there's this weird idea on reddit that you ought to be able to get something *just as good as $500 sheets* (or whatever) for like $100. You can't. Like a lot of commenters, I have the LL Bean percale sheets. They are excellent and probably what you should get. But they aren't the Marriot sheets. They aren't nearly as thick, for one thing. But think about it - hotel sheets need to be durable enough to be washed in commercial laundry machines *every day*. At pretty high heat and with pretty strong detergents. Regular people don't wash their sheets nearly that often, and most washing instructions want cold or warm water (not hot), plus tumble dry low.

Wirecutter -- The NY Times product review guide -- recommends LL Bean (280 count pima cotton percale) and Brooklinen (classic percale core) sheets. I have bought both and like both. I have not experienced them wearing down faster than other sheets I own, as some commenters have noted. I have had my LL Bean sheets for more than 10 years, Brooklinen for less. LL Bean only occasionally has sales. Brooklinen runs discounts more frequently. In both cases you can find sheet sets for under $200 (less if you are buying smaller than king size).

I have a lowly LLBean leather bag that's going on 20 years. It has a drawstring inner closure at the top with a flap over the whole bag that clips with a brass latch closure, and a lower zipped pocket. I've had the fabric lining replaced once, but otherwise, it's in great shape.

LLbean boat and tote
A true BIFL Allstar! Great as wedding or birth gifts, especially with a monogram. Mine is 28 years old, and has been used to haul diapers, toys, fireplace wood, beach gear, weekend trip stuff, tools, lawn bowling kit, sports gear, and a million other things.

LLbean boat and tote
I've gotten several over the last few years and they are all still very good. It's not that complicated really. It's just thick canvas, sewn by a human being in the USA with reinforced handles. It's more expensive than a 5 dollar canvas bag from trader joes, or something but it just works

Childrens School Backpack
I don’t know how the quality is now, but I will say I am 31 and still have my LL Bean backpack my parents got me when I was in 12th grade. I will say, my mom initially got us all LL Beans in elementary school, and I *tried* to tear that thing up because I wanted a new, fun backpack every year (or at least every couple years) because when you’re a kid your likes and interests change a *lot.* There was also pressure in middle school/high school to have “cute” bags and I wanted to fit in. My mom realized this and allowed me to get the cheap backpack/bag every few years until I was ready to settle down with a long lasting one. Never did manage to rip/break the one from elementary school, and my mom used it for a LONG time (might even still have it?). So, if their quality is still the same and you’re confident your kids will be happy with the same backpack through all their years, LL Bean!

Soft PJs that do not cost an arm and a leg
Buy it for life clothes don't really exist. I would recommend stuff made from natural fibers like bamboo or cotton, and don't run them through the dryer and they will last longer. LL Bean has some good long lasting pajamas and my wife is really fond of Cuddle duds which are Viscose(bamboo) and if you hang them to dry they can last a while.

Funny because I have an LL Bean boat tote that my mom got with my initials on it when we were super little. Still have it 25 years later! Just needs a proper clean My mom also gave me a mason Pearson brush about 5 years ago. Love it and expect to have it for life! A high school classmate (well, their mother) gave me a silver engraved jewelry box for graduation. I still use it for all my earrings almost 15 years later!

I bought a set of LL Bean percale in April of 2022. Specifically, **Pima Percale 280TC** **Sheet** **Set Print Queen**. They start out rough but you kinda want that from good sheets. After a few wash cycles they enter into the ideal soft breathable sheets that you want. Can't recommend enough.

This colors perfect! When it comes to pouches and travel accessories, I actually like them to be non-black and non-light colors because black can get lost in bags/suitcases/under furniture/in drawers and light is easily stained. This color is eye-catching enough that you won’t lose it or leave it somewhere and dark enough that it doesn’t hold stains badly. It’s also still fairly neutral as a soft blue. I think you made a great choice.

Looking for durable orthopedic dog bed
A few months ago, I was also pondering this question! We have two large dogs and I was sick of buying $100 dog beds that were poorly constructed and having to throw them away after less than a year. I ended up buying two LL Premium Thereupetic dog beds from LL Bean. Granted I haven't had them for a long time, but the covers wash beautifully. Not waterproof, so I put puppy pads under the top in case of any accidents. LL Bean also sells replacement covers and foam. I have a brace of LL Bean tote bags and I think one of them is old enough to run for President (and would do a better job). I also have a Creset pot like the one pictured that is 30 years old. Most of the picks are great. Nail clippers get dull and need replacing, I don't care what they say. Sofas are not BIFL. Also, if you get a comforter, make sure you are not allergic to down. I made the mistake of getting one and could not understand why I was coughing at night all winter (I kept replacing furnace filters). Once I got rid of the comforter, life was better.

I just usually come here and see what the subreddit's opinion is. It's why I got an Osprey backpack. If it has a great warranty I'm sold. Patagonia and LL Bean are other great examples. LL Bean did away with their Lifetime Warranty in 2018, switching it to 1 year, but if there is something defective they will still replace it after 1 year, so they realllllly didn't change it much. Before it was like Patagonia warranty-ing wear and tear, and now it isn't, which is okay with me because LL Bean is cheaper.

Best winter jackets or just warm jackets in general under 100 dollars?
It depends n so many factors- how cold? cold only or cold and wet? are you just shuttling from house and store to car or walking three miles in the wind? For just basic inexpensive warmth without wind or water blocking, Uniqlo down is good, they have short and long versions, it’s also winter coat sale time, so Patagonia, LLBean, and Columbia should have good deals.

I walk about around 14k steps a day. Carrying things and standing I've been wearing LL Bean Snow sneakers. They are basically boots. I have to go in and out all day so changing shoes constantly is a pain. This is my second pair in 15 years. I will probably get a new pair for next winter. I prefer the hook and loop ones because I hate dealing with wet laces.

Half the Patagonia stuff I own is 2nd hand, usually found for 50% of the original price or less. I only buy clothing in very good (or in exceptional cases, repairable to like-new) condition and so far nothing has let me down. I have a few LLBean items 2nd hand, only older stuff as quality has dropped off in recent years, not very common where I am in the UK though. Watches, most well known Japanese brands are pretty BIFL, plenty of older models to be found in markets and 2nd hand shops, people tend to leave them in a drawer and forget about them.

Warmest socks recs!!
Wool socks (darn tough are popular, but I love my bombas) plus slippers is what you need inside. I have had a pair of LLBean wicked good slippers for 5 years that I love and that keep my feet warm. If you’re sitting a lot, make sure to get up and move around every hour to get your blood flowing, as that will make the biggest difference. I get up and do 10 squats every hour or so. If you’re spending a lot of time outdoors, you need good wool socks plus good insulated boots. Socks won’t make a huge difference if you’re wearing the wrong footwear for the weather.

I'm looking for a warm winter coat that is not bulky
Get a down puffer jacket. I got a Baxter state ll bean parka this year for 100$ on eBay and it’s stupidly warm. The only thing it’s good for is standing still outside when it’s like 20 degrees F. Great if I’m watching my daughters ski lessons, but if I start moving at all I’m sweating, and it’s too bulky to do anything active anyway. I actually use the down insulated inner part of my Patagonia 2 in 1 ski jacket way more often. Super light and way warmer than I expected it to be.

What is the best quality clothing brand you know of?
I have several items from LL Bean that have been with me 20+ years. Flannel lined jacket/shirt, fleece, wicked good slippers.

My LL Bean Baxter State Parka is phenomenal on absolutely frigid days. Highly recommend! 🔥🔥🔥

[Request] Want to buy a soft *oversized* fleece blanket for my bed, but I'm overwhelmed with low-quality Amazon options. Any recs on something that will last and not shed like crazy?
I have "sherpa fleece" throws from L.L. Bean. They're very durable, but the fluffier side needs to be dried on very low heat to stay soft. It looks like the [Wicked Cozy Blanket](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/89234) is the bed-sized version that has the easier care layer on both sides. We've bought three of the throws over the span of a decade and they don't shed.

If itchy is your issue, it’s woven incredibly tight and it’s super soft to the touch. I’m not sure much outside of the “unhide” marshmallow blanket. Also LL. Bean has the “wicked cozy blanket”. Hope that helps

The difference between generations…
My absolute favorite robe is one of my grandfather’s. It’s an LLBean flannel with his name embroidered on it.

Which women’s clothing brands do you stalk for sales? (20-30 age style)
Salvatore Ferragamo, Eileen Fisher, Frye, Dr. Martens, Cole Haan, Nisolo, Vintage coach, and LL Bean, but I stall not only sales but also stalk second hand sites. For these brands, especially vintage, I find that these are quality.

Camping suggestions?
I'm not sure how much camping stuff is truly Buy It For Life, because even with love and care of your equipment there is wear and tear that will break down the materials over time. For clothing, you could shop at a store that has a lifetime warranty on their products, such as LL Bean or Patagonia. You'll see a lot of info here on BIFL about Darn Tough socks. Try a military surplus store to check out their packs and camping sections. They often sell very heavy duty equipment. What temperatures do you plan to camp? How many people will be sleeping in the tent?

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
I seem to be the dissenting opinion here and say that ugg boots are overpriced and you're paying for the name. That said I am a guy with a 15 wide foot and ugg was the only company I could find that had something in my size. I do think I overpayed for them but I don't have heat in my house and I bought them through Nordstroms so I could have the warranty. I think the Costco Boots are amazing with warranty and construction [here](http://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature%E2%84%A2-Ladies%E2%80%99-Shearling-Buckle-Boot-Chestnut.product.100155402.html). LL BEAN also makes excellent winter boots with unlimited warranty and I've heard good things about [minnetonka boots](https://www.minnetonkamoccasin.com/short-pug-boot-women/)

[BIFL Request] Men's slippers
LLBean's Wicked Good line is popular and their warranty makes them BIFL. These are kinda close to the style you want: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/88422?feat=506762-GN3&page=men-s-wicked-good-slippers-venetian

Alternates to LL Bean duck boots?
For what it's worth, when I ordered mine they were supposedly back ordered for a few months but shipped way sooner...I think within a week or two of when I ordered them. I would say that they're worth waiting for either way.

Alternates to LL Bean duck boots?
Beautiful boots. Really, even if not made in the US anymore. I miss mine. I console myself with my redwings.

Luggage for a poor college student.
if you're going to go with a rolling duffle, make sure it is capable of standing upright on its own. i have an LLBean rolling adventure duffle, and it would be perfect if it could stand up without support.

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
Bean boots from LL Bean. They are warmer and I bet she might even think they are cuter! They're super in right now. Ask her what she thinks.

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
Uggs last decently well: just make sure to get a good model. That said, many people find them uncomfortable and lacking in traction.. LLBean shearling boots are probably a better value, and I've heard good things about Emu boots. Ask her if she's open to other types of boots though before going that route. If she's interested in something sleeker but just wants to make sure it's warm and comfortable, look into La Canadienne. They're amazing: waterproof, keep feet comfortable and warm (but never too warm, somehow), and tend to look nice and sleek. They aren't cheap though.

Agreed--plus the Bean boots are super trendy now, so if that matters to her, they could be a good alternative.

Chippewa has a great value to quality ratio. If you buy the LL Bean engineer boot (made by Chippewa in the US) you get Bean's lifetime warranty as well.

Rain boots?
Maybe try something from Hunter? I have a pair of rain chukka boots, not actual 12 inch rain boots or wellingtons but they're all made of a quality rubber. and I've had mine for over 3 years with no complaints. Also I have had 8" Bean Boots from L.L. Bean and can vouch for their quality as well. Also, if anything fails on the bean boots you can just go to a store and exchange them for a new pair.

0 degree sleeping bag
I would take another approach, but new but from someplace like LL Bean, for basically a lifetime subscription to sleeping bags.

Young professional purchases
Focus on what suits *your* needs, rather than on the idea of what a young professional needs. Like, people could declare a certain coffee maker a kitchen essential, but if you don't drink coffee, there's no point in getting it. For the less fashion sensitive articles of clothing, LLBean has fantastic quality, and Lands End is also pretty good. If you lose your water bottle, BIFL status is less important than usability, although if you like the mouth of Nalgene, then obviously keep using it. I favor Contigo and Camelback because they encourage me to drink more water than I would with a Nalgene, even though they are inherently less durable. I have an STM backpack with a well padded laptop compartment that I love. It's held up better than any other backpack I've had. It's also quite comfortable. Watches usually last pretty well. The weak points are thin plating and canvas or leather straps (which are also more comfortable, imo, so I put up with them). I'd make sure to get something I won't be sick of in 10 years, because unless you get a really crummy one, you'll probably still have it. That might be one of the more important BIFL aspects with watches, really. Briefcase: Depends on your job. You want it to fit the environment. You might be interested in a fountain pen. It won't save you money, but it will mean you'll have the one nice pen instead of a bunch of cheaper ones. For a discrete pen, I like the Hero 616, which is modeled after the Parker 51. The standard pen recommendation is the Lamy Safari. I always use Noodlers Black ink, because it's impossible to remove from paper, which makes it great for signatures, but some people prefer washable ink to avoid clothing mishaps.

KONG Pillow dog beds- Outside all year long in 100+ and below 0 temps, still tough as hell and the dog still sleeps on it.
We use the LL Bean bolster beds. Their only week spot is the seems pop open but LL Bean replaces them no questions asked. I finally got tired of getting replacement so I had an automative upholstery place sew the seems with heavy duty nylon threading and the bed has been holding up.

Who has LL Bean duck boots?
They sell them in many varieties and linings. Anything from 6 in to 18 in I believe. The linings also come in unlined, thinsullate, thinsullate+goretex, and Sherpa. My first pair were the basic 6in unlined one, they were durable but sucked for when it was below freezing or deep snow. I got a pair of the thinsulate+goretex models this winter and they are so much better. With thin socks, my feet are dry and warm. You might have trouble finding them, since they are hand made and on back order to the spring at least. Also size down even with insulated models. I normally wear a 12 and had to go to a 11, and could have probably went to a 10 1/2
